Yeah I don't remember too many players of any sport joining a frat. They were their own brotherhood

I seem to remember there were one or two back in my day (‘07-10), but I think it was more ceremonial. Pledging, even in the spring, would have been near impossible with being on the football team. He*l I could barely get to class and stay awake half the time I was pledging. Add in all the social media stuff and cameras everywhere now I wouldn’t be surprised if Dabo told the players to stay out of Greek life all together.

It was allowed back in the 60's (stone age). Some frats bragged that certain high profile athletes were members of their fraternity.
Times are certainly different now though.

From what I heard from a friend that goes to Clemson (so this is nothing reliable) players can’t join per say, but they essentially are allowed to go to all the parties or events which a lot of them do

In early 90s a lot of the football players were pledged and they branded thier Fraternity on their shoulder. I was friends with some, a lot of them got in trouble for pot. The branding took a long time to heal with dudes working out, staff didn't like dealing with the burns.

I knew afew of the football players during the West era, they were dating girls in my girl friend's sorority and one hungwith a bunch of us. One of the back-up RB's was always smoking weed, and and the 3rd string center, well, a great guy, definitely drank the night before home games. Some were slinging weed from my recollection. it is amazing West won any games, there was no discipline on that team. I remember getting blown out by McNabb and Syracuse, apparently the Oline had been out partying the night before.
It certainly does not come as a shock that Bowden ran off a lot of dudes, especially on the Oline, and took the program up a notch his second year, but man, he ran off a lot of dudes.

I don't see how any football player would have time for that, but also don't see Dabo "forbidding" it.

I remember William Devane asking other athletes why they would choose to let anyone treat them that way. Even as a student athlete he was already in character as the middle school principal he became.
