ACC splits $291 million; Maryland gets ZIP

http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/11044060/acc-distributed-record-2917-million-total-revenue-2013-14-fiscal-year
Average of $20.8M to each in ACC Updated: June 6, 2014, 7:37 PM ET By Andrea Adelson | ESPN.com 17869COMMENTS59EMAILPRINT
The Atlantic Coast Conference distributed a record $291.7 million in total revenue for the 2013-14 fiscal year, the league disclosed to ESPN.com on Friday.
That number is up $56.6 million over last year, when the ACC was a 12-member conference. But now it has 15 members with the additions of Pittsburgh, Syracuse and Notre Dame in all sports except for football.
Expansion allowed the ACC to renegotiate its television deal, a big reason why revenues have increased. All 14 full members are set to receive an average of $20.8 million, up $1.2 million from last year.
Notre Dame will receive a different share, which was undisclosed.
The $20.8 million average each school is in line to receive is nearly identical to what will go to the 14-team SEC, which announced last week it will hand out slightly more than $20.9 million to its member schools after a record $292.8 million in total revenue.
The Big 12 also announced last week it would distribute a record $23 million to each of its 10-member schools.
Maryland, which leaves the ACC for the Big Ten on July 1, will have its share withheld until its lawsuit against the league is resolved. The Terps are challenging whether they should pay the $52 million exit fee required by ACC bylaws. The ACC countersued. A mediator has been assigned to try and work out a settlement between the two.
The distributions from the ACC do not include the individual multimedia rights deals each school owns.

funds distribution.
I am curious to find out how much ND is being given considering the biggest money making sport is football, and, of course, ND ain't in it for football revenue and their basketball and baseball programs bit the big one this past year

saying the conference would die, need to go to the BIG 12 to compete, this can't be right. ESPN should check with T Net before writing an article such as this.

It has worked in the short term.

But that was never the point. The Big XII expects to double their payouts over the next few years. If the ACC can keep pace to some extent, then we made the right decision.

ACC is not going anywhere. And Clemson is one of two premier teams in the league right now.
The expansion has done a good job of solidifying the league for the future.

The ACC can stay where it is and get left behind.

That's what I'm saying.
And it's not a little thing that we're splitting our pie 14.5 ways, while the Big XII is at ten. That will make it all the more difficult to keep up.

For the Big XII. Their market share won't increase as much

as the ACC's. CFB has been growing at a steady rate and even the some of those 'northern' teams will be impacting the demographics more... Big XII gets a bigger slice of a smaller pie...

Maryland gains way more than $$$

They gain an intense new rivalry with Minnesota which, to be honest, is worth more than any dollar amount. It's priceless.
Have fun flying to Minnesota in November, twerp fans. You sold your souls for that.

The BigXII is going to double it's payout in the next few years? Really? That is the same kinda myth that everyone on this board has been trying to sell about for years about the SEC and how much more money they get than the ACC.
The ACC is in great shape and poised to grow and exceed the SEC in payouts. The SEC better hope the B1G doesn't go to 16 teams, because their number one targets will be Texas A&M and Mizzu. Mizzu would jump at the chance to join the B1G and so would Texas A&M and that would take half of the SEC population base.

Yes the big 12 will increase revenue but so will everyone else. All of the big 5 conferences will split playoff money equally. That means a huge increase for everyone. Sure the big 12 will get a little more because they only have 10 teams but that amount is not huge. Point being yes we are behind slightly but people who think the sky is falling are crazy. Revenues will be up across the board next year and the ACC will be right in the ballpark with everyone else.

Just a few numbers for you. Conference revenue is expected to grow from 23 million (29 with two bcs teams) to at least 91 million per conference. So yeah if the playoff more than triples the payout can you see why the numbers will grow?

says and I will have to see it to believe it. Nobody except WV wants to be stuck in a conference hundreds of miles from the nearest competitor.

Less Virginia doesn't even want to be there. They did it to survive, but misery loves company and they feel that if other quality teams don't join the Big 12-4+2 conference then the B12 will just end up being the new Big East. The ACC is about as solid as any other conference right now.

kick'em to the curb and sign up WV... They're a natural rival for several recent additions and geographically the most logical choice. The fact that they try to advance the education of their state with a somewhat less stringent entrance requirement is bogus Swoffi-ism... If that really mattered, NC should be sidelined for at least a few years.

Isn't this the second year the ACC has withheld money

from Maryland? If so that's 41M over the past two years and they want get anything from B1G until June of 2015. With the cost of the lawsuit and the lack of ACC money this is costing Mary more than they thought. If they lose the lawsuit they will have to come up with another 10M plus what they have spent in legal fees I can't see them get a return from joining the B1G for at least 7 to 8 years. This was not a good move for Maryland. I am glad our President and AD didn't get nervous and jump ship to the BigX11.
