My speculation is that GN told him to make the dance or pack your Shyatt and go home.

the NCAA tourney, probably Elite Eight, to even begin to justify keeping him around another year. And even then, I would make him prove he could make the Tourney again NEXT year, before any kind of contract extension would be discussed. He has too much negative past collapsing history to be swayed by one outlier on the positive side. Those outliers are what has kept him around this long. As entry into the Big Dance has gotten easier, due to more slots available, the quality of his coaching / teams has gotten just enough worse to avoid making it most years. Sorry, Judge, but I gotta call 'em like I see 'em.

The problem is that it cannot a year to year deal or we can forget recruiting. Why would a recruit want to come play for a coach that may pr not be here next year. Neff's big question is can he he get a better coach and that may be the reason he has not done anything. Face the facts, we have very little basketball history to entice a coach to come to Clemson.

Winning the ACC tournament and the NCAA tournament would definitely secure his job.
My question, if CBB were to be let go would Neff be able to make a hire that would be a step up? I wouldn't want him to hire a coach similar to Duke or UNC; those guys are only slightly better than average with teams full of 5 star players. Who you got that would have interest and be a step up?

And CBB is only slightly better than average and cannot recruit well enough to get a team full of 4* and 5*.

Sadly, I think if Brad took over one of those programs loaded with talent, Brad still would be mediocre, and those teams would be very average. I have lost confidence in his coaching ability. He’s done very little to instill confidence. Success to him seems to be very average performance.

“If they don’t want you in the tournament, they’re going to find a reason why.” tells me it’s been NCAA Tournament or bust all season. He’s putting it out there that even teams that should get in don’t, and he shouldn’t be held accountable for bad decisions made by the committee. Unfortunately, I don’t think he’s going to get many fans to rally around him and this cause.

Do you seriously think that Coach Brownell will be fired after a twenty season? Do you really think that way?
He will be given an extension.

I figure he is staying regardless but I am racked with guilt wondering if I am a horrible fan if I cheer for our Tigers to lose the remaining games in order to send him walking

I believe he will be back based on what this team has done so far this year. If we lose every game left this season he might get fired but I’m certainly hoping that doesn’t happen (losing the games - I really don’t have a strong opinion on Brownell either way).

Other- pulling out the Manila envelope with the damning 8x10 photos yet again.
He has a golden ticket, the J Edgar Hoover of coaches.
Joking, I like Brad. Despite the fact that success the rest of the season may get him a contract extension, which I don’t want, I want the team to win every game. I can’t pull against Clemson, despite being ready for change after 10 years.

Bare minimum -- Gotta Go to the Big Dance

I know we got off to a great start in ACC play but Tourney bid is and should be the bare minimum expectation this year. People can hee and haw that this ain't enough but I imagine that's the expectation relayed to BB for this season.
I'm hopeful we get back up on the horse and ride some momentum into the ACC Tourney by securing a top 4 seed. I'd love to see us make a run in the conference tourney by winning at least 1 game and win a game in the Big Dance.
But, yeah -- NCAA tournament bid gets at least 1 more year. PJ Hall as a SR and a seasoned team of youngsters could be pretty good next year no matter who is coaching.
