Basically, pushed back against the disease that is Trumpism that many of them are too stupid to realize is going to destroy their party.

I think it's too late, though, honestly.

She's not fighting "Trumpism" so much as she's fighting conservative media and especially Fox News...amplified by the power of social media. And Fox News is now aware they've created their own Conspiracy Monster and if they don't feed it their viewers change the channel for OAN and NewsMax and so they in turn are having to inch further and further right to keep feeding the beast they themselves created...this isn't going to end well. Especially since old Rupert Murdoch is 90 and Lachlan Murdoch just moved his kids back to Australia and increasingly has no skin in the game; he really could care less if America catches fire and explodes as long as Fox keeps making truckloads of money for News Corp.

Kind of a vicious feedback loop, and until we kill Fox, I don't see the way out. I think we have to get back to equal-time, or the polarized crazy on the extremes is going to eat us up.

"Trumpism" is innately media-related. It is, sorry. How people get their information is totally borked. Garbage in, garbage out.

I am not crazy about CNN or MSNBC and I really do not like their constant social advocacy for a lot of causes I personally do not often support and I think they crossed the line from being neutral dispensers of news to being active social advocates a long while back, but again, that's why I'm a strong advocate of a return to the equal-time laws we got away from in the 80's...which led directly the the rise of Fox News, and in turn, led directly to the current state of the GOP. Ask any GOP politician. They lost control of their party around 2010, right around the time Hannity & Co. started calling out anybody trying to compromise with Dems...with anything. Former House Speaker John Boehner admitted as much in his memoirs just the other day.

Fox News was formed by Roger Ailes - a former Nixon disciple - for one purpose - to blunt the effect of the actual media on conservative politicians. He watched the media call Nixon to account for his sins and realized that a "conservative" media could shield future Republican presidents from that reckoning...with Trump, it did exactly what it was supposed to do, not once but twice, shielding him from consequences of impeachable behavior that more than sufficed get any other president removed from office. Trump was caught red-handed; his constituents just don't care because of how the story had been spun. But courtesy of Fox, Trump's behavior has been re-spun to seem normal, even somehow...laudable.

Fox does have a decent newsroom. Their opinion hosts, on the other hand, are pure propagandists who seem to have never watched it, and increasingly, they're very dangerous and incredibly irresponsible propagandists. The divergence between realities on Fox "News" is often a little jarring. Hey, we're doing news here in the afternoon...and now we're doing this other thing, all night long, baby.

As they say, Democracy dies in darkness.

We're about as far removed from the days of Edward R. Murrow as you can get, nowadays.

We clearly need laws about what is considered actual "news", because right now it's abundantly obvious even reasonably intelligent people - and I will use you as an example - have no effing clue. Sorry.

The line between news anchor and opinion host has been hopelessly blurred, and people are conflating the two to such an extent I honestly don't think they really even understand there is a difference anymore.

That is incredibly dangerous, and if you don't understand why, I'm going to have to retract the "reasonably intelligent" description.

Our "anchors" (actually opinion hosts) are being allowed to frame issues as binary, good-versus-evil, us-versus-them when most issues are often anything but, and they are not using the "best example of the opposing argument" standard that used to be the defining measure for fulfilling the equal-time laws. Now if there's an opposition figure they find a total chump and dribble them around the lot like the Globetrotters abusing the Washington Generals, if they even do that much.

Tucker Carlson literally ducked behind the same laws that used to protect Mad magazine - that no reasonable person would believe the crap he says, and therefore he cannot be held accountable for the sh!t he says on the air.

But he's got the highest-rated "news" show on TV.

So, okay man. Clearly there's no problem there.

Oh, I'm a total independent. (It constantly amuses me how mugwumps like myself who refuse to ally themselves with any side really seem to perpetually confuse and anger binary minds that want everything to be all neat and simple-like, but sorry, man, that also just ain't the world.) But I am absolutely allied in no way with the Democratic Party, I refuse. I just think the GOP are currently a pack of a$$clown fascists headed recklessly for Nazi-ism led by derpish Infotainers and I hate your party's direction even worse, and if my saying so loudly and often bothers you, Oh Well.

And the fact is, I really do think it's the echo chamber created by these "Infotainers" that's the problem here. You used to hear those old "Life Imitating Art" sayings...with Donald Trump, he basically turned his presidency into a Reality TV show, so it was Politics Imitating Entertainment...and guess who that gives all the power to?

