Went in for a Total Knee Replacement

Aug 25, 2022, 10:31 AM

Yesterday. At 47, I’m on the young end for that surgery.
Please pray that my recovery goes exceptional!

Be sure to take a pain pill about an hour before you do your physical therapy. It is going to hurt A LOT.

Had my left knee replaced in 2018. My right knee is going to need it sooner than later. Good luck, it's great after you recover. The first 3 weeks are tough.

Had one done 5 months ago -- walking fine -- You'll be good -- tough first week or so -- stopped taking oxy after 3 days due to constipation --really had no pain anyway -- do pt and get up and move around! I'm 71. Good luck!

My Bride has had both replaced so I am kinda an expert.
This is going to make you very happy. This is going to greatly improve your life.

Had both done, right one most recently last year. The most

Aug 25, 2022, 1:43 PM

critical thing is to do your rehab. The first two weeks are rough and you will need that oxycodone, but get off it as soon as you can. Don't skip a day or cut yourself short on the exercises. I had a freind in the orthopedic business who got me a machine that would work my leg like a bicycle even when I was lying down. Insurance usually doesn't cover it but it made a big difference for me as far as my range of motion. Focus on that the most. You can always work to get stronger but after a while your range is going to be unchangeable. I worked that for a year and am still working to get stronger. Good luck!

I am having a knee replacement next month and I am interested in the machine that you are talking about. Can you give me more information? You can Tmail me or just put on on here. Thanks!

Prayers for a quick and total recovery. I will be doing the same thing on October 4. I may reach out for some words of advice then. In the meantime, I will keep you in prayer.

Praying that post surgery recovery goes smoothly, and that

Aug 26, 2022, 10:44 AM

you survive rehab. You are going to think it is impossible to stretch your leg all the way flat, and the therapists are going to prove you cryingly wrong.

:)

(You might as well laugh, it may cut down on the crying!)

I hope that he is right-because I would hate to see worse!!

Had my right knee done and could not take any pain medication other than Tyenol. I had extreme pain for at least a month.

Re: Went in for a Total Knee Replacement

Aug 26, 2022, 12:07 PM

First 2-3 weeks suck. There is no getting around that. But thats what the pain meds and ice are for. Do everything your DPT tells you to do...and even add an extra set of it all if you are up for it. Most important thing is to get your knee to full extension, and the bending is secondary.

It hurts early on, and it takes a lot of work, but six months from now you will likely wish you had done the surgery soon because it will feel so good.
