I'm sure Dabo explains to these guys that entering the portal that there is no guarantee that another team will recruit you. Now coming from Clemson they're bound to land somewhere but it's not promised. These guys with little to no experience that couldn't get on the field take a real chance entering the portal. We need to get back to the days where people actually stick with their decisions. Let's face it, most kids that leave Clemson are never really heard from again. There's a reason you're not on the field at Clemson so thinking you are going to leave Clemson and find a place that just magically puts you on the field is asinine thinking. I guess in a twisted way the portal is good bc it weeds out the guys that aren't all in but let's be honest this catering to the players manure is getting old. It's time to get back to the days where your word means something. Right now we are teaching kids to quit bc it's just too hard to get on the field here.

Pretty soon fans aren't even going to know who is on the team bc the whole roster changes every year with guys transferring in and out. Ridiculous.

Likewise, I’m pretty sure Coach Swinney explains to the fans every year that just because we’ve got a top ten recruiting class, a bunch of 5* etc. that doesn’t guarantee Clemson is going to be in the CFB playoffs every year. Personally, I’d like to see a fan transfer portal! Either you’re ALL IN or get out. I had to quit reading all these experts commenting on here, some of whom have probably never played a down of football and/or never coached even a little league team. Furthermore all these little league coaches commenting on her about what Dabo should do or what play TE should call have no idea. Even Nick Saban doesn’t know whats best for Clemson unless he’s been to Clemson’s practice everyday and knows what Clemson’s players can and can’t do. So you may ask why am I on here now? I figured after that thrashing we gave the coots last week all y’all fence straddles would be back on board. Like I said, get ALL IN and let the coaches coach or get in the fan transfer portal. All I know is that it sure is good to be a CLEMSON TIGER! 30-0

Wow, not sure what prompted this. Most all the comments were positive and wishing the kid well. I guess you intended on responding to Aiden.
I'm certain that Dabo and every FB coach consults with each transfer. Wouldn't be too good a coach if they weren't honest with them. Dabo gives each kid equal opportunity. Even lays out a plan on what they need to accomplish in order to get on the field. Probably moreso than most coaches. That said, this portal mess is creating a roster management nightmare for every coach.

Yeah, sorry for the rant. Hadn’t been reading comments for a while because of all the negativity towards the coaches. Transfer portal triggered it I guess. Good luck Ray. Hope things work out for you.

Negativity on this site has kept me away also...
I don't like the transfer portal, but if we take off the "orange glasses", I think it's safe to assume most programs aren't run as morally sound as ours. Is it fair to hold a young man in a place he isn't happy or might be treated with bias?
I have been in bad working situations in my life that I was eager to get out of, but don't think that means I "jump ship" quickly. I have never worked for a company less than 10 years. (part-times excluded) I have always tried to weather the storm and correct/address issues, but I have never been "trapped" at a job and don't think these young men should be either.
Sure, this will lead to some players using the portal to switch teams every year, but Dabo and company do a great job recruiting talent AND character. We will be fine. Go TIGERS!

I know one Gamecock fan that is a Georgia fan this year. At least he dons their shirt.
I told him of the guy I worked with during the Bobby Bowden run. He wore a Fla. St hat during football season, a Duke hat during basketball and a Yankees hat during baseball. This was in Durham however.

I couldn’t disagree more. College is a stepping stone to the nfl. Think of it as a job. Is anyone telling you, you can’t move to a better job. I’m different but I love the portal. I think it is a step in the right direction for these young athletes. They don’t deserve to have to ride the pine for 4 years and lose their shot at the nfl. He may get picked up and hit it off, you just don’t know. I like the portal.

+1 Sad but true. The only alternative is use the portal or oversign each year. I'd advise any coach they may as well sign 25 every year... Because it's not stopping anytime soon.

Hate to lose a quality player like Ray, but I imagine he wants more playing time. Glad he at least waiting until the regular season was over. Best of luck to him!

Thank u Ray for choosing Clemson, good luck to a great future.
At least it’s good timing for us to still recruit or use the portal.

Don't these guys entering the portal realize that there are seniors leaving, therefore, there would be more opportunities next year for playing time?

I'm glad these young men in NCAA have choices. Regardless of the outcome they are adults and if coaches can leave when ever they want (OU head coach) then the players can too. Because the coaches committed to these young men that they would be there to coach them.... But its business for them... Well its business for the players too. Its the American way. FREEDOM!
