Why is that weird? He wasn't needed, hadn't been playing, and we were set at WR. There was no need to force him in that game.

He played a few snaps against SMU, and with a couple more weeks, I thought he might take on a bigger role.

Good point. It will be interesting to see his role next year if A Williams leaves or even if A Williams stays.

Where though? Who do we take off of the field to put him on at that point of the season? Wesco? Moore? Williams? The only time he might have gotten on the field was 5WR sets, which we almost never do. When we go empty set, 90% we motion a RB out to WR. So that is RB, Wesco, Moore, Williams, Briningstool. Who do we take out there? IMHO, Brown is just a Williams clone. He does the same thing Williams does, but Williams had turned out to be WR1.

Ideally, quality depth in the WR group is very useful in keeping the legs (and wind) strong among the first string WRs.
In the ideal scenario where Williams returns and both Wesco & TJ Moore stay healthy, each of Cole Turner, Tyler Brown, Tink Kelly / Marquis Henderson, and our new 6’ 5” portal WR Tristan Smith will get some snaps each game. Wesco, TJ Moore, and A.Williams will get enough rest in between deep out patterns to be at maximum speed for pretty much every snap that they are in the game.

They made sure to go easy on him. He’ll be back next season and obviously should pay immediate dividends as another option for Cade.
