Specifically, what did he say which is make believe? Personally I would prefer to be associated with universities with integrity like WF vs blow hard schools like FSU who give off the aura of a cheap hooker who is sad they agreed to a contract which did not benefit them in the long run

It's not his integrity I'm questioning. As far as I'm concerned, the man is above reproach. However, his comments about the status of the ACC seem to be, how you say, pretty unbelievable.

When you say something is unbelievable, you should be able to give a detailed reason as to what you think is untrue. Else you have bought in to the media narrative so,you can’t believe the truth when you see it.

He mentions the ACC's status as the top academic and athletic conference in the country...Academically, perhaps, I don't know. But, I know the ACC is not the top athletic conference in the country.

Look at the last paragraph.
Sounds to me like he's saying, "Hey, Big 12, when the ACC collapses don't forget about us. We're committed to playing football at a high level."

to side with Clemson over conference controversies back in the early 50's and again during that despicable action in the early 80's.
Even Frank Howard and longtime WF HC, Peahead Walker, were big buddies, and the Wake fans have generally been very cordial there and at DV. My impression for years has been that they have largely been forced to tow the ACC line. Hence, that is my impression now with the AD's statement.
The statement, therefore, is one of self-preservation; hence, I have no problem with it. My problem for nearly 60 years, particularly the past 40, has been with the conference itself, for I can never forgive that nefarious stab-in-the-back with that extra-year's probation levied against us...a story in of itself. (Without overt detail suffice it to say no one...and I mean, NO ONE will ever convince me nor a whole lot of other older alumni that a bunch of faculty reps decided on their own that Clemson deserved further punishment. Anyone who says otherwise is full of crap!)
As for Clemson, I hope upon hope our leadership remains more circumspect, refraining from any public statement such as Wake's, and watches the developments with FSU. I believe we must keep our options open.

What else could he say? Wake benefits from being in the ACC and it would definitely have to scramble if the conference dissolved, it would probably end up G5 status!
