Recruit Switches from Clemson to SMC

RHP Graham Lawson was supposed to enroll at Clemson in a few weeks. Instead, he is now committed to SMC. Not sure why.
This leaves Clemson with one SC kid in the incoming class.

Clemson to Spartanburg Methodist? Anything to do with grades? Cant think of anything else. Girlfriend going to SMC? Maybe he didnt get a big enough scholarship and parents cant afford it?

Whenever you see a kid switch to a JUCO, you always wonder if he had trouble getting admitted. I have no idea if that was the case or not. But, there are other possible explanations.
1. JUCO's often try to sell recruits on the idea that "You can get drafted after your freshman year if you come here." While technically true, this doesn't happen very often. But, some kids choose JUCO's for this reason.
2. Some kids choose JUCO's because they will have a better chance to start from Day 1. But, with the Clemson pitching rotation wide open for next year, everybody will have a legitimate chance to pitch, if he can get the job done.
3. SMC just hired a new pitching coach, a local guy, Kevin Pucetas, who I think will be very good. Maybe the kid just wants to play for Pucetas.
4. Money could very well be an issue. He probably wasn't going to get more than 25% from Clemson. If he has a 3.0, he can live at home and go to SMC for free. He wouldn't be the first kid that we lost because of financial reasons, although that happens more with out of state kids.
5. Maybe he was disappointed that he wasn't going to get to play for Leggett and/or Pepicelli.
6. Maybe Monte suggested that he look elsewhere.
7. Maybe he met Monte before committing to Clemson and didn't like him.
8. Maybe his buddies currently at SMC talked him into going there.
9. Some combination of the above.
10. None of the above.

when a recruit chooses to go elsewhere, but switching from Clemson to JUCO tells you something is going on like that.

Monte hasn't backed down from a challenge yet. I see him working out this situation in the favor of Clemson Baseball. If he doesn't come up with a solution he'll make sure the guys he has do well and have fun. One guy isn't making or breaking Monte. I'm so thankful he is our coach. I believe we will see dividends this year.
Go Tigers!!
