This is why it's important for fans to not go all in on these transfers. Wideman will never step foot on the diamond as a Clemson Tiger...same with Kilby and Frusco...the MLB draft decimates college baseball.

I really liked Wentworth. Hate he left.

Frusco there’s still a chance he’s not highly ranked, but if a team was able to save early on picks and throw a bonus way over slot to him… see ya

I wouldn't say it decimates college these days with the advent of NIL. College now has a better chance with lower drafted kids. Its actually better now than in the past. College baseball on the field has never been better. Off the field is a different subject.

this isn't 2010, the trend has been more and more kids going the college route

and NIL and the House settlement will only make that more the case. Yes we could lose a player or players but the guys have to be drafted pretty high this day and age to be swayed to the minors unless he just doesn't want to go to college at all

Once again we'll get screwed over in the draft with our top prospects

It seems like we always sign these guys like Kilby, Dillon Head, Carter Kieboom, etc. who are trending like college players and then they blow up in April, May, June of their senior year and end up getting drafted. I mean you sttill have to recruit them and sign them and pray for the best, but it's a bummer that Kilby and Wideman probably never step on the diamond for us.

IT HAPPENS TO EVERYBODY. NOW AND AGAAIN YOU GET KIDS THAT WOULD RATHER DO YHE COLLEGE EXPERIENCE. YOU RECRUIT THEM, THEN HOPE FOR THE BEST. PROBABLY A LITTLE EASIER NOW WHEN THEY CAN GET PAID AND GO ON FULL SCHOLARSHIP. BUT DO NOT THINK WE ARE THE ONLY SCHOOL EFFECTED BY THIS.

Absolutely happens to every school. We don't recruit enough of those kids to where we end up with a few that do want college. That's the difference between us and an lsu and others.

So we either recruit more, or be world class at spotting the tweener, or go the route it seems coach has taken, portal heavy.

Yeah it happens to everyone, but it's just more of a bummer when it's the kids you weren't expecting. I think it's a bit different if you have a guy committed that's like a top 10 prospect, not a guy who was in the 100s and has slowly creeped up into the 1st round discussion.

Like Tennessee has about 6 guys that are signed that they will lose to the draft and the probably sign them with the hopes that even just 1-2 make it to campus but in all likelihood they won't.

Kilby looked pretty good unfortunately. Hits were consistently above 100mph exit velocity and even hit a few homers; his only 'bad' swings were pop ups. Fielding, he looks really good, only booted one ball going to the glove side. Commentators did note he has had shoulder injuries, so SS might not be his final home on the diamond. They said CF or 2B are more likely spots to preserve his arm for a longer period of time, similar to Theo Gillen in last year's draft. I don't think it's enough to drop his draft pick, but it is worth noting.

Ryan Wideman just threw a ball from the OF at 100mph. Averaged upper 90's on throws with effort, would be the best arm by far if he made it to campus next year.

There is zero shot wideman makes it to campus. I don’t care how much NIL money we have to throw at him, it ain’t gone be as much as the amount he’d lose by staying in college another season versus going pro

I agree, it sucks that he won't make it. The only downside to his game is his chase rate. I don't know how much better it would come out for him if he came back and tried to fix it. We struggled with strikeouts last year, so I don't know what benefit Clemson could have in that regard.

Wideman maxed out with a 110 exit velo, sat mostly around 101-103.
