ESPN reports that college players will be able to opt-in to having their name, image and likeness used in the college football game to come in 2024 through EA Sports:
The partnership will include the chance for all eligible FBS players to opt in to have their likenesses in EA Sports College Football, the representative said. Those players will receive compensation for being placed in the game...
Details -- such as how much an athlete will receive and the structure of payments -- are still being finalized, but the EA Sports representative said the goal is to be "as inclusive and equitable as possible." On the OneTeam website, the company stated that if the influence of individual sales couldn't be figured out -- including for video game licensing -- then "revenue will be divided equally among the athletes included in each licensing program."
If a player does not want to be in the game, EA Sports would create a generic avatar and player in that athlete's place...
At the time, Notre Dame was among a small number of schools that indicated through statements or news reports that it would not agree to participate until NIL compensation was worked out.

I'd pay EA to include me as a player on a roster.

I guess it's a matter of perspective.

I can't imagine a college player opting out of being included in a video game. How cool is that?
Now I can imagine some of them complaining on social media that their stats are too low.

Been a long time coming and I'm glad the draught is almost over for the NCAA Football series (even if it's likely to fall short of the mark -- hopefully the extra time on the game means it'll be above Madden play-wise).
Honestly surprised we never heard of them just asking the players to sign a waiver to be added to the game - heck, I'd say the vast majority of players would sign it no problem.
The only folks that may have a caveat would be the big-name players and, legit with NIL, you could just make them DLC at this point so they get money off those sales.

This, in addition, to Pay-for-Play? Good grief.***

It's about time.
One can argue about player compensation all they want, but no way should a third-party (not the university) be making money off the NIL of an athlete without the athlete getting a cut.

IDK about a WR but I do remember a DB that was a part of the movement -- Darius Robinson
https://amp.foxsports.com/stories/college-football/conferences-deliver-blow-to-ea-sports![]() The Big Ten, Pac-12 and Southeastern Conference are following the NCAA's lead and will no longer allow EA Sports to use league logos in its college football video games.
