He himself must be in a shock with 4 games in. It is just a game - not war. Tiger fans should learn to be nice a bit. On Saturdays TNET is hard to read. How did we become this way !!

It's the new cancel culture. If you don't like what someone does, call for their immediate dismissal. Screw their feelings, their livelihood, or even think about forgiving them for their mistakes. Lord knows those calling for their heads have never made a mistake or come up short on expectations.
Frigging sad.

This is a good sound bite..Dj practicing after the game. But come on ... who out there thinks he's going to acquire the 'it' factor by doing so. You either have it or u don't and everything I've seen of DJ so far tells me he doesn't have 'it.' Sorry, but we need to face reality.

The science does not agree with that statement. The more you practice a movement or action the more repeatable it becomes. Keep throwing big man, it will come.

We've been here before. His name was Kelly Bryant. No amount of practice or playing time was going to turn KB into a top tier quarterback who could lead a team to compete for a championship.

on passes. I can't believe he was recruited as highly as he was if he didn't show that ability. So he has lost it . . scared to death, can't read the field enough for him to be comfortable and make the easy throws? He needs to stay out there all night. I'll have breakfast sent to him around 9AM. Keep working.

There is a such thing as over practicing, and when athletes do that, it doesn't give the mind time to clear/reset, and when that happens, you end up practicing the things that you're practicing to change.

He beat out Bryce Young in state Championship with better stats. Bryce was ranked higher and then fell behind DJU in rankings. Then DJU fid not play in Elite 11 as he wanted to prepare for college. That said, he beat Bryce, he out ranked Bryce Young, and seemed to be more serious about his craft.
If you looked at 2020 performance, DJ was really a stud fo Clemson with Bryce having almost zero play for Bama. So DJ played great last year with phenomenal stats, Bryce Young played much less. But when watching both players this year, you see Bryce that makes some great throws but they are also managing him in the number of throws. That may be an option if you can actually run the ball.
I say this because the past showed that DJU was a better QB and we have created a regression thru some reason. Is it OL, playcalling, sophmore slump, or personal. But while I think he is going to be there and great, we need our coaches to fix his head. Overthinking, under thinking, not thinking, whatever, but DJU is better than our progression. Unfortunately we are loosing players injured at an alarming rate, we are obviously soft this year as we lose 3-4 players every game.
Our losses and lack of game control, we will be a giant underdog to win ACC, but we have the ability.
Today is a good win, we need more cohesiveness.

It looks to me like he is being as tough on himself as anybody else is. He has a lot of natural tools, and there certainly doesn't seem to be a problem with his work ethic. Touch seems to be a problem, but he is trying to improve it.
He may not become the QB that most thought that he would become, but it will not be to a lack of effort on his part. That's all we can ask unless we are going to discuss if he is getting the support in his development from the coaching staff.
I do think that Taisun should get some reps. Not as a punishment for DJ, but as an opportunity for Taisun. DJ has not taken full advantage of his opportunity, so there is room for improvement and should not be limited to the improvement of DJ. I'm not saying that DJ does not deserve to start and get the bulk of the playing time, but there should be an opportunity to play and thereby, earn more playing time for Taisun.

be wanting the guy behind him to play. I don't mind Dabo pulling DJ just to get his attention. But DJ is our best QB player in terms of potential..no doubt in my mind. You saw him play against Notre Dame last year didn't you? He wasn't indecisive, he wasn't slow, he wasn't missing guys.. He's just got the yips right now. And somehow you gotta break him out of it.
One thing he can do is practice hitting his second and third option. If he ever will get where he bounces his eyes or maybe do like deshaun and just have his helmet pointed down the middle of the field instead of right at the guys he's throwing to, then we will see his receivers get open more often. Right now he's getting the ball and looking right at his target until he throws. Thats fixable. That just takes reps and a coach to drill it into him over and over and over.
I still think he can get to that 375 yard per game type QB b/c he's done it before..in a HIGH level game against a high level defense. He's just gotta get over whatever mental hurdle he has going on right now.

from that injury. I believe the coaching staff are still being cautious with Taisun because he needs it. There is no way our team is full of regenerative healing freaks every time a major injury takes place... I believe he's progressing but not quite where he needs to be for live game reps, if we remember, he was moving around in practice but there was no contact on him.

I agree with eveything but the part about us being "soft". That' silly. Otherwise well said... every college in America wanted him and watched him play at a high level in high school. I wonder too if he doesn't have these spooks or the yips or whatever you want to call it. Would he look a whole lot better if he had Hunter Renfrow, Amari Rodgers, Tee Higgins to throw the ball to? We don't have a WR who wants to go across the middle and we don't have anybody who wins 50/50 balls.

