Two plays I like from this season (not nec. by CU).

Sep 13, 2013, 3:59 PM

I have seen two plays I like this season and I hope to see us use variations of them over the course of the season.

One is, for lack of a better word, a sideline route to a receiver. Both UGA and Scar used it well against each other. Kinda like a bubble screen, but more down field. A great way to punk Doo Doo.

The other is the quick hitter to the fullback. UGA is the master of this one. But we ran a version of it against UGA. It was with 2 RBs in and a delayed handoff. Right up the middle for big yardage.

As others have noted, as the defenses adjust to our type of offense, underneath passing routes and running plays that take advantage of the spread out defenses will pick up yards or be what the defenses give us.

On another note, Thursday cannot get here soon enough!

I have seen the old 'hook and ladder' run twice this year. I love that play and always have.

"Hook and Ladder" sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard...

to a guy who was once the TE pitchman on the play you reference. It is correctly called "Hook and Lateral" - and more correctly, "Buttonhook and Lateral" or "Buttonhook and Pitch".

My apologies for being picky - I know a lot of sports announcers and even coaches refer to it like it was a fire truck, but it just ain't.

I do agree it's a great play and one I always enjoyed by setting up a CB during a game for epic fail on the play.

I really liked to see our "quick shift" plays.

The one where we lined up in pistol, and shifted down the under center.

And similarly, where we quickly broke the huddle, and snapped the ball within a couple of seconds.

What I'd like to see (among a lot of others)

is some of the delay routes out of the backfield like UGA ran on us. Those were extremely effective and we have the backs that can make it work after the WRs take the CBs deep.
