When will ACC look at division realignment?

Change it up! We should be playing on a fairly regular basis, besides FSU and NCST every year, UNCheat, VT, and Miami.

The SEC needs it too. The coots seldom have to play Alabama, LSU, and Auburn.

Spurrier cried like a baby that just had his bottle taken from him to get those 3 taken off the coot schedule. We play Bama and Aubarn more than they do, and that is the truth!!!

Agree with UNC and Miami but not VT so much. We have a longer playing history with UVA of the two. If they went geographical then those two (UVA,VT) would go to a north division anyway.

If you're going to talk about realignment, for all that is holy, please RENAME the divisions. Whoever is responsible for naming them Atlantic/Coastal should be banned from any meetings regarding renaming them.
Also, my preference is North/South. The difference I would prefer is that ALL teams rotate such that you no longer must play all your division teams. You would essentially play several different teams every year. Of course this might destroy known rivalries, and the in-state rivalries must never be tampered with. Some teams seem to not have a rivalry in football. Who are the rivals for Duke, Wake, SU, BC, Pitt, or GT? Maybe we have to assign them a rival since they don't have one. Nobody cares about ND, so ignore them.
You would win your division based on conference wins. Teams that complain that they have to play CLEMSON each year would no longer have a gripe. Also, ACC teams could possibly have to play MORE conference opponents instead of the extra OOC teams (you know, since the ACC just means MORE).
The only problem I see is when we have to play Virgina. I hear they are a powerhouse and absolutely curb-stomp SECondplace teams.

Couldn't disagree more are far as the names go. I think its more original than boring ### north/south east /west bs. But realignment will come soon enough, ND will join and we'll add one more. Leave it be for now, all is well.

We used to play teams from the other division once a year and the teams in our own division twice. That all went out the window when they added the last two teams and ND to the conference and I don't think the conference recognizes divisional alignments in basketball any longer.

I'd like to see us add a 15th team and scrap the divisions all together. Then play an 8 game schedule of 3 permanent rivals & 5 others on a home & home rotation. The two teams with the best conference records then play in the ACCCG. This way you play all your conference members at least twice every four years & the two best teams play for the conference championship every year. Other conferences could do the same thing.

Problem here is either Clemson would have to
Apr 29, 2019, 8:34 PM

Play all ACC which is no good for SOS - hence us currently playing and scheduling big names out of other P5 - or Clemson would have to give up a home game every year to do a home and away with quality opponent. Prefer 8 game schedule with good OC teams in there but with Clemson playing more regional teams like UNC or VT frequently then traveling to NY and Boston every other year.

No good solution comes to mind.

There is no good solution to realignment.
If you aligned the divisions by North and South,the South would have Miami, FSU, GT and Clemson, which are the four ACC teams to last win a Natty. The North would have only Pitt with a Natty in the 70s. Plus, any North South realignment would take one of the four North Carolina Schools for the North and whomever they chose (Wake or Duke) would not want to go.
The Big 12 solution, no divisions but a Championship game anyway could easily mean Clemson could beat FSU in the regular season, then have to play them again in the conference championship. That sucks.
Lacking a good solution, the league should do nothing until it expands again. When Notre Dame and UCF join the ACC, then the league should tackle realignment.

Pitt isn’t the only school in this proposed “North” division with a national championship. Syracuse finished #1 in both the AP and Coaches Polls in 1959.

To avoid that you could play something like the following with FSU, GT & Wake being our permanent 3 teams and rotating among 2 groups of 5:
2019
FSU @ GT Wake @Miami Syracuse @NC St Louisville @Pitt
2020
@FSU GT @Wake Miami @Syracuse NC St @Louisville Pitt
2021
FSU @GT Wake @VT Duke @UNC UVA @BC
2022
@FSU GT @Wake VT @Duke UNC @UVA BC

be a Championship game, the conference must have divisions. Personally, I like the idea of scrapping the divisions and just letting the top 2 teams play. Would definitely make for better Championship games across all the Conferences.

Is that true anymore? The Big 12 doesn't have divisions and started back their championship game last year between the two teams with the best record.

Eliminating that game would add at least one topping on the pizza. It could have saved Paul Johnson his job as well.

Following a NCAA rule change in 2015 which allows conferences with fewer than 12 members to hold a championship game, the Big 12 elected to return to a postseason championship game to determine the conference champion. Following the completion of the round-robin regular season, the conference's top two teams compete in the championship game

a "pods" system or something of that nature. That allows you to play everyone at least once every few years I think and also maintains a couple of rivals for every team that they face annually.
