Hurray. Had a good undergrad friend who became a vet. Had to get one of the few SC allocated spots at UGA. You had to be so much better grade wise to be a Vet than an MD then and I suspect still is.

Our daughter majored in animal science at CU. Would have loved to have gone to Clemson for her DVM had they had the program. Wound up with an LSU DVM degree. As it was explained to us, Clemson was not pursing a DVM program at that time to the high startup costs. Glad it is now looking like it could happen.

because I started in 1968, and there wasn't one then! I remember animal science, dairy science and poultry science...I think equine came later.

Finally! My daughter graduates in Animal & Veterinary Science in May. She will not be able to benefit from this, but glad SC is finally getting a vet school. She and her other classmates have had to jump through hoops and flames of fire to try and get into out of state schools. She’s hoping to get accepted into UGA or Miss St. She visited and interviewed with Miss St. last week and was really impressed with their program.
There is a reason why there is such a shortage of vets in this state. Obviously, no vet school and that’s extremely discouraging to SC kids interested in the profession. If they do not qualify for one of the limited seats with partnered schools, they have to pay out of state tuition, which is usually around 50,000/year.

WAYYY past time.
They could also use a Medical School as well...but that's down the line. Considering CLEM's history in Sciences (think Biological Sciences is the #1 major--could be wrong abt that) & Animal Science this is a no brainer

This is great. When I started in 1980 I was told the only option for vet school was UGA and they took 11 students per year from SC. I had too much fun my first semester and learned very quickly that I needed to choose another option. I was always amazed at how restrictive it was.

we have been taking our kids to see the vet for years now, it is a lot cheaper and great not dealing with insurance companies. Our youngest had her spleen removed last month and was out the same day, I believe it only cost $450.00.

When I was in college in the 70's, I had friends who wanted to go to vet school but their only southern options were N.C State and LSU I believe. Glad they have expanded into Florida and other states.