Streeter's definitely at fault to some degree. DJ is significantly worse this year against much worse competition than last. Trevor became a worse passer over the years. While he learned the offense better, his passing accuracy regressed every year he was at Clemson. Streeter might just be bad at developing QBs.

but yours is the first comment that I've read outside of my own about that... DJ just might not be the QB we need, but his position coach should be able to manage everything about any QBs mechanics so that they can be their best. Right now, DJ isn't his best, and fixing it starts with Streeter, he's supposed to be his COACH, not seeing much coaching going on in that regard...

Yes young man stay out there all night cause Pete (how many ponies you got Pete) is angry, unhappy, unfulfilled or for whatever reason is not satisfied with your play. You ever played on a college football field. You can’t imagine the speed that the game moves at. It’s not like your birds eye view from you comfy chair. The players are huge and chasing you. Tough to see over them and the crown on the field magnifies that cause the outside receivers are lower that the QB. Add that to the fact that Our Receivers dropped several key balls one being a perfect pass at about the 2. If our receivers make the catches we Probly beat NC State also DJ has work to do but he has the tools to work with. Think we all need to take a break during the open week and lay off the kid.

it's just not as high as it has been in the past. I was on the field in 2019, on the home sideline and I could see that they have minimized it... fields need a crown to not allow rain/water to settle, fields are not completely flat still.

What weapons? Sure he had ETN but WRs were not better. He had Amari Rodgers who was ok (1 reception in 3 games in NFL, 3rd string barely sees the field) and Powell who couldn't beat out any of the receivers we currently have starting and was cut in the NFL preseason and hasn't been picked up by anyone.

Powell and Rodgers could both get open.
Oct 3, 2021, 8:22 AM
|

These guys are mostly stiff, don’t fight for the ball, and can’t get separation. Then they repeatedly drop the ball and let them go through their hands. RB is the only position on O that lives up to the standard. When listing out positions based on being the problem, it’s probably OL, WR, TE and then QB. All of those need work but some need more than others.

Yes, having ETN and Rodgers was huge! They were both EXTREMELY productive college players. Last night DJ didn't even have Ross in the 2nd half.
Having to play Ross anywhere outside of the 9 wide receiver position is on Swinney! We have all of the same type of receiver, but no true slot guy with great speed. This is like having a great OG and having to play him at OT. It might look okay sometimes, but overall is not effective. The transfer portal could have fixed this!

Our recruited slot receiver was Troy Stellato, who for some reason is being red shirted... what is the deal with that?? Shipley was supposed to be able to slide into the slot as well, he's out so why are we holding Stellato? https://youtu.be/qDX1PUQIqQ0

I appreciate the fact he's bothered by his play and wants to address immediately. I'll give him that.
What feels odd is 1) There's a camera in his face documenting this. I understand it's in DV and the lights were on so he might attract a few of the media wrapping up but I would want them filming from a distance. One guy (granted he may be with the team) is kneeling with a camera in front of DJ. To me this feels too staged and not "hey, while the lights are on do you mind catching some balls before we head out?" 2) Hes with a student manager and not a single one of our WRs, TEs, or RBs. Kudos to the manager but begs the question did DJ even ask a player? Does he have that kind of relationship with anyone on team?
What I would love to see is Tajh take DJ under his wing. Help him with the mental part of the game first. How to be a college QB. How to lead your team. How to flush a bad drive or throw so you can move on and get the next one. I feel like there is no one better suited around the program to connect with him. Even though there are mechanical issues going on with DJ, I think 90% is between the ears.

Not wanting to be the negative Nancy, but Tajh seemed to have issues of his own every time he played the boys from Cola. There were a ton of 3 and outs, sacks, etc. I’m not sure he would be the best at providing this guidance. I love Tajh, but think he might be better at providing different assistance to DJ.

Lmao.... wait, let's make sure I get your idea. Your want Tajh Boyd...Mr Deer in headlights on the sidelines himself... that couldn't beat SCar his entire career and lost to FSU 53-12 while running backwards and throwing a pass directly to a FSU DB sideways for a pick six...to take him under his wings? Sure you don't want 3 and out Stoudt to show him how to become GT's MVP of the game with interceptions while you are at it?

Photo Opt moment. Guessing he feels he needs to send someting to his NIL employers. Throwing soft balls to a trainer does what? He would be better off with the old tire swinging from a tree. DJ trying to be MR. J.
His best moments were a 17 yard scamper, (2) 20 yd. throws with some touch, and a 2 yd. run for a first down. BUT then the misses? Everyone watching saw them.

