yeah, lot of talk for a 7th place tie.
Clowns expecting him to put up Jacoby-like times were shocked, for sure.
He's an elite football player, not an elite track star.

attacking players? Get real. I know you want to protect your heroes, but it's okay to discuss when they do less than expected at the combine...especially when they talked themselves up to a pretty high level. I think they are big boys and don't need you being their white knight.

Seems like the OP was attacking posters for unrealistic expectations....how could he be attacking Sammy if he's simply stating he wasn't as fast as expected?

He gets to top speed quicker than most,it allows him to separate and you cant run him down because there simple isn't a lot of guys running down a 4.43 guy

As I posted yesterday I'm heavily involved in my son's track career.@ 11 he's the fastest in his age group in the low country if not all of South Carolina running 12.8 in the 100. Sammy running a 4.43 is not shocking to me . That's really fast.Its not his 40 time that impresses me. His acceleration is un match.I assure u its not all about the fourty time.Ill take a guy that runs a legit 4.5 but gets there quicker than a 4.4 guy any day. Sammy is big time and will do great things in the NFL.

Easily most plays are not going to cover 40 yds hence he that can accelerate faster in the shortest distance is going to get to open space faster.look at the play Sammy's freshmen year against FSU.He hit space and was gone. There's many other plays watch his highlights.Hope it helps if not watch Jerry Rice. 4.6 guy with great acceleration.

you meant in the 40, since the thread is about the 40 and the post was about the 40. But, you are talking about shorter distances, like say, 10 yards? They measure the 10 yard splits when they run the 40, and Sammy reportedly ran two 1.53 10 yard splits. That measures exactly what you are talking about - how quickly the player covers the first 10 yards - pure acceleration over a short distance. The WR Cooks, who had the fastest 40 time of all the WRs, ran splits of 1.50 and 1.51. To put that into perspective, Johnny Manziel had a 10 yard split of 1.59.
I agree that how quickly a player covers the first 10 yards is probably more important than how quickly they cover 40 yards. Sammy does have great acceleration, and is very good at both. There are also other players that are better at both. That's not a knock on Sammy, it's just the truth.
As for Jerry Rice, I don't know if it was so much acceleration over short distances as it was his great route running and ability to read defenses and find the seams that resulted in his outstanding career. I think a lot of Sammy's greatness comes from those abilities also, as well as his ability to fake out and shake defenders. Sammy is a lot more than speed or acceleration, as those aren't even his best qualities, in my estimation.

In conclusion I think Sammy is a great talent that all Clemson fans should be proud of.I appreciate the dialogue .The total package: speed hands intelligence acceleration competitive a winner.
