We DEFINITELY need competitive depth. He might beat out Terrell. Never know until the challenge happens. We have bled pledges to the portal on almost TOO MANY 2025 pledges to lack of spending NIL dollars. 105 scholarships. Give the walk-ons walking papers and add bonafide studs. Never turn down a starter projected to get drafted.

Kid isn’t leaving PSU to be a nice to have depth player. That’s not the way the portal works. It’s not used to build depth.

Who are the elite teams building “depth” through the portal? They’re signing mostly guys who quit their last team because of a lack of playing time. They want a starting position. And of course if it’s a starter transferring he expects to start too.
Do some programs just load up on transfers going some stick? Sure, but that’s different than building depth. Plus I see a lot of teams losing more players to the portal than they bring in. Every year , same in-cohesive change out of players. That’s not building quality “depth” either.
So who are the teams measurably better because they have portal backups?

OL, and regardless, portal kids aren’t moving around to backups. I wish some of you guys would get it through your heads - the portal isn’t somewhere you go to find “depth”. Portal kids are looking to play - that’s why they’re leaving there current school. Teams normally take in portal guys to replace outgoing portal guys.

And outgoing portal guys are guys that were not starting.
The portal is frequently used for depth. Lots of the kids entering the portal are three stars or four stars.
It’s just the five star / four star guys that want to be starters that get all the press.
But lots of other good solid football players in the portal.