After the game he showed up to practice. He went 12/22 for 217 yards passing, rushed for 32 yards, 1 int and was sacked 3 times during the practice. He is getting better day by day. Its just a joke, I think DJ will get better in the long run. He really does not have any choice with Cade Klubnik coming in next year. He might pull a Hunter Johnson and get beat out and transfer, who knows.

Rumor is that DJ and his receivers almost never threw over the summer compared to Deshaun and Trevor who were out with receivers every day. The results show the rumor to be believable.

Just from that small clip I would say he is working on his mechanics. Trying to get muscle memory of bouncing on his feet to keep his base and ability to move unlike what we are seeing in games where he hits his dropback and stands flat footed.

Yep, he'll figure out he can't beat Cade come January. He won't figure out without an off season of QB camp how to fix his mechanics. But he's at least caring to know he'll lose the job in January, then can go back to CA to worry about his parents divorce.

WIth you. I still don't understand the Streeter fascination. He'll be at CU until they have to replace him. He's not HC material. It worked when all he had to do was 'high 5' Watson and Trevor. You and me could have done that job.

Let Streeter get the sleep. He did not help Clemson get better when he wore the pads and he's not part of the solution now. He got two rings on someone else's coattails, not because of the QB guru-ing he did. The man is qualified to manage players' ticket requests and that's about all.

The comments on this thread are sad...

We are provided with some evidence that DJ is putting in the hard work that Dabo and others say he has been. The immediate response is assuming a lot of negatives about everything from his motivation to his relationships with his WR. How about this... DJ is a kid with some, but not enough, experience who knows he is not playing as well as he is capable of. He's also playing with a bunch of other guys who could say the same. He's being coached by people who could also say that they are not performing at their standard. On top of that there are likely off the field demons playing a role this season. To compound it all... he plays for a fan base where a vocal number of people think that him practicing by himself is a form of showboating or an indication that he has a poor relationship with his teammates.
Best is the standard for fans too. Last night the fans at the stadium performed up to that standard. Then this thread came along and it's quite obvious that some fans need to be reminded of a standard.

What good is "proof" he is great at practicing and sitting in a room staring at film but can't put it together on the field in a real game? Some day, you either learn to be a player when the lights are on, or just a practice guru.

He seems to “get it” being Clemson QB & philosophical rant…
Oct 3, 2021, 9:02 AM
|
|
…to see this commitment.
I’m pulling for this young man in a serious way.
That back shoulder throw to Ngata was a thing of beauty, and that is so much on Ngata, it was sickening to have that happen to DJU.
Amari, Hunter, Tee…that throw is caught and the game is OVER.
Having said these words of praise for DJU…the dedication must TRANSLATE into performance.
Now for a PHILOSOPHICAL rant…
American football to me exemplifies that essence of high performance across a spectrum of human qualities, e.g. mental, physical, grit, excellence, determination, integrity, leadership.
These are reasons I love watching this game so much, and in a completely self-serving manner, the Clemson Tigers.
CDS converted me early on when I was quite skeptical of the choice to make him the HC at Clemson. IMHO, CDS exemplifies all of this and more.
It is another reason that I feel American Football can serve as a model for other life skills and endeavors that require endurance and that “never give up” mentality.
We’ve listened and learned from CDS that “Best is the standard”, and that is one of the reasons that this board becomes so emotional and invested in the performance of the Clemson football team.
I’m not of the mindset that CDS is “complacent”. Seriously, I just don’t see this in his nature.
But, I think that DJU would be well served diving deeper into the foundational aspect of PERFORMANCE on the field AND DEMANDING a HIGHER level of performance from his teammates. T Brady can teach a lot about that. I also agree that the coaches are also involved in “putting the players in a position to win.” That did NOT happen on that last series last night.

I certainly don't see complacency with Dabo. It seems to me that he is extremely stressed. The butt chewing that Pace got seemed to me to be excessive, as did the rant with the referees. I'm not saying that either was not a reason for him to be upset. It just seems like he is feeling the pressure and taking some things to extremes.

Have you ever seen a golfer finish the 18th hole, do an interview, stop in the clubhouse for a sandwich and then head to the driving range for an hour? Of course you have. Or maybe you've done it yourself. Sometimes an athlete wants to work on his issues immediately so he can work on the muscle memory part of it. You want to feel good about your swing before you leave the facility. So I think DJ throwing is a good thing. If it was staged it is a bad thing and I guess I'm gullible I did not consider that. Hopefully it wasn't staged... And this is just the type of dedicated student-athlete we recruit. I'll keep thinking that until somebody is different. Go DJ. Go Tigers.

