The NIT is a meaningless relic. There are some situations where it might be warranted. But none apply to us this year.

I agree. I am also a little surprised that advertising partners, folks who paid for media rights, etc are ok with this. But I am sure there is allowance.
My guess is the players did not want to play. Don’t want to risk injury, etc. that said, in my opinion, it just looks bad. Adjectives like spoiled, entitled, etc. comes to mind. Practice, play more games, improve. Is that not what college ball fundamentally is?

Should consider doing that come football season to deny ESPN the games to show until the ACC gets a better deal more in line with the other conferences.

They can get away with it because they are basketball royalty and no one is going to say a thing. I don't know how that would be viewed if we tried it but I can't imagine it would be helpful.
UNC is going to come across like a bunch of spoiled brats who took their basketball and went home. Let them wear that Scarlett letter rather than us.

You guys talking about ‘respecting’ them for taking their ball and going home are laughable.
As usual, UNC thinks they are above something when they are not.
Clemson certainly got the short end of the stick by missing the NCAA, but there’s no reason to turn down the NIT. I suppose some of you wanted to turn down the Cheez-it Bowl too a couple of years ago. Our younger players could benefit from post season play.
Let’s not pretend that most of NIT teams are worse than most of the 10/11/12 seeds in the tournament…not like it’s some sort of huge gap there. The rest of the bubble will be there.

They are embarrassed that they went from preseason number one, with multiple 5 star players on their team, to 1-9 against quad 1 teams and missing the NCAA Tournament.
Their team this year is one of the most underachieving in college basketball history. And I love it.
It is a silver lining on this crappy day.

Yeah…don’t have an issue with it. Not all that much different than players opting out of meaningless bowl games for football. Many of the UNC players have a chance to play at some level beyond college…why risk an injury.
