Where Did All This SEC Comparison Junk Start? ----

Your team does well, but can it do it in the SEC?
You're or he is a good player, but can you or he do it at the SEC level? {What exactly is the SEC level?}
Your team had a tough schedule, but ya'll don't play an SEC schedule.
I thought football was football, everybody has a chance to beat everybody. Even when it looks like a team has no chance...{Ask App. State, James Madison and Ga Southern}
Lets just get back to playing ball!!!!!!!

It started when ESPN paid close to a billion dollars for the TV rights. They are the talking heads of the world and they are going to protect their product. That's why its them vs the rest of college football. They must go down!!!!

In 1992 when the chicken joined the SEC. They don't have any winning tradition and they were losing to us so they adopted the mantle of their brethren (and still do today) to claim some type of superiority over Clemson and made us wear the inferior ACC one.

Well it started as a dare, which turned in to a circle jerk. It is now full scale in breeding. Sad thing is the elite teams don't claim the non elite teams...they just say "sec", and people nod and reply "sec". Then they get a room.

Uhhh.,,,,,when they won 7 straight nc and routinely place the most players in the NFL. Maybe there. That being said, the ACC is on the move. Maybe in a couple of years, who knows.

The SEC is a very strong football league. At the very top, they have always been strong.
But.....FSU over Fl, Miami over Fl, CU over UGa, Louisville over Ky, Georgia Southern over Fl, FSU over Aub, and OK over Bama from last year suggest the league is not infallible.
I'm glad we have wins over Auburn, LSU and Georgia recently. Now, if we can just beat Coach Spurrier's team.

A lot of this started when the have-nots started using their failures in the league as a crutch. It is still a mantra ...they say no excuses but make them ad nauseum. The SEC usually has 4 good teams , maybe 2 elites every year . Are they the greatest thing in college football year in and year out ? Hardly . But they have had a few of the best teams in college football over the last decade , in their midst.

Didn't know a conference wins a national title.
I seem to remember it was just 4 teams that won it, which was 1/3 or now 2/7 of the whole collection.
Also, they put a lot of players in on draft day, but that doesn't mean they all stick.

Take a look at the NFL, a lot of those $EC players disappear

in the NFL. Just look at most of the elite to good players in the NFL, a large number of those players didn't come from the $EC. But, don't tell that to an $EC fan, since almost all of them never watch the NFL.

Nationally, it started the year UF won the title that started the MNC streak. Michigan and Ohio State was 1 and 2 all year. ESPN was selling them as two of the greatest teams of all time. The story was that whoever lost that game should get the rematch in the MNC because those two were clearly head and shoulders above every other team. The were calling their rivalry game that year the biggest game ever. Then UF smashed the party and whooped OSU. ESPN needed a new story and went with the SEC was so tough they made each other look bad and OSU and UM only looked so good because the other conferences were inferior.

That has some merit. The sports media always had their darlings (OH ST, ND, USCw, and some others); but many were in different conferences. Add the SEC contract and it was an easy switch.

It is too bad that Oklahoma State was not allowed to show

the same thing about the sec when they should have been in the title game instead of bama. OSU would have killed either team that year and the streak would have ended then

Clemson ended the UT run and mystique in that pantsing we gave them in the 2003 Chick Fil A bowl. They haven't done anything since or been any good. Except crushing the hopes of the Cootlusional Ones last year . That was pretty awesome.

My favorite SEC has-been or never-was excuse is the tried and played-out ; " Our team lost because of the schedule being so hard on ...a week in week out basis in the SEC . Its just so hard on ....us all. " That one makes my eyes roll back in my head so far I can see if my shirt tail is still tucked in .

It started when TV/ESPN took control of college football.
Jul 23, 2014, 11:07 PM

TV Entertainment has to have icons that people love (or hate) so they can talk about them to no end and get every body in a frenzy discussing how much they love them (or hate them). As long as people are tuning in to see what's going on with their favorite (or most hated) team/conference/forward/golfer/pitcher/etc... they're happy ('cause they're richer.)
Once the SEC is played out they'll just move on to another group.

When they started stacking NC on top of
Jul 23, 2014, 11:10 PM

NC on top of bowl victories and top draft picks and multiple NC in nearly every sport offered. Oh, that and ooc victories over top competition and fans watching their events in greater numbers than any otter conference and tv ratings for their events that eclipse otter conferences, which lead to more televised events and more $$ and more top coaches and, and ...... There is a reason that most of us got our hopes up when the sec expanded to 14. We like to complain about the attention, etc that the sec gets. But even though our path to conference championships in almost every sport is easier in the acc, I would love to be a member of the sec. Truth is, so would most of you.

70% of the SEC has nothing to do with those 7 national titles in a row.
If ESPN wants to pump Alabama all day I have no problem with that.
Florida just lost to an FCS team for gods sake.

What ESPN fails to mention is that the SEC’s status as the best football conference was earned by six members---Bama, LSU, Auburn, UF, UGA & UT. All the others are just freeloaders who are essentially sacrificial lambs for those six to feed on.
If you don’t believe this, just consider this stat: Only one team, UK in 1976, outside of the six teams mentioned above has won the SEC in the last 50 years. The year UK won it they were co-champions along with UGA.

Take Uga out of that , aside from whipping the Coots mercilessly for over 20 years they have been relatively mediocre most recently.