But you are not a dumb fellow, T3. So I would ask you: does it seem like a healthy political system where the freaking entertainers hold the actual power in a nation like America, or anything like what the Founding Fathers intended where a $%^&ing jackhole like Tucker Carlson is effectively more powerful than Mitch McConnell (he was certainly more powerful than John Boehner) and probably second only to Donald Trump himself in terms of actual influence over the Republican Party, and can make and break politicians and presidencies just by how a couple of key guys like Hannity and Carlson cover them with in primetime TV shows? (I hear you winding up with "but CNN and MSNBC!" already...and I answer you: yes, dude. I hear you, that's why I wanna bring back equal-time, because this crap is old.

Because it seems kind of messed up to me, and no way to run a political system. At least not one that lends itself to quality discussion and resolution of issues.

Listen, I admire what you're doing. I always enjoy your posts. But you gotta put the brakes on here.

First, T3 isn't intelligent. That's evidenced with how he can't grasp objectivity in viewing either side of the political aisle, and he doesn't even grasp his own behavior when it mimics those he attacks and reports on this site.

An intelligent man doesn't do these things, and you're spinning your wheels trying to explain it to him.

T3 knows that Tucker, Hannity, Fox, et al, operate in exactly the way you described. The problem is, he thinks that's okay because he perceives it as his side. T3 thinks anything Pub or supposedly conservative is good, and anything supposedly liberal or Dem is bad (and his perverted definition of those things is just anything he doesn't agree with). So, in T3's mind, the ends justify the means because he believes as long as his side wins, good has triumphed.

You can't reason with a person like that. You can't explain logic to someone like that. That's a person devoid of critical thinking and analytical skills, and possesses the emotional traits of sociopathy.

Look to his responses here. He's twice accused you of saying things you didn't. He knows you didn't say those things. He's simply trying to derail you.

T3 is a troglodyte who justifies and supports detrimental behavior so long as it is on his "team". Or even his own. A prime example is his whining and crying about people giving him a TD here. He'll complain to no end, and he'll report it to the mods. Yet, he'll dish out TDs left and right, and when questioned about it and his hypocrisy, his justification is, "Well, they deserve it. Because I said so."

If you can't reason with a person who uses such logical justifications similar to that of a toddler, you are not going to get him to understand the higher level concepts you are describing. Every time--every time--someone here has tried to civilly disagree with him and explain their views to him, he launches into a personal attack. He's done it with you in this thread despite your attempts to remain polite and even complimentary.

So no, you and I will have a rare disagreement here: He's not an intelligent man. You spit out great stuff on this board. Don't throw your pearls before swine.

I agree he shows a lot of that, sometimes (maybe a lot of times)...and then every so often the sun comes out and blink, blink, blink, hey, what's this? Here's this at least half-decent intelligent guy who does seem to get it, who is an actual human being who does love his kids and is just a normal guy like the rest of us, and I really dunno what the rest of that belligerent simplistic Binary Mind crap is, because he is not a dummy, at least not when he's not concentrating 100% of his mental energies on being a total mule-stubborn jackhole, anyhow.

And anyhow, it's kind of the point of P&R to talk to people who disagree with you, you know? I dunno if I'm necessarily going to convince him - or anybody, really - but I think you gotta at least try to have the discussion. Or else what are we doing here, anyhow?

You are ignoring what I said about free speech though. That is their RIGHT to say whatever they want as long as it is legal. It’s also a function of the market to determine what people want to hear. If people wanted what you are describing, they’d be tuned in to PBS or NPR daily. They are not. Nobody should be able to decide who the “correct” opinions and official news are. As I mentioned above, WAPO, CNN and NBC were forced to retract false accusations against Giuliani. We have seen them repeatedly ignore negative stories against the Biden Admin as well.

So yes, I fully understand the 8-11 crews of all three networks are entertainers. My problem as I said is that you never criticize the Don Lemons or Lawrence O’Donnells of the world...just Tucker and Hannity. You had a guy on video admitting CNN is fake news and their goal was to destroy Trump at all costs. What did you say about that? You attacked Project Veritas and James O’Keefe instead. Did you know that O’Keefe has never lost a lawsuit?

So that’s why I question your independence. If you said instead, we need to cut out the non-news segments on all three or quit calling them news networks, I could agree with you. However, you just blame Fox News and Rupert Murdoch. I also don’t understand why you’re complaining about equal time when there’s only one Fox News against both CNN and MSNBC. It seems as though you just want to eliminate any dissenting opinions and views.

How do I put this...CNN/MSNBC are off the reservation. Yeah, they're doing some stuff that definitely warrants correction.

