Any heating and air guys around here?

So I’m having a problem with my AC blower fan. It barely turns so it’s obviously not blowing air in the house. This started yesterday afternoon. I pulled the side panel off so I can see it’s not working properly. I checked the capacitor with my multimeter and according to everything I read and learned it should be fine. We had a relay switch replaced on it last year so it should be fine. If I knew 100% the fan motor was bad I’d replace that. Any ideas?

I am not expert, but mine stopped working and was just fixed. 2k later and it was the compressor.

~$15 for a capacitor... Try that first. Just went through that exact scenario.

Yeah right, the AC guy when they first came out on Monday said my capacitor was bad. they change it out and found that the compressor took a dump when the capacitor went out, and they were going to charge us $610 for coming out and putting a new capacitor. I told that every dime that I had was $400 and his boss told him to do it for $395, but that was before they learned that the compressor went out also bc his test gauges wouldn't pick up any compressor pressure once he changed the capacitor...

But because it was never reaching the cooler temp the fan act like it was “tired” and barely run. After I kept having to add Freon I eventually got a new one.

My total bill for the new unit they put in was $12,420.00 bucks. But I got a 10 year parts, 10 year labor free for 10 years, and a 5 year replacement plan if something drastic was to happen to it they will put another brand new unit ...

Just got a new unit myself. I got a 2 quotes ,both between 10k and 12k. Luckily I knew a guy that did some ac work on the side. I got everything done for $5,090. That included parts and labor. I also got a 10 year warranty on everything.

Most times it is the start capacitor, is the compressor kicking on? If not, manually push in the contactor near the outside unit. If everything comes on, it is the capacitor. They are hard to read reliably while in circuit

What should a blower motor cost, and are they readily available?

A few things to check before you call the guy:

Turn power off, take the belt off and turn the fan by hand. If it's hard to turn, your bearings need to be lubed. If it turns freely, feel the motor to see if it is free.
Apply voltage to the motor and see if it runs ok by itself. If it doesn't start, manually spin it and see if it takes off. If it does, its the capacitor, if not, a little more serious, call the guy.

You maybe a 100% right, but I've never heard of a blower motor needing a capacitor to start that motor bc it's only a 110 volt motor, and I don't know why it would need a capacitor to start it up bc that is what capacitors do, they give an extra voltage kick to start things like a compressor or big motor that need that extra voltage just to start it up... Like I said, You could be 100% right, I've just never heard of the need for a capacitor for starting up a blower motor...

I have worked on a bunch of AC's, but all of them have been automotive AC...

Oh yes they can put a new blower motor in, but they will charge you an arm and foot for it. Truth, the motor most likely cost them $50-60 bucks, but my unit before the one that just took a dump had the blower motor to go out, and they were going to charge me over $500 bucks for. But that unit was over 10 years old, so I decided to buy a new unit, the one that just went out, and that was 14 years ago that the fan motor was going to cost me over $500 bucks...

Yea. The coils freeze up and the outside fan turns on but it’s just the blower fan. Ace carries capacitors but they only go up to a 55/something and I need a 70/10.

Ours went out one time. The fan cut on for a few seconds then cut off, did that some then quit completely. HVAC guy has to purchase and replace.

Good luck

Is it newer ECM style motor or standard voltage with run capacitor. When ECM modules go bad blower wheel will rock back and forward or not start at all. Other type motors run slow or cycle off on internal thermal overload when run capacitors are low (mfd) or shorted. Many Rheem fan relays have been replaced on their package heat/cool units if thats the brand you own. Just my 2 cents...

Them guys will charge you about $600 bucks for that fan. I just had a brand new unit put in on Friday, but those guys were supposed to be at my house Thursday morning. But when they called to tell me they wouldn't make it Thursday, they actually called to tell me that it would be Monday before they could come, I blew a gasket telling them that if they weren't at my house by 8am Friday morning that I would have someone else putting me a unit in on Saturday morning. I had already talked to the ones that I would've gotten on Saturday, but I chose the ones that that was supposed to be here on Thursday. They were at my house a little before 8am on Friday though.

My unit went out on Fathers day, by Friday I had way more of the heat than I wanted. My wife and I were talking about when were kids and didn't have AC and we didn't remember it ever feeling as hot as it was from last Sunday to Friday. There were a couple times I almost told the wife lets go get a motel room, but the thought of being away from everything that I enjoy at home made me deal with the heat.

Good luck with getting that fan fixed. The AC guys took my old unit off for me, but if they hadn't, I would've given you the blower motor of it!!!

If low on Freon, it will actually freeze up in hot weather. Get freon checked. Mine just started doing the same, I have guy coming by this week. Tell them to add a sealer, I forget the brand my guy told me to buy but he said there is only one type he believes in.

I also learned this week that those heating and air guys get a $100 bucks for a pound of Freon. That stuff has more than tripled since the last time I had to add Freon in an automotive AC unit...

Our government love making laws that works against the citizens of our country, but they never make a law against retailers maxing out retail prices whenever a manufacture goes up 10cent on their prices, the retailer will jack their prices up another 300 to 400% on the consumer, and a lot of them will raise their retail prices even more than 400%!!! That is where our government should be making laws that work for the consumer!!!

R22? They quit making that probably 5yrs ago. Most of what is available is sucked put of old systems and resold. If its 410a then they are changing too much

Fan motor or blower motor. If it’s X13 blower motor, the module goes bad and won’t spin up to proper rpm. Considered an easy fix. They are ecm motor so no related or capacitors to deal with.

If you have 240 to the motor and it’s not turning correct rpms it needs to be replaced. At least the module

If it's not the capacitor, my guess would bevl the motor. I'm not sure what the power receptacle plug for your motor looks like but I had two go bad due to humidity in the unit. I bought a motor with the same plug receptacle and replaced it and had the other one fixed for a spare.
