XL would have brought oil from Canada to US refineries. It wouldn't have been complete for another 3 years or so and it would have accounted for about 5% of our total usage. Keep in mind that isn't new oil on the market, i.e, it wouldn't have been more supply, only less expensive supply. Also, crude oil prices did jump in March, but have dropped a bit since. The current jump in price at the pump has not been matched by the prices of crude.
There is no way that XL would have touched gas prices right now.

I was not even concerned with the pipeline but did not realize he would quit with the permits for private companies to drill. Just ### backwards like everything else is in this country.
Dems in Oregon just passed a law about providing tampons in the men’s restrooms. Anybody on this site know of a male that has asked about not having tampons in the bathroom?

Well, the XL Pipeline would be half way finished by now and the completed sections could be delivering oil to northern refineries. FYI, you don't have to wait until it's fully completed to use it. Just typical Liberal idealology seen over the last 16 months of very little or no planning, no contingencies and no results.

Could Biden do things differently and make things marginally better? Perhaps. But he is no more responsible for inflation and Putin's war than Trump was for 500k extra deaths in 10 months, riots in our cities and an attempted insurrection.
We give presidents far too much credit and far too much blame and make very poor decisions in the process.

Yes, he could I agree about them getting much credit and blame, but he is responsible for a large portion of the hike in gas prices. We were energy independent in 2019, but are producing 2 million barrels/day less now. It started with pandemic, so some shut down due to the lack of demand during 2020. Now the demand is back up, but the red tape is now in place deterring those riggs from being reopened. President says he has not done anything, in some sense he is right. He has not done anything to help re-open the drilling. He is all about climate change and if we have to pay $5/gallon he is okay with that.

You are delusional. You buy from overseas or you produce it here. Not complicated. Folks like you are the reason we are where we are. You do not have a clue. He undone everything that Trump was doing on producing petro in the US. You can hate him, hate me I could care less but to say a president can’t change things with policy changes is asinine. Country is a mess and financial gurus are stating it will get worse. Jimmy Carter part II.

The average price of gas was $2.39 a gallon when Trump left office and the average price of gas today hit $4.56 a gallon. These are the facts, and they are not in dispute, Surveyingtiger. And while the president doesn't directly affect the price of oil. the people he appoints to office can affect the price by denying leases etc.!

I hope the liberal lefttards who elected this incompetent buffoon and his Jezebel VP are happy as the country continues to spiral downward like a weak flushing toilet. Of course, this has nothing to do with failed policies and a clear lack of genuine leadership. It's all really Trump and Putin's fault (rolling eyes).

The minute that Abbott plant was shut down back in February, the Fed should have enacted a plan to account for the shortages that would most assuredly be forthcoming particularly in light of the supply chain issue resulting from the pandemic that exacerbated the problem as consumers stockpiled products. Yet, the Fed is JUSTY NOW beginning to react which is a clear and ever present shortcoming of the Biden administration.

At some point all the liberals out there have to realize there was a reason Biden’s campaign was on deaths doorstep before he ended up winning the primary in SC. (Which is funny) Because the guy is a joke, his polices are a joke, his criteria for appointing people to positions and office are a joke, the whole #### administration is a joke. But at least he’s close enough to Delaware to chopper back and forth to get his favorite ice cream on the weekends.

But did you see what that reaction was? Millions of dollars to hire more people in the FDA to do more inspections of foreign manufacturing plants that make baby formula. The FDA has never done anything to streamline food production and this is just another way for the democrats to make government even bigger and more restrictive on food manufacturers. I was in the food manufacturing industry for over 35 years. The FDA NEVER made anything easier.

May 18, 2022, 2:13 PM
|

That's also down today by about 2.5% so hopefully it'll translate into relief at the pump soon.
Being energy independent doesn't make gas cheaper unless you think US oil companies want to sell their oil cheaper to Americans than they can sell it on the global market. Main reason gas is cheaper here than it is in Europe is much lower taxes.

I don't think it's necessarily Biden. The party's platform has embraced this idea for some time. Right or wrong it's what they have touted. When Presidential CANDIDATE Obama said, “Under my plan, energy costs will necessarily skyrocket…” that's the party's stance. When a candidate running for office promises energy costs will go up, you should believe them. When Joe Biden promises to make fossil fuels disappear you should believe him. Vote any way you want but don't act like this is something that just happened.
