This was a dishonest statement by Swinney to deflect from what people are actually saying.
Very few Clemson fans expect that we should go undefeated every year, nor do we think the team is terrible or losers. Swinney frames it this way because he knows his recent hires and refusal to use the portal are legitimate criticism.

Well, some dummies now think Dabo should retire or move on because he lost to Duke and doesnt use the protal! Anyone that thinks Dabo should leave Clemson are bad fans and love to spew dumb comments!
There are those bandwagoners often showing their fair weather fandom. Most of those are likely not grads or so young they dont remember the bad days just 14+yrs ago when ########## was a nationally recognized word.

Yes, they are. I’ve posted links before when people throw down this gauntlet. They absolutely do - right here on this board. Venture over to twitter/X and it is dramatically worse. The arguments to fire Swinney are stupid. The player bashing is crazy. And I don’t think he was just talking about Clemson. It’s the state of CFB. NIL seems to have emboldened “fans” that they can just say whatever they want directly to whatever player.

I have been a fan since long before Ford won the First Natty. I endured the first slide down the mountain into the valley. I don't want to endure another one. I don't want to fire Dabo. I do think Dabo needs a dose of reality introduced to him. I agree with him on "portal built" teams. I disagree with him on failure to use portal to augment and fill holes in our team. The portal takes our players and we must use it to replace our players.
'Portal tampering" is the new norm. Dabo embraces it or gets left. The game changed. He must change with it.

We were eliminated from ACC contention and the CFP before week 4. All the big prizes for the season off the table when only 1/3 of the scheduled has been played. This is now a 3 season trend. This program is moving backwards, not forwards.
It stuns me that coach would say something so idiotic. I'm not sure what the hell has happened to conservatives, but there is almost a blanket inability to accept accountability for anything anymore. It's really stunning to me.

We won the ACC last year so being eliminated from that isn’t a trend.
We were in it for the CFP until losing to SCar by 1 point in the last game of the season. So being eliminated from that in the first 1/3 of the season is not a trend.
Now we are starting a new qb. Only 2 schools ahead of us in AP poll are starting a qb with equal experience to what Cade had coming into this year, none less.
Would you like to reframe your complaint so that it isn’t so easily disproven?

Is the team trending down since 2020? Emphatically a yes, and I don't think anyone can defend that. Heck, Sports Illustrated even pointed that out to the world.
Is it time to panic? Maybe not just yet, let's let the season play out.
If we lose 2 or 3 more games it's going to be really hard to point to the ACC championship game last year as proof we aren't sliding.

I remember during the past 3 or 4 seasons hearing Clemson fans saying that the ACC needs to get better and more competitive in football. The weak ACC was hurting Clemson. We’ll, guess what has happened. And now we don’t like it.
