Mators are planted

My rule is to wait until April 10th, but put them in today.
Forecast is no more freeze this Spring.
I don't really get a jump start as mators don't take off until the ground temps are above 65.
I probably should have waited.
I mixed dolomite and organic fertilizer in the soil a couple weeks back.

Maybe.
I plant in pots on the dock that gets full Sun all day.
Those are warmer now than the ground.

Being down here in the Charleston area, normally don't do tomatoes since I can drive to the mater shed in Johns Island and get the best tomatoes in the world. But I did bring home two better bush plants and hit the with the miracle grow. I pinched the first yellow flowers that grew and now I'm waiting for them to start putting off crop.

No shortage of excellent (real) mators in Oconee when in season, but I like to grow some every year.

Johns Island tomatoes are the best. Too bad a lot of those tomato fields now have apartments and condos on them.

My brother and sister still live on part of the 10 acres my Dad had on River Road between Maybank and the airport. He told all of us that he would give us an acre if we wanted build a house there. Just didn’t work for me and my career. But I do go visit them often. Now there is a HUGE development across river road where it used to just be wetlands.

What's your secret organic fert recipe, if I may ask..

I like to add kelp and crab/lobster shell meal to the soil. The extra calcium prevents end rot but doesn't mess with soil ph. Chic manure works too.

If near me, Clemson will test your soil and advise what amendments to add. I have done this a couple times, drop off is off W Cherry Rd.
https://www.clemson.edu/public/regulatory/ag-srvc-lab/soil-testing/index.html

Or do this --> just assume your soil to lean acidic and in need of nutrients and a ph boost.
Dolomite is the best amendment.

Gypsum also adds calcium but doesn’t adjust the pH

Rare in UpState SC if your soil PH is not acidic.
If PH is too far off, no matter the composition of your soil, plants cannot absorb the nutrients.

I fear for your maters Tug. We've got the Dogwood Frost coming, the Strawberry Forst coming, all followed by the Blackberry Freeze the first week of May.

My dear-departed Aunt used to tell me..."Boy...don't you plant nuthin' till you see leaves coming on the walnut trees. They will tell you when winter is over!"

They have the flavor of a very sweet, but slightly bitter Cherry Tomato, and the texture of Lobster.

The Guatemalan government hired us to produce Hybrid plants, we are "The Island of Doctor Moreau" for botanists. We also have a Venus Flytrap that can catch and slowly digest monkeys, they are common here and eat our tomatoes.

Unfortunately, our creations will be available everywhere EXCEPT the US.

I put mine out Saturday. Betterboys, heirloom Cherokee purple, heirloom yellow, beefsteaks, and a couple different grape tomato varieties.

I put plenty of marigolds nearby and added the regular annual herbs to my perennial herb garden. I’m really loving my Lemon thyme.

I had to cut back my mint and spearmint. That stuff tried to take over my awesome herb garden!

Any tips for spider mites other than neem oil? I’ve had good luck with been but always have to thoroughly wash my herbs. I’ve tried tea with no real luck. I lost a huge hearty rosemary shrub a couple years back to those pesky mites.

You’re fine. No frost coming. (Knocks on wood). If you aren’t, I’m not!
