Whataburger update - Greenville edition

Went there with my daughter, as she wanted a milk shake.
It was kind of a late night run, so we decided to split a burger combo. Unfortunately, the drive thru line was long, slow, and they did not get the order right.
I'm chalking it up to everyone is still learning, but IMO, Steak N Shake's food is way better....My daughter did say the milkshake was decent.
Truthfully, I need to eat better anyway....maybe this will help me from going there.....lol

Mauldin opens Monday so that should take some of the traffic down. I'm waiting as there is going to be one of those things on every corner. Reminds me of when Jack-in-the Box came to town in the 90's and built locations all over. Now most of them are gone or converted to something else.

I believe the owner or CEO of whataburger is a Clemson alum, so maybe the spot Wendy had could become what’s burger on campus. My moms a Texan so she’s been willing for it.

Yes Ed Nelson is a Clemson alum took the CEO position about 5 years ago. Whataburger started in Corpus Christi, TX in 1950 and now has headquarters in San Antonio.

Whataburger was a great company but sold out to a chicago company bent on expansion even if the product suffers and it has.
The lines will shorten once the honeymoon is over.

All the other major restaurant chains in SC & NC..thru our delivering distributors..
And remember calling on a guy in Kannapolis or was it Concord NC who I assume was the founder and remember the office-warehouse was in a primitive small building.
This was in 1979-1983.
Best fast food chain is in Calif imho..called
Can't remember! LOL~

In-N-Out Burgers. We fly to CA to see our daughter, 1st place I hit in LBC. Agreed, by far best fast food I've ever had. Not a huge fan of fast food, but In-N-Out Burgers is a must.

i lived in houston in the 80's a year as a kid, i can tell you what they are now rolling out isn't the real whataburger just the name an logo. original locations looked like square buildings with sliding glass windows out front order and wait while you park or go inside, really good hamburgers lived up to its water/burger name juicy. the modern day building look like popeyes meets the jetsons

You are correct about that!!!! We lived in Houston for 20 years and this Whatabuger food is not even close to what it was back then. No comparison.

Back in the day, I owned my own company (paid all my expenses) and had to travel to Waco, TX to visit my largest account. I booked flts to stay over Sat night to fly out Sun AM. 2 blocks down from hotel I was in was a whataburger. Never heard of them. I walked down and ordered and sat inside to eat. One of the best burgers I've ever had. This was back during the Bush/Gore recount on hanging chads etc. Actually went back on Sun to get one to go on flt to Houston.

The location in Boiling Springs, SC opened recently. The drive thru was packed as you would expect from a grand opening.
It took a long time to get through the line, but they got the order right.
Overall the burger was good, but definitely not on the level of 5 Guys.

Thanks for the update. In my opinion we already have enough fast food burger restaurants. I am trying to go away from them and stick with local restaurants and support small business

18 No way. It's not like 5 Guys has to pay someone to clean out the grease trap. The bag from there is usually soaked in it. Ate there once and it was like 'would you like a burger and fries with your grease?'

I prefer the locally owned shops to the chain stores. There's a WAB about a mile from the house where I've eaten maybe four times since moving to Concord in 1986. Not a place I think of when hungry for a burger. May need to give it another try to see how it compares now.

Ok looked it up since I didn't catch the difference in names. There's also a different chain with the same name in Virginia. Will have to give the Texas version a try.

Their burger is piping hot, fresh, and the best fries....
If you are around the Inman area, or going to play there, give yourself a bit of time and try it!

The food is about as remarkable as an old banana.
I grew up going to Whataburger (Jalapeno burger with cheese).
Then one day in my mid-30s, it stopped being Whataburger and started being something else that wasn't nearly as good.

Ahh, the butter burger from Wisconsin is not bad. Ate there a couple times when Iived in IL but haven't gone out of my way to eat at the one around Greenville. I had a decent burger in Greenville at Bad Daddy's but that was pre-COVID. Don't know how they are now.
