UNC vs Wake Friday - NOT an ACC Game

I don't keep a close enough eye on football stories, I guess. I glance at schedules, but heading into this year, about all I wanted to know was who's Clemson playing & when; where. I also don't keep a close watch on teams from NC, unless they might be good - like NCST. But given the recent past of Wake & UNC, I sort of go, "OK, don't overlook them, but take a brief look & move on."
Now UNC somehow got to 2&0. Wake does some funky stuff & maybe does a little better than '18, making tomorrow's UNC/Wake game kinda interesting.
But I missed the part about that game NOT being an official ACC game. The 2 haven't played each other since 2015, but decided to meet this year. Being a "9th" ACC game for both - it doesn't count as an ACC contest. It's just a game, but has no real bearing on the divisional races or conference as a whole. Essentially, it's an out-of-conference opponent for both. Maybe everyone knew this but me.
I'll still be interested in watching the game - since Clemson plays both. Also wanna see if Brown can get to 3&0. Game is at Wake on ACCN.

I was reading they scheduled this game back in 2015 and also one in 2021 because they don't play one another as ACC matchup again until 2022.
Makes sense for them I guess more fan interest being in the same state and no million dollar payout to bring some other school in.

Wouldn't it be strange if Wake beats UNC then they both end up with same record atop coastal division but UNC goes to ACCCG due to tie breakers because their nonconference game doesn't count in the standings

That’s why they got to do this so they play more often.

But it is an ACC game, just like our game in 2 weeks against UNC.It's just not a divisional game(Atlantic/Coastal). Each school has a cross-divisional game they play each year. We play Georgia Tech. Then every few years we face the other schools in the Coastal on a rotating basis, whether it be Va. Tech, Virginia, Duke, Miami, Pittsburg, or UNC. So tell me if I'm wrong!

It's a non conference game

Does not count in the standings at all. Not a cross divisional game.

You are incorrect. It is Non Conference game.
Instead of playing Charlotte or someone, they are playing each other. Will help the gate, will not affect conference tie breakers.

Exactly, I get it, but it is a little unorthodox. For those who don't understand every ACC team plays their 6 divisional conference games plus 2 cross divisional conference games. UNC is playing US and NC State this season for their cross divisional games. That part of the scheduling is out of the control of the schools it is done by the ACC. The schools, UNC and Wake decided they wanted to play each other, so this would be their 3rd cross division game, so it doesn't count as a conference game for them.

It's a non-conference game. Both schools want to play each other more often since they are in state rivals but in seperate divisions of the ACC so they scheduled this non-conference game, despite both being in the same conference. It does NOT count towards ACC standings at all.

I am glad that they are playing. It is a good idea and thus must have been Wake's idea.
As much as I support our new (mostly yankee) conference teams, i like to play our traditional rivals because I can normally talk about it. I have very few folks around me that are UL alums (literacy is required in my work), one Pitt alum, and i used to have a BC alum ebfore they left for yankeevania. But I have 3 FSU folks (BAHAHAHA), 2 State, folks, 2 Deacs, a nerd, and my neighbors are Dukies. Being in "wrong" carolina, I want as many cheats to see my natty sticker on the back of my car.
UNC needs a football beatdown from us, early and often. Not just this year- every year. +1 for UVA and Duke.
Our problem is that I doubt other ACC coastal teams would want to schedule us ... just look at the ACC coastal - they all had a race to be both bowl eligible but also not win the coastal. Pitt lost.

There was talk/threats for years about ACC teams doing this

But this is the first time someone's actually gone and done it.
Personally, I like the idea. I definitely like it over playing the likes of Charlotte and Wofford every year. I think it's lousy that we only get to play almost half the teams in the other division once every 6-7 years.
