for me to forgive Dabo on the loss to the Coots last year. I will NEVER forget 200+ Coot students dancing in the middle of DT Clemson as they end our home win streak and keep us out of the playoffs.
It starts Saturday. Get it done Dabo.

Your question suggests you received neither.
I received both. And wooden paddles at school, and the occasional flying high heeled shoe.

that would have just resulted in an unnecessary embarrassment. So that part was a silver lining, really.
That said, I hear you about the loss itself -it was unnecessary and aided by a host of terrible decisions by the coaching staff.
Dabo's accomplished a lot - suffice it to say that that loss does not undo all the accomplishments he's lead Clemson to, and neither do those accomplishments undo the idiocy of that loss. The only thing he could really do to make it right is to have admitted that he/they made a clusterF of coaching decisions - that he did not put them in the best position to win . . . but that ship has sailed.

You never NOT wanna go. And that was our "supposed down year".
Reality is this is a down year but the sour taste of it can get better with a big win Saturday.

the idea that anything can happen is just the bottom-level theoretical baseline. It doesn't mean that good things are just as likely or even remotely likely to happen. Clemson didn't have it on that level last year. We played Tenn in the bowl and lost in a not terribly competitive game . . . and Tenn was not as good as OSU, GA, etc. That alone is heavy evidence that we had not reason to expect anything other than an embarrassment vs. GA, OSU, etc. The loss to SC, the death of that streak, the home win streak, and just the loss of bragging rights for the year were far bigger than any playoff concern.

Saying anything can happen is not the same as saying something good is likely to happen.
It'd better to make the playoffs than not. Better to lose in the playoffs than lose in a bowl game.

"Saying anything can happen is not the same as saying something good is likely to happen." Yes, that's exactly my point . . . and as such, following from that is the fact that saying it's "possible" that we would have beaten UGA or Ohio State in the playoff is a relatively worthless theoretical possibility when weighed against the severe unlikelihood of that actually panning out, especially when the data we do have is that we lost uncompetitively to a much lesser team than the playoff teams.
I don't agree that it's *categorically* better to go to the playoffs than not. All things being equal, it is better. But all things aren't always equal and it was painfully clear last year, even before the loss to the chickens, that Clemson wasn't playoff caliber. Furthermore, the comparison is not simply between losing in the playoff and losing in a bowl game . . . b/c ostensibly, going to a non-playoff bowl game will usually present a better chance of winning than the playoff game. Sometimes the comparison is between the certainty of getting whacked, on the one hand, with at least a decent chance of going out on a winning note, on the other.
At the very least, it's at least easy to see in retrospect, that not going was a silver lining. Even though we lost to Tenn, we had a much better chance of winning and ending the season on a positive note against Tenn than if we'd played TCU, GA, Mich, or OSU.

We couldn't land a real 5 star before Trevor graduated. All the top QBs expected to start freshman year and look for a program which offered that. DJ was the best we could do with TL at the helm. Cade needed a lot of work in the weight room and playing with D1 players to develop and refine his skill.
Frankly, I would have cut my losses and spent last year developing Cade and letting DJ sit. We might have lost as many games last season as we have now but by game 5 I would have cut my losses.
Cade had some of the same problems DJ had but with DJ I was sure by game 6 that he wasn't going to overcome them. Cade is passed the hump. He can hit receivers crossing the field in stride which provides great opportunity for extra yards especially when they are the secondary man, first checkdown.
Last season is understandable and this season easier because Cade, we can see, is going to be good enough to get us back where we belong.
+1 for hoping we didn't become the sacrificial lamb to the #1 seed.

I laid that loss at the feet of DJ....I remember wondering to myself after the game if it was the worst performance by a Clemson QB i had ever seen . Never in my life do I recall so many throws in the dirt or 10 feet over a receivers head. Had me thinking he would lose an accuracy contest against Stevie Wonder
Clearly he wasn't the only problem but he surely wasn't the solution

Not even close to the worst. Rodney Williams in the late 80's against NC State hands down. I think that he had 9 completions and 4 of them were to NC State. I'm not sure that it wasn't 4 and 4 but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he had 1 more to us.

Of course he didn't want to lose....but when you're up 14 and still slinging the ball around with DJ when we were running it down their throats....you get the deserved criticism for losing the game with coaching. It was bad...real bad.

In this case, I actually blame DJU.

Programs can rise, fall, rise, and fall again in seven years. What did we lose last season that will take 7 years to get back? We’ll likely be in the playoffs again next season.

It isn’t the first game Clemson has lost to them and it won’t be the last. We just forgot what that felt like. As long as we don’t make it a habit and drop one per decade we should be grateful. Anything less than that is unreasonable
