I watched last year’s FL State game again last night

and I didn’t see anything wrong with Streeter’s play calling. It was unpredictable when needed and steady when needed. Even DJ executed most of the time and ended the game with some good stats passing and running. Shipley was on fire in all phases. I guess when the players execute the coordinator looks great. I wish the coot game had gone like that. Our defense sure was spotty at times and let the Nokes back in the game. Seemed like it was a dominating win and all of a sudden we’re recovering an onside kick to preserve the win. I’d forgotten how it all ended.

Yeah I rewatched it the other day and was reminded how close so many of our wins were last season. Could have easily ended up with five losses.

They were having way too much fun on the sidelines way too early.

DW - exactly right! The psychology of sports is something else. How to you get a collection of different personalities to all cooperate and think mostly alike? Get all of them focused at the same time.
And, as it pertains to celebrating too early, get them not to lose focus too early as a group. Some players kept their intensity; others acted like the game was over. And, often, if an opponent just gives in, that's okay. But, many kids don't understand the concept of "never giving in and never surrendering"! You have to beat certain opponents to the point the fight leaves them; which is why often I start cringing if we go up 21 points. 21 points is nothing in a football game; if one side has lost its dominant instinct suddenly. Suddenly that team has to find it's "just survive instinct" because sometimes you can't get that laser-focused dominate instinct in the middle of the game after having "let up"!

DJ’s poor play kept FSU in the game.

None of us really knows what was going on with the devotion that our coaching staff showed to This QB.
It’s time to move on and show our total support for the team that takes the field on Labor Day.
We can’t relive 2022 but we certainly can get behind the new kid and his teammates.
See you in Durham. Nothing like having 20000 fans at that game. We can do it.

Maybe but that was one of DJ's best games last year

that was the best he could do. I was thinking, maybe he can build from this game. He regressed after that. The Coot game was pathetic and we could have still won if we could have drive to their 40 at the end of the game and Potter gets the game winner. The ACCCG were just pitiful.
He might should explore the baseball route.

When FSU ran that stupid fake punt...

... I got a phone call from my FSU buddy and he asked me what was Norvell thinking.
I responded -
1. It was an act of desperation. He sees Clemson totally dominating and was throwing a Hail Mary in a desperate attempt to change the momentum.
2. I fully expect Clemson to win by 30+ now.
I'd have to watch it again, but I still don't know what happened to Clemson the rest of that game. I don't think it was anything FSU did. I think the change was on Clemson's side of the LOS (O and D). I just have no idea what.

Clemson took their foot off the gas in the 4th is what happened. They went into clock management mode, only cared about running out clock.
If you go back and look at the play by play in the game, the first drive Clemson got in the 4th after FSU finally scored, they literally ran the ball every single down (unless it was a sack, a penalty, or a time out).
(9:22 - 4th) Ryan Fitzgerald kickoff for 65 yds for a touchback 1st & 10 at CLEMSON 25 (9:15 - 4th) DJ Uiagalelei RUN for 4 yds to the Clem 29 2nd & 6 at CLEMSON 29 (8:31 - 4th) DJ Uiagalelei RUN for 2 yds to the Clem 31 3rd & 4 at CLEMSON 31 (7:51 - 4th) Will Shipley RUN for 9 yds to the Clem 40 for a 1ST down 1st & 10 at CLEMSON 40 (7:07 - 4th) Will Shipley RUN for 11 yds to the FlaSt 49 for a 1ST down 1st & 10 at FLORIDAST 49 (6:24 - 4th) Will Shipley RUN for 3 yds to the FlaSt 46 2nd & 7 at FLORIDAST 46 (5:37 - 4th) Will Shipley RUN for 5 yds to the FlaSt 41 3rd & 2 at FLORIDAST 41 (4:54 - 4th) Will Shipley RUN for 4 yds to the FlaSt 37 for a 1ST down 1st & 10 at FLORIDAST 37 (4:13 - 4th) Phil Mafah RUN for 2 yds to the FlaSt 35 (4:12 - 4th) Timeout FLORIDA ST, clock 04:12 2nd & 8 at FLORIDAST 35 (4:08 - 4th) DJ Uiagalelei sacked by Malcolm Ray for a loss of 5 yards to the FlaSt 40 (4:07 - 4th) Timeout FLORIDA ST, clock 04:07 3rd & 13 at FLORIDAST 40 (4:07 - 4th) CLEMSON Penalty, False Start (Blake Miller) to the FlaSt 45 3rd & 18 at FLORIDAST 45 (4:02 - 4th) DJ Uiagalelei RUN for 4 yds to the FlaSt 41 (4:01 - 4th) Timeout FLORIDA ST, clock 04:01 4th & 14 at FLORIDAST 41 (3:52 - 4th) Aidan Swanson punt for 35 yds, downed at the FlaSt 6

I was livid. A FSU fan who was sitting with me was amazed that I was yelling at my own team, but we went to sleep on both O and D. No killer instinct. That game is when I said we won’t make the playoffs and may not even win the ACC. It was the whole attitude of how they played with a lead. Way, way too conservative. Then fast forward to the orange bowl and voila. This is why the first 3 games this year will tell the tale. Watch them closely and see if we play with a killer instinct. No mercy, no let up, just bulldoze them. Period!

I do believe that Garrett has plenty of killer instinct, but Dabo is the boss, and he decides when we have scored enough to win the game, and it is Dabo that stripes our starters from the O and the D giving everybody a chance to play. and I see nothing wrong with letting guys get some snaps, but the game should be put away without question before that starts happening!!!

If I remember correctly that game was the beginning of the end for DJ last year. After that one he went back to his old self from the prior season.

Up to that point last year... we were playing like a playoff team. Offense wasnt elite but it was solid and steady. Then toward the end of the 3rd quarter, start of the 4th... it broke, and it was never the same the rest of the year. I cant explain it... but I knew it when I saw it.
