Well we moved from 33 to 30 on the NET rankings

And the funny thing is Duke remained at number 2. This system needs to be trashed. I’d rather just let the AP writers pick again… at least they look at who wins and loses.

At least they could count OT losses the same as wins. And triple OTs as 3 wins. Makes as much sense as some of the stuff they decided to use.

It lust makes no sense… the rankings are based on the teams “perceived” rankings that you play, not on wins and losses. It’s the same thing they’re doing in the playoff rankings now. And all those “perceived” rankings in the preseason are just guesses to start with. One of these days they won’t come out with any rankings until at least 50% of the season is completed. At least you could start with some objective choices.

Duke moved from 2 to 1 in KenPom when Auburn lost and then back to 2 when we beat them. I think we only moved up 1 spot. Our rating went up close to a full pt though from +20-something to a little over +21. Duke was over +36 and now sits at +35.5.
When you've already played 23 or 24 games, the result of 1 game isn't going to change your rating by a large amount unless you either vastly overperform or vastly underperform the projection.

Yep… and that’s a problem. Wins and losses lose their importance.

The NCAAT committee will look at the win over Duke by a lot though. Even if around 30 could be considered more of a 6th seed now, at least a 7 seed.

When did the AP writers pick? I assume you mean picks who gets into the NCAA tourney and where seeded . Hasn’t there always been a committee to decide since the tourney was expanded to include at large teams?

Yes for a long long time. I’m just talking about weekly rankings.

Our NET isnt likely to change much at this point.

As long as a team’s NET is solid, seeding really comes down to quality wins, record in quad 1 and 2 games, etc.

As the season get longer, it comes down to quality opponents as much as wins and losses.

Makes no sense at all. Take St Mary’s they beat an unranked Oregon State and went from 24 to 21 in net. We both have 3-2 quad 1 records and they are 20-4 to our 19-5. Basically they are saying the West coast conference is better than ACC

NET rankings change on a game by game basis, not week by week. It’s very inconsistent.

Seems pretty fair with the loss to Gtech. We are still looking solid for the tournament. Beat UNC!

What we really need is new batch of AP writers. The current bunch are so biased it is unbelievable.

I see all these teams in there with tons of quad 1 Ls carrying them. It makes no sense.
