We have missed on Qbs for at least the last 3 cycles it appears(DJ, Cade, and Vizzina as some are saying). We have had 2 OCs in that time period and might be heading for a 3rd. How are we getting top talent and they just flounder consistently? Are we missing in evaluations? Are we not developing these guys? Is it the scheme? Is it the OL? I believe it to be a combo of development and scheme. Although, it might be evaluations as we were in it to the end with Lagway and he isnt looking so great. Somehow Washington State is getting better Quarterback play then we are. They produced Cam Ward and John Mateer. If they can find the talent, Clemson should be able to as well. No matter what the problem is, it needs to be fixed as practically any team in the country can find a capable QB. What do you think the problem is?

The question is, where to begin to even try to explain it. Its hard to look at play calling when you study the game film. So many open receivers and we either drop the ball or simply dont throw it. That would lead to this discussion:
offensive line is porous
QB is indecisive and late in his progressions
receivers are inconsistent
tailbacks are inexperienced
QB has happy feet even when he doesnt have pressure
penalties are inexcusable at times
pre-snap reads are wrong so the play is ineffective
missed blocks are killing momentum
where are the tight ends?
and the list goes on.

Go study the film and its hard to blame play calling as much as everyone wants to. There have been plenty of good calls that just were not executed. When you make the easy play the defense has to adjust and the play calling gets easier. We cant make the easy play! Cade could have big numbers right now and he is not seeing the field. That is perplexing given he should know the plays better than anyone. Is he not reading the defense schemes well? Does he not trust certain players? I thought a comment that was made said more than the statement itself regarding A Williams. Him being out had crippled the offense. Are we a one man show now? No one player makes a team so who steps up and continues the climb? The QB has to instill confidence and his indecision at the line are killing those chances and the direction of the offense. All that said to say that coaching is lacking and that was admitted this week. Players are being paid and not producing. It all points to the same thing.

Multifaceted.

With DW and TL we expected them to be great. But there wasn’t a goal of being THE GREATEST. No pressure from the coach of winning it all…

I think Dabo has put a real, and probably unhealthy amount of pressure on DJU and CK. DJU was a bit of a head case due to that and his parents’ divorce. CK is a head case too but aside from the pressure? Idk what his deal is.

This is all coupled with a lack of offensive development / identity. In CK2’s defense, he lacked weapons in ‘23 which probably put him on a bad note. But we have the best weapons around him now in ‘25, he’s come off of a great season on his part, so there’s really no excuse for him playing so bad.

Alternate theory: I wonder if there’s (and not just clemson but at a lot of schools) a world where guys are getting paid big time to throw games or not make plays. The betting world has really BLOWN up from an underground thing to a massive business in the last 5~ years so I am almost totally certain dudes are making more throwing games than NIL can pay them…but who knows… I have no evidence to support my theory.
