I can't deny he has talent. But there are so many other more talented musicians & artists that simply never get the chance or break to bust through...many don't have the gimmick he ran with - being a black guy in the south, playing guitar & lead singer in a 'white' rock group...& now a black country singer...?
Honestly not being racist or anything, but you have to see the point there.
He was given lots of opportunities for simply not being the 'normal' type. It's like artist& actors saying crazy stuff, dressing freaky, using shock value to get attention, or being flamboyant so others notice you.
I'm sure plenty of people like him & his music, & good for them! I just don't.
Plenty of artists could use the chances he's been given and go farther, without being so stupid as to alienate a potential huge amount of fans (which are indeed predominantly country listeners).

I've been to 3 Rucker concerts and other than showing the sc logo under his mic stand never mentioned clemson, as Lee Brice only said to beat the gamecocks the night before the game at his concert in LJC
