until our coaching staff is upgraded. Other than Grisham, our current RB & WR coaches would not have a coaching job anywhere but Clemson. WG is a great guy and a good analyst but he’s in over his head at DC. You can’t replace BV with WG. The talent we had on D this year covered for his lack of coaching skills this year. Our D will slowly wither away as the talent on D diminishes. Hopefully CDS will upgrade the staff in the offseason. GO TIGERS!!!

.......Then why are we getting horribly gashed on these running plays??? Why are we missing tackles that we shouldn't be missing??? Why are 3rd and longs.... being easily converted more times than usual???? Why we don't make proper adjustments...during the game???
We had running backs in the past that were not starters...but they knew most of the plays ...and how to pass block. What is really going on with all that ....if it's not coaching???

but it happened vs nearly every opponent we faced (throttled and gashed by the run) which points to discipline and lack of accountability. It starting to become clearer why BV needed that get back man, appears he had to stay on somebody's ### and in their ear 247 to get results.

Our situational play calling is a disaster. Bad play calls straight up cost us the chicken game and we were in the texas game until we can’t get one yard for a TD with seven minutes remaining. Anyone that watched this team all year knew exactly what we were going to do on third & fourth down. It’s to the point that the coaches are costing us games not the players. Cade makes some boneheaded decisions sometimes but they’re usually a result of him not getting the correct advice from our coaches. We wasted alot of talent this year and it’s not fair to the players.

I always laugh at guys who pretend they know the play calls. After the play. What a riot.
Play calls didn’t cost the coot game. Poor execution and a poor decision and pass going in for the win did. Two runs against Texas didn’t cost us the game either. Cade made a nice run for almost 5 yards and almost scored, and blocking sucked on Adams run. Sometimes teams short yardage. It happens. If we would have passed from the 1 freaking yard line and missed, you’re the guy who would say in hindsight, “everyone knew we were gonna pass, why didn’t we just pound it in”. As it was we went against tendencies. We just didn’t execute against a great defense. In case you didn’t notice, it was fantastic play calling that had more passing yards and TDs against Texas than everyone else.
Guys like you are literally comical.
Nothing wrong with the coach other than to figure out the run defense. That’s why we lost 4 games. Nothing else really.

Yep ..... nailed it ..... armchair quarterbacking is easy. Poor execution on our part or great execution on their part caused us not to score, not bad play calling.

Seems to me giving up 2 long QB runs was the difference in the SC game. Take those 2 away and we win by double digits.
Griping about play calling strikes me as lazy and totally hindsight. Take 2 runs straight up the middle. One loses 2 yards and one goes 80 yards for a TD. Both play calls the same. We never complain about a play call when it works, only if it doesn't work.

Are you saying Grisham could get a job somewhere else as a wr coach? Either Spiller has a great eye for talent or he can coach most of our transfers start and contribute at other D1 schools. Our RB seem to get better while here unless injured. Our wr seem about the same from when they come to when the graduate other than getting bigger and stronger. Not saying Spiller is elite but at least his players show improvement.

Grisham is the key relationship-building recruiter for the WRs. If you like Wesco, Moore, and Tyler Brown, then you’d be smart to want Tyler Grisham on our team.
BTW, So-so former Clemson WR Beaux Collins was coached by Grisham. Collins evolved from being a WR with limited speed, moves, hands, and blocking ability into a credible WR with good hands and good blocker. That demonstrated effectiveness of Grisham’s coaching acumen.

Coaching is not the issue. One of the issues is with bigger conferences, there is chance your schedule is strong and an equal chance it is weak. Ours was weak this year and we were not good enough when we played the best teams on our schedule. The other issue you people just simply must understand is that we had unbelievably talented teams in 81, 16 and 18 but that guarantees absolutely nothing except we have a chance but unlikely every year. Celebrate the past, enjoy the present and be thankful for what we have, because it is so much more than so many schools.

We wont compete for natty again - - - this year

In 2025, we’ll be among the Top 5 teams after beating LSU. We’ll remain in the Top 5 throughout the season, beat a respectable yet still disappointing S.Carolina team in Columbia and go into the ACC Championship game as a still-Top 5 team.
Win or lose in the ACC Championship game, we’ll be back in the playoffs with a very talented & experienced team across the board. Next year, we’ve got a legitimate chance at winning another National Championship.
Caveats: Serious injury to any from among (1) CK2; (2) two or more WRs from among Wesco, Moore, T.Brown, A.Williams; (3) TJ Parker; (4) any one from among LBs S.Brown or W.Woodaz; (5) N.Hauser; (6) any one from among A.Terrell or A.Hampton; (7) any three from among B.Miller, R.Linthicum, T.Leigh, C.Sadler, E.Thurman, W.Parks, or H.Sewell; and (8) if P.Woods goes down, then we can not lose any other DTs.
Our high level success outcome has the prerequisite of extensive health among the key starters and selected key reserve players.

I don't believe the preseason ranking will be high enough to put Clemson into the top 5 with a win versus LSU. That's the problem with these preseason rankings. Any team not listed has a rather large mountain to climb...

The talent we had on defense this year wasn't very good. We lack depth at linebacker and the secondary was young. The d line was inconsistent.

I agree with the broad statement that we will not compete for the Natty unless something changes. I don't really understand the love for Grisham. The WR's looked better this year, but before I would have and actually did say that Grisham needed to be the first to go. I think that the jury is still out on the offensive side.
I like Reed on the defensive side but was disappointed in the DB play this year. I think that the other position coaches on defense need to prove something. As for Goodwin, the experiment didn't work. Nothing against him personally or what he might be able to do as a coach, but as you said he is in over his head. I would help him pack but for the money that he was paid that he did not deserve, he can afford a moving company. He needs to be gone.
