A tough spot to open at. I think they ate the “rat poison” of being preseason top-5. Hopefully they have now woken up and will have a hugely successful season.

Hope this was a wake up call. Offense and defense was really bad.

I’m not sure it was “rat poison”. You are replacing your four best players pretty much at every level along with one being your local team leader. I’m pretty sure the team knows it will take some time to gel but the freshman are talented. We will be fine by end of the season.

That was brutal. We got run right off the pitch. Need to regroup quickly.

Our press writers are the best in the biz at spinning a story. "Ran out of time "... no, we got run off the pitch. Scoring our own goal really was a momentum killer. But we looked like the football team did in the Duke opener last year.
I do wish they'd have explained why their 2nd goal wasn't offsides. But hopefully that's a good teachable moment for our players too.
Eddie's right, one game, and it matters not whether we lose by 4 or 1. Go Tigers!!!

Yeah..."following a tough battle" kind of jumped out at me in the article's opening as being somewhat too optimistic.

I guess the glass is half full for me. Holding the ball 2/3 of the game and being unable to find the net is not being overmatched and run off the pitch. 4-0 is bad, but we had plenty of opportunities and will have them going forward. I would expect a different result were we to play in a couple months.

Would have been nice if somewhere in the article the word Soccer was used. If not for the photo it could have just as easily been lacrosse

drop may not be the right word when one of the 4 goals is one you scored on yourself

No way to spin it....losing 4-0 wasn't close or tough

You got outplayed.
This group is definitely gonna have their work cut out for them. The #5 ranking might've been a bit too high.

Not a top 5 showing. Lots of work to be done.

I, for one, would appreciate it if your headlines would provide incite into the sport and then whether it's men's or women's. I dislike having to scan the article to determine whether or not I care about reading it. But I suppose "click bait" applies to TigerNet the same as the rest of the field journalism.

Was Auburn ranked? If not, they will be next week. Go Tigers(Clemson) 🙂

not a good first game

and I went to the game vs High Point and there were a few concerning signs. This team will need to learn how to replace to missing pieces from last year's team quickly.

I watched highlights of the High Point game

Lots of missed opportunities to take shots on goal. Whether too tentative, or trying to be too selfless and give the shot to someone else, or what - looked like we lacked some aggressiveness when we have opportunities. If you've got A shot - take THE shot!
But also, the High Point keeper had some great saves. Gotta give her credit for that.

yeah those were the troubling signs

tentativeness around goal. But also High Point had a few surprising breaks on our defense and actually had a few decent chances thanks to some backline breakdowns. Can't have that against better teams
