Listen when you work for CBS (or at&t) there's a certain level of intoxication required to handle all the lies you are contractually required to speak as fact on a daily basis. Ms Salee obviously took the Lou Holtz dose. And perhaps a fireball chaser after. Then tequila.

We’re riding the respect train. No doubt about it. How many times did a blue blood hold a spot that we deserved due to name recognition?! Glad the shoe is on the other foot. Our elite defense IS elite at times. It’s also pedestrian at times. Our offense is painful to watch. It’s like a train wreck happening in slow motion and you can’t look away. That said, we’re still better than average and when DJ plays well, he’s pretty good. Not elite. He’s hit his ceiling. That ceiling is probably not high enough to knock off Mack Brown and company in Charlotte. I’d love to be wrong. I’d love to see DJ play to the hype that proceeded him. Make a run and win the Natty again. I think I have a better to chance to win the powerball. Doesn’t change my love for our Tigers. I’ll be in Lot 5 tomorrow with 100,000 of my closest friends drinking scotch and eating bbq & brisket from the smoking pig. Got Tigers!

I think a more accurate assessment would be that it's legitimate to question our ranking, but he's over simplifying it. He clearly has a pretty simplistic an unintelligent manner of assessing things to simply waive off NCS and FSU as w/o much import. NCS had Leary, FSU is good, and our overall SOS compares pretty solidly w/ much of our competition in the rankings.
If he had simply made the case that we were overrated a few spots, that would be one thing. But he reduced the entire analysis to us being ranked there solely for brand recognition purposes. I don't deny that is likely a factor, but he's a fool to think it's that factor and nothing else.

We are what we are...a really good team with several flaws...who has only one loss, on the road against what the CFP committe thinks is a top 20 team at night in our worst game. Nothing wrong with putting a team with that resume at 9.

There probably is some truth in the theory that we are riding the respect train. But we earned it since 2016, at least. We know what the major problem on offense is—a quarterback (decent guy, yes) who cannot perform at the elite level. But it is the inconsistency of the defense that continues to puzzle. After all, we have players on the defensive line who will go high in the NFL draft. I think it is a coaching/motivation issue. I still wonder if Goodwin is up to the job. You KNEW who was in charge when Brent Venables was there. He is a fine man, a fair man, but he also instilled fear. You have to do that with these kids. There is a great scene in the baseball movie “Bull Durham”. Kevin Costner plays an aging catcher who is assigned to the Durham minor league team, and what he finds is a bunch of kids who are goofing off, and the team is losing all the time. The manager asks him, what can I do to motivate these players? Costner says (and I paraphrase), “Easy. Scare the hell out of ‘em. Wait until they are all in the shower, then walk in there chewing them out and throw a bunch of bats at their legs.” Well, it worked. They began to take the game seriously, and they began to win. Obviously, at the pro level that is not something you do with highly paid grown men. But guys, at the college level, most of the players are kids! Coach Goodwin, please throw some bats! (You can get ‘em in the equipment room at Kingsmore Stadium nearby).

While we are benefitting from past heroics, I have to point out that the sec benefits more than anybody. Nobody gets more benefit from conference affiliation than they do, all season long. True they do have a couple of very good teams each year, but much of the conference is pretty average. Each year the espn pundits play them up, and they have the microphone. In the end it’s like a bunch of little chihuahua wannabes clinging on to old Spike.

Oh, he also is an Awbarn graduate. That could explain some of the Dabo hostility, he got tired of us beating them.
Further, he used to be the SEC Lead Writer on Bleacher Report. So, yet another example of SEC bias.
Other than that, he's probably just your garden variety Moran.

Barrett is full of crap, and here's why . . .
Nov 18, 2022, 10:55 AM
|
|
1. Who has proclaimed officially, from on high, that the "eye-test" is a criteria of the CFP? I know there's subjectivity allowed in the process, so there's no doubt the eye-test is a factor, but from whence comes this authoritative statement that "eye test is part of the selection criteria for the committee. It's not. That's never been the case. It's a factor in the mix of subjective allowance, but it's not "a criteria." Bull crap Barrett!
2. "A remarkably average **NOW** #24 NC State team. Yeeeaaah . . . so he's just gonna ignore that NCS was a categorically different team with Leary, who Clemson played and held in check. Kiss off, barrett!
3. "What's Clemson's signature win other than 19th ranked Florida State?" (First, see #2 above) Oh, barrett, I see you're one of those small-minded reductionist simpletons who can't discern the middle ground between a bottom-feeder and a playoff contending powerhouse. You can't see that FSU at 7-3 is maybe not top 10, but also not nothing, and that Tallahassee is a rough environment whenever FSU has **any** life at all.
4. "Clemson is in the top 10 solely due to brand recognition. That's it." Bullcrap, Sally [sic], you dolt! Maybe Clemson is ranked too high. That's arguable. Frankly I'm not sure at this juncture, but if you think it's solely about brand recognition, and nothing else - that there's not even a shred of evidence that they belong at the tail end of that range, then you're a moron, or dishonest. Or both.

