Transfer portal solution

Dec 15, 2021, 11:25 AM

Maybe the answer is to trim the scholarship number from 85 to 65-70. The cat is out of the bag on the portal and nil deals and it’s not going back in by itself. If you cut the guaranteed scholarship numbers it would increase the importance of holding on to one of you have one. Just a thought. I think you also have to have a limit on total team members allowed or the nil deals will pay people to play without a scholarship which allows large alumni base schools to stockpile talent.

"nil deals will pay people to play without a scholarship which allows large alumni base schools to stockpile talent"

This is exactly what the new college football is. The other week a top Texas booster already came out and said it. He said scholarships are the old way. No one cares about them anymore. If your team is stuck on relying on scholarships you soon wont compete.

telling lineman up front at Texas they each will get 50K..

like most everything in our society. Money rules...and in case of college football, large wealthy alumni bases will rule.
Its already happened in college baseball with the endowments that sneak around the scholarship limits
Thanks Mark E for not putting a reasonable approach in place to protect the integrity of the game.
Its the Wild West...and it will just turn into a farm system for the NFL

Ten "low budget" schools could collude. Each outbid a school like Texas AM for 2 of their recruits. Take away their 20 best recruits or players and gut them.

The solution is to require everyone to sit out a year...

You want to transfer? Fine, go wherever you want, but everyone who transfers sits out one year before being eligible to play again.

And you lose that year of eligibility and can’t get paid for that year.

Unfortunately, for the premier player the penalty of sitting out a year does not really matter. In fact the one year that his body is protected might be looked at by NFL as a plus. Baseball pitchers the same way. Possibly other sports as well. For the athlete that needs more experience and playing time you would think it would matter. It is a shame that scholarships do not mean anything anymore.

This is a very messy business now and I know the NCAA had issues but for the student athlete it was so much cleaner before. Maybe not perfect but quite frankly, what is?

The NCAA never once considered the implications...

of this whole $#!7 show !!!

Once elected officials started getting involved, the NCAA reacted out of desperation and didn't take time to assess the long term ramifications.
