A lot of players have already entered, some of which would be impactful players at Clemson next year.
However, Dabo stated that we have to remain at 85 scholarships until July.
Clemson has 84 currently on scholarship, 12 being seniors. We already heard that Walker Parks is returning. Capehart and Tre Williams are two that could potentially return for a 6th year as well. Let's just assume, for argument sakes, that they return.
With 8 seniors leaving, we will be down to 76 scholarships.
We currently have 14 commits, which puts us at 90 scholarships for next year.
That means at least 5 have to transfer out to drop that down to 85. We've had 10 or more transfer out the previous 2 seasons. Let's just assume we have 10 transfer out again. That drops us down to 80.
Are we finally going to do this? Are we going to fill those 5 spots with 5 portal additions or are we going to do what we've always done and fill those spots with late offers to developmental projects.
Because, call me crazy, I just don't believe Dabo is going to sign 20 dudes from the portal in July, one month prior to fall camp starting.

What I’m confused about is why do we have to remain at 85 until July if it’s the off season?
Didn’t we go into spring last year with 87?

Whatever happens, we have to use the portal this year. There is no way around it come July. If Dabo somehow whistles by not using it again and just offers every scholarship to walk-ons, then that's a massive problem and that's when I'll start having thoughts of him needing to leave as much as I'd hate that thought.

In 2 years Clemson will have no depth to speak of if we do not offset this small recruiting class. The portal will give us a chance to compete with out a drop off if it is used properly.

This is my actual fear though.
Dabo can either cut every walk-on, or he can reward them with scholarships.
We have to go from 85 to 105 in July. There will be 30-40 walk-ons still on the team, haven gone through spring practice and summer workouts. Do we really expect Dabo to cut all of them? Because I don't.

We can go up to 105 starting 7-1-2025. Where we gonna fill in the extra 20 scholarships? Hopefully not the local walk ons.

April is the last time guys can enter it but we can pick up inbound transfers any time after that before the fall semester starts.

I dont think Dabo or the staff will go after 20 portal players, it does not fit Dabo's narritive to do so. He will try to fill with recruits and bust hump to get as many HS guys in to fill roster spots before the Feb 7th late signing period. I also feel like we may not lose that many players to transfers and/or choose to enter into the draft. I have no substantiation on this, but my gut feeling is that we wont have as many transfer out as in previous years. I could be wrong, but regardless, I dont see Clemson going full bore into the portal like that. We still have time in recruiting and we still have the Feb 7 late signing period and I fully expect our coaches to hit the road hard trying to fill the roster based on what they know, and think they know about players leaving. I also hope that the above is true as well for stability reasons. I hope we get enough HS guys to fill in most of the roster gaps, but hope Clemson dips into the portal to back fill any roster holes we know we are going to have, like DE, LB and OL this past year.

SEC has already announced they are remaining at 85, at least for this first year. 105 is a roster limit, scholarship or not.
By staying at 85, that's more money for existing players, recruits, and portal targets. I haven't heard any joint ACC policy, but I don't think we'll award 105 scholarships at least this first year.
I see no way we can avoid the portal this year, hopefully for some impact guys and depth as well, as we should have the $$$.
I could guess at some possible transfer outs but that's not profitable IMO. I think some are sure things, buried on the depth chart, including a big name or 2 from past recruiting classes. Some are guys I just perceive the staff is not pleased with, for whatever reason. Others who just have not cut it. I do believe the portal will be flooded with guys this year all across the country.

I made earlier post where a safety from North Dakota St (2023 FCS All-American) was hitting portal for his final season. 6'4, 217 lbs - he's bigger than any guy we got playing position now & w/ not only losing 2 Sr's, but having not commits for 2025 at safety, he'd be a great add & give a stop gap to allow staff to focus on 2026 targets. Addition like that would quiet alot of naysayers

I think finding a replacement for RJ Mickens makes sense. Assume we don't lose anyone...
Khalil Barnes, Sherrod Covil, Kylon Griffin, Kylen Webb, Rob Billings, Ricardo Jones, Noah Dixon and Joe Wilkinson return.
Covil and Griffin are just okay players, IMO. Ricardo Jones showed some flashes this year and I like his upside. Bringing in someone that can start right away makes sense to me. Make Covil, Griffin and Jones have to compete for their spot.

Dabo will keep 1 walk-on per position group. 1 Qb, rb, wr, te, OL, dl, lb, cb, s. And hopefully fill in the rest with transfers. I mean, we just have to do it or it’ll be our death. Right? We have to take transfers.

I want Dabo to bring in 5 STARTER...thats the key word starter worthy transsfers.....that is my homework for dabo this year.....dont overload him with 20.......start small and reasonable.....after he gets his portal feet wet it wont be a big deal.
But certainly no more Paul Tyson type transfers....its just pointless....we all know he brought him in because he's bear bryants grandson and he thinks thats neat a little star on his resume.....problem is, waste of time and doesnt help clemson.......starter worthy transfers only from here on out.
