Help for a Clemson student!!

Nov 6, 2021, 1:09 AM

Hello all! I’ve posted for my daughter, Ashlyn, before. I’ve posted links to her singing the National Anthem at the Clemson basketball game, the Charlotte Hornets, etc.. Last year she was supposed to sing at an Atlanta Falcons game, the Panthers, Miami Heat, and Portland Trailblazers. However, Covid really threw a monkey wrench in those plans.

She did a project with another female singer and it was released on Halloween. The name of the song is “Big Long Road to Texas”. She co-wrote it with the other girl and she really worked hard at it. She is majoring in music/voice at Clemson and really wants to make it in the music industry. I’ve seen how hard it feels s to crack that and make it, but she has a strong determination and asked that I post a link to the song on ITunes. It’s is also on other streaming platforms such as Spotify. The song is also on YouTube. If you guys and gals wouldn’t mind listening to it and liking and/or sharing I would appreciate it so much. When you listen she is the voice you hear first. I think she is wonderful, but what else would Papa Bear think? Lol.

Thanks in advance to anyone that will give it a listen. If you listen to it on YouTube, please give it a thumbs up. They have weird algorithms that she and I, both, don’t know how to get more views, likes, and basically traffic to her song.

Sincerely- TheBraveTiger

Re: Help for a Clemson student!! - they have great voices

Listened to the Youtube video and gave it a like. Noticed it already had about 600 views in about a week; that's great. My son and his friend have posted gaming videos in the past and gotten maybe a couple hundred views in months or years.

Noticed the comments were turned off either by the poster or Youtube. Videos where people can comment often generate more interest and views, but of course it's a two-way street since there will obviously be comments you won't like. And a video of them recording it live or with a nature scene or some kind of action or something would probably generate more interest and views. Not wanting to be critical, just trying to be helpful.

Gave a thumbs up.

Certainly encourage anyone to follow their passion especially when it comes to music.

The song sounds good - one thing I'd add to this is that a career in music can be an awesome experience but definitely help your daughter figure out what success looks like down the line.

There are more ways than just being a commercial success (think Dolly Parton, Reba, Miranda Lambert, Carrie Underwood, etc) to make a career outta music.

I know musicians that gig regularly on the weekends; some folks work as singer-songwriters; heck, your daughter can even do some solo gigs like singing at wedding ceremonies or making a music profile online to offer her vocals for songs for a fee. (Definitely recommend reading up on some music business books if she's going to go all in on this.)

In regards of getting more traffic for views, finding a place where this song fits helps (like places on the web where folks enjoy this kind of music - easier said than done and definitely more of an art form than a science).

There's always a chance a share somewhere can turn viral but I wouldn't bet my worth on it because it takes more than a good sound or decent lyrics to really take off. It's a marketing game nowadays and plenty of talent around trying to do the same thing - definitely a right time, right place thing.

Certainly wish y'all well whether this is just a fun phase for your daughter or something that leads to her calling!

Well done!

For those that want the YouTube link:

Is Hellz Bellz the name of a band of which she is a member or did she record this with a group of studio musicians? If it is a band - are they planning to play some local gigs?

Definitely enjoyed the song - kind of a nice mix of styles (southern rock with some country thrown in). She and her friend harmonize very well and one can hear their talent. I wish her much success!

Thank you to anyone who has listened to or bought her song.

This recording was done in Nashville with a producer that she has known for a few years. The group Hellz Bellz is made up of my daughter, Ashlyn Blakely, and her friend, Hope Doud. The producer plays all the instruments on the recording. The drums, however, are drum loops from a computer. If they were to do a local gig they would have to get musicians for it. I have played drums my whole life, so I wouldn’t be surprised if I am playing for her since I would play for free obviously.

As for The Voice. She has tried out twice and the first time she didn’t make it past her second audition in Atlanta, which was her callback. Her second time she made it all the way up to a Zoom call with a producer of the show. Then she unfortunately was told no. It’s crazy what it takes to get on the show. I’ve heard girls on the show that get chair turns that I don’t think are as good as her. I am biased though. Lol. Below is a link to a TikTok video of her singing “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston. Thanks again to anyone who takes time to listen. God bless!

It was a good song. Thanks tabby for the you tube version. You should research how to get her on a show like the voice. Hook her up with Kelly or Blake.