If you look at the passes in the clip, the student is just 10 yards from DJ, there’s no pressure, and DJ’s passes should be perfectly on the money every time ... but they are low ... out front ... high ... and just a couple right on the money.
If he’s tired and can’t make a perfect throw down the field in this “session” and can’t muster up close to the focus he should have in a game, what’s the purpose of this photo op? Doesn’t really seem spontaneous and that DJ is getting much out of the “extra practice”.

I’ve really tried to see what all the hype about DJ being great can possibly be about… but frankly he is pitiful! He needs to do more than practice throwing … He can’t read a defense, doesn’t move well, apparently has no vision down field AND from what I can see doesn’t relate well to his teammates. In short needs to be benched until he can play the position he was highly recruited to play.

Yall gotta lay off DJ. He did good.
Oct 3, 2021, 11:28 AM

IMO he didn't have a bad game yesterday. Yall have gotten too focused on him and aren't seeing the field. Every QB has misses, drops, and throwaways but now yall wanna blame him for ever one. IMO our WR's were the cause of problems last night. I feel like they're the group missing focus. Several big plays were bust because WR's couldn't make routine catches. DJ was 13/28 which is terrible but WR's dropped at least 5 passes and had 5 more where the defense got their early (with no call) and they should have been able to fight through and get 1-2 of them.
Go rewatch the game. I took a second look at it this morning. He did not have a bad game. Outside of the no call on what looked like offsides by our corner blitz the refs ###### us the most last night. The WR's were the second biggest issue. Myles Murphy alone got tackled like 4 times by the LT he was pancaking and refs acted like they never saw it. Besides that DB's were constantly holding or getting to the WR 1/2 step early with nothing. Ngata had a great catch after a corner TRIED to tackle him and refs didn't see ####.
We had more bad play calls (which are expected) than DJ had bad plays.

Good that he is making the effort to practice, just hope he is not continuing to practice bad habits. Tajh, DW4, and Trevor all had professional QB whisperers that they worked with. Does he? If not why not? If so, where are they? Past time to spend some of that NIL money to get some professional help to work on your trade.

Unless you’re continuing a bad habit. Then you’re just getting cementing that bad in. But I give props to him for the work. But , one thing I have been wondering, (because of the drops , receivers not blocking and the o being out of sorts. ) how does he get alone with the rest of the team. I find it strange that not one receiver wanted to practice, not one running back? Has the team lost focus? Or does the team not like him? Look no further than FSU . A couple bad eggs and the team nose dived. I hope I’m over thinking this. But we’ll see. GO TIGERS!!!!

He should be working on his running too. A QB his size should not go down so easy, think of big QB's like Vince Young or even Cam. The QB run was open many times last night. He acts like he doesn't want to get hit. Really question his confidence level, determination, and will to win on the field. Just doesn't portray command like Trevor or Deshawn.

It's sad that a young man is out there after 1 am trying to get better and all people can do is bash him. When y'all have a bad day at work do you stay after and try to get better or do you punch out and go home to your family? The same ones that are bashing him now were probably the ones touting him for Heisman this year. I can assure you no one wants to win more than him. He showed last year that he can play. There is just something a little off this year. I think he is pressing too much and overthinking. Hopefully, he will use this off week and get things settled down. As much as I love my Tigers, I think it would be great if he got settled in this week and comes out playing like he did last year. Run the table with a little help (NC State losing) and win the ACC. Then in epic fashion enter the transfer portal and head back out west!!! Meanwhile, Cade Klubnik who hasn't signed to play here yet decides to play elsewhere!!!

No one is upset with any individual player..but as a lifelong CLEMSON fan..going thru the decades...Clemson has now set a standard for which they SHOULD BE HELD..when you have COACHES being paid the amount of money the staff is currently being paid..the amount of resources the community and alumni are committing..it is simply not exceptable the product that has been placed on the field this year...the play calling is horrendous..the mistakes are simply high school "ISH".. It would not be excepted at BAMA..or Georgia..or Ohio State..if we are going to compete... CLEMSON cannot except it either. The first thing period..is play calling..WOW..JUST ATROCIOUS..and I love CLEMSON..have a great week all..GOD BLESS

We, as a whole nation, has lost toughness. Everything becomes a pat talk no matter how bad is the performance. I have seen this in middle schools, high schools, and colleges. The reason is that younger generations cannot keep up with the previous standard anymore. So the pat talk is the only option left to make everyone feel good.

Notice that no on on this team is taking shots at anyone else. A band of brothers. We can learn from them all. I for one appreciate this attitude in the face of adversity.

DJU's real talent is manipulating the emotions of coaches, recruiters, media and (some) fans.
His people skills > His football skills