Fox on the other hand, is pure poison. They're cancer. They're the anti-press. They have to go, period, at least in their present form. They're the American Taliban, existing purely to negate the effect of actual news, and until they get gone, at least doing business the way they do it now, the actual news is going to have only minimal effect anyhow, because nobody listening to Fox is ever going to hear the actual news. Step #1 is either fining/regulating these guys and getting them off the air, or reigning them in to the point they become just an acceptable center-right leaning actual news source again, which they haven't been for a long time. (They were at one point.)

And then we have to proceed to - and here's where you're really not listening to me - reigning in the "mainstream" press and holding them a lot more accountable for bad/rushed journalism and editorialism/activism posing as actual journalism, because they're blurring just way too many of those lines themselves and blurring the line between pundit and journalist now themselves. The cable news anchors are among the worst at it. Rachel Maddow literally makes me effing cringe. A fairly left-wing publication called Slate did a piece a couple years back that pegged her perfectly.

https://slate.com/culture/2019/03/rachel-maddow-mueller-report-trump-barr.html

Again, here's where equal-time comes in, and sorry, even some of the more credible top-dog publications like WaPo and New York Times have been whiffing just way too often lately by pushing out stories, and we need a lot more postmortem inquiries on what exactly happened. How did they get led down the primrose path on some of these stories? Did they get lied to, owned, or just want to believe something? Where was the editorial oversight on all this? But questions about process seriously need to be asked because there have been too many obvious big whiffs lately. When a big miss happens, there needs to be a big public examination, and the process needs to be painful.

But no, the "mainstream" press is not good enough right now either. Not nearly good enough.

I use conservative loosely because they actually hold a lot of values that as recently as fifteen years ago were decidedly liberal, like being anti-war and pro-American worker (in the actually provide jobs sense, not the sounds-good-on-paper but would actually screw small businesses and workers 15 dollars an hour sense).

I'll vote for leftists to accelerate our slide into a civil war before I vote for globalist Republicans like Cheney.

This is a thread about why Liz Cheney (a conservative) is falling out of favor with Trumpkins. And you're blaming the left. Too funny. So is Liz really a far left liberal? Please explain.

Oh I didn’t. She’s a neocon. Her job is to pretend to oppose leftism and lose.

What conservative values does Trump fight for that Liz does not? Is it because Liz wants voter fraud to actually be proven? LOL.

A) a link to the FBI admitting their agenda

Or

B) a link to the propaganda arm of the left reporting on how the FBI works for the left.

I watch their actions and think critically. I don’t need my inductive reasoning done for me.

The claim is a pretty outrageous and fantastical one, so it pretty much demands proof. LOLing it and saying, in effect, "Ha, how can I provide evidence?!" isn't a great look.

The idea that the primary law enforcement agency of America--a profession that traditionally draws conservatives--is consumed by liberalism is a pretty far-fetched one.

The evidence is in every action they’ve taken (and refused to take) over the last several years. White supremacy, and ideology with about 10,000 adherents, is a grave domestic terror threat. Leftist organizations that actually burn down buildings, take over whole sections of cities and repeatedly incite violence to achieve their political goals are not a threat at all. Why? Because your supposedly conservative FBI says so.

Isn't part of the problem that they (the destructive leftists) don't really have any concrete organization/leadership to target?

Who leads BLM? Who leads Antifa? We can easily name the upper leadership of Proud Boys, et al.

It doesn't seem to make much sense that the FBI would willingly let an organized group burn down sections of a city and incite violence without taking action. What would be the incentive?

Maybe you agree with the goals. Maybe the terrorism itself serves a different goal.

Good to know that if I want to organize a terrorist group and be left alone by the FBI, all I have to do is decentralize leadership. Neat.

Let me say this again: You think the freakin' national police force of America sympathizes with leftist anarchists bent on tearing down society?

You know the answer and it has nothing to do with conservative ideology.

This totally about the American bourgeoisie and their patronage. She isn't sponsored by the proletariat Trump wing. Her patrons are from the early old neo-con crowd, Saudi Aramco, BP, Exxon Mobil, Halliburton, KBR, Lockheed, Raytheon, yada yada yada.

That's fascinating.

I'm also hearing a big part of her problem is that she understands working relationships and inherited all her father's relationships and networks, but she doesn't understand actual politics, and she really p!sses people off. Basically, she's supposedly an entitled second-gen old money princess who was born with the silver spoon, has nothing in the way of a ground wire, and the real world is roughing her up some.
