Venables still recruiting while in talks with OU.
STOP POSTING ON THIS SITE AND JUMP ON THE NEXT BANDWAGON! Be a critic of decisions on the field, coaching changes, anything football related. But questioning the ethics and class of two men who have been nothing but the very best role models in everything they do? Get out of here.

We have every right to trash Brent, or any coach if he is out recruiting for Clemson while he is in talks with another school about a coaching vacancy. In fact he should probably not have been out on the recruiting trail at all while talking with OU. And if you disagree, then consider it from this perspective. You are a young defensive player with loads of potential that wants to play "under" Brent. Brent comes to visit you wearing Clemson Orange .He is coming to talk to you about what Clemson has to offer, and you are "ALL- IN" and say Clemson is where I want to be, playing "for" Brent. HEADLINES; Brent Venables new Head Coach at OU."OH -NO" Clemson's DC is no longer "ALL -IN". In fact he is "All-GONE". Now what do you do when you realize that he was being "PAID" by Clemson to recruit you for Clemson, but you want to play for "Brent"! So you are incorrect, IMO, in that is has nothing to do with class and ethics. It has everything to do with it. Brent should have taken himself out of the equation until he said "NO" to OU. That would have been both the class act and the ethical thing to do.

I'm sure they were transparent with the recruits. Dabo runs the program the right way. Wes Goodwin was tapped to be the next coordinator for years, Dabo is a smart man.

Totally agree --
Unfortunately, I was not in the room with Brent during those visits; therefore, I have no knowledge of what was / was not said about his OU opportunity.
It sounds like Brent was selling CLEMSON and I believe him. CLEMSON is not the last 10 years of football. It is the Ag school I attended founded in 1889. For me, its Red Parker and Bill Foster thru todays success. Its orange overalls in the 80s. Its Johnstone and walking past the reflection pond on cold mornings.
My heart and head are at CLEMSON; IMHO Brents heart was too. I cannot imagine being offered $7M/year to coach football - so I think his head DID go to OU - and I don't blame him (I only need a couple months at that salary to be set for life).
I think Goodwin is an excellent hire. We've avoiding losing coaches for many years. I trust in Dabo. His management of staff is off the charts. He never wanted this change to occur, he loves his staff, but he was prepared when his staff accepted their next challenge.
Go Tigers! Beat Iowa State!