We have been waiting all year for this team to put it all together. I actually think we will, starting Saturday. We’ll win convincingly from here on, including the ACC championship game with UNC. Then all of this blather that some analysts and some of us have been indulging in will be long forgotten. And remember, we may THINK we know what all is going on with this team, its players, its coaches, the mood in the locker room. But in fact we don’t. We are observers, not coaches and players. Dabo has put together a great program and our record since he took over speaks for itself. We owe him the benefit of the doubt. Among his greatest traits are to stay positive, to never make excuses, and to accept his role in a defeat like the one at Notre Dame. He cares about these kids. He feels enormous responsibility to set a good example for his players. Go Tigers!

Does he say Bama and USC are ranked on ‘brand recognition’?
Nov 18, 2022, 11:10 AM
|
|
If you look at results, rankings and consider things like the NCSU QB getting injured after playing us….I’ll put our resume up against the teams ranked right around us, ahead and behind.
Is he willing to acknowledge that our wins over NCSU, Louisville and FSU were not as close as the final score indicated? Because that is the case.
We are 9-1. Literally the number of P5 teams that are undefeated or have 1 loss is 8. The top 4…Tennessee, USC, UNC and us Our schedule, despite the narrative, is actually decent when you look at it. Our loss to Notre Dame is not any worse than LSU’s loss to Tennessee (at home!) at this point, but apparently that isn’t a problem for them, nor is their loss to FSU, who we beat on the road. UNC may beat us (I don’t think so) but if you examine their schedule…they have a bunch of very close games that they escaped…because they can’t defend and just have to win shootouts. At this point, our resume is way ahead of theirs and we should be ranked ahead of them.

These remarks are typical of CBS commentary. If Clemson was in the mighty SEC with wins over such fodder as Vanderbilt, Missouri, Texas A&M, and South Carolina, he’d be singing a different tune. Seems to me all CBS remarks are totally slanted. I see he didn’t care to mention that the same FSU team that Clemson beat, was the one that handed LSU a home defeat earlier this year. Yeah, that LSU team that is somehow rated above Clemson.

You have pointed out the biggest example of a "Big Name / Big Reputation" Michigan team as being undeserving of their lofty CFP standing.
They beat Penn State ... props for that victory over what's now an 8 - 2 team.
They've beaten no other team with a pulse.
Maybe they'll be exposed against a respectable Illinois team (which is ~ as good as the no-Leary NC State team or the when-he-is-able-to-play Schrader Syracuse team).
(At least when OH State flushes Michigan down the toilet on Nov. 26, we can then see if the Michigan reputation still covers up that turd of an 'elite' 2022 team.)

At least Bama played very close in losses to both LSU and Tennessee.
Michigan hasn't played anyone decent except for a (legitimately good) Penn State team.
Let's see if Michigan gets dropped out of the Top 10 after OH State buries them. (I doubt it.)

The bucknuts aren't much better... struggled at home against ND (when ND was struggling) and a win over the same PSU team.... other than the lions the only Big 10 team they have played that is over .500 is Iowa (6-4) and they nearly lost to a 1 win Northwester team. Why are they number 2 again?
Clemson has played 2 teams all year that are under .500

Mr. Sallee obviously has a click-bait approach to journalism. Anyone who watches enough college football, even the schools that are considered top ten, watch teams that have multiple failures during anyone game that could be picked apart. In the pros, it’s every game. Just rewatch the Tom Brady eventual win from last Sunday in Germany. When managing a football game live, it takes incredible skill and decisive decision making to get the wanted result, which is winning the game. All the “Sallee’s” out there need to observe and report how the team achieved that goal, and how the team recovered from some bad plays and managed to win the game, not pick apart the negatives that are part of the process. When a team wins, give them their due. When a team wins consistently as much as Clemson wins, they deserve a status according to that history.

$crew that guy, but he’s not wrong..
Face it, as long as DJ is our guy, this is going to be our identity.. we are beyond anemic with him under center. It is what it is, and Dabo has dug his heels in on change.

Now apply the same to the 2-loss teams in the top 15.
Throw in So Cal v UNC in there too.
Nothing will add up. It is what you want to make of it.

if any other team in the ACC, or the country for that matter, were 9-1 w/ that sole loss being to ND at ND... no one would question it. have we looked good? absolutely not.. but, we're 9-1. ya know.. minus 3 plays in that ND loss (blocked punt/DJ pick6/Cade's INT inside our own redzone), and we could be an undefeated team that hasn't looked good.
but, the bottom line is that the "experts" have a job to do... get you and me reading and talking.. the end.

USC Trojans are definitely overrated at this point
Nov 18, 2022, 6:23 PM

And no one seems to be talking about USC (The Trojans), They have played one ranked team to date and lost that game. And most of the the rest of the the teams they have played have sub 500 records. How are they ranked where the are if not for Brand Recognition?
The next few games will give them the chance to prove themselves or fall by the wayside.

The two most overrated teams are LSU and Bama- both two loss teams who at times have failed the eye test miserably.
If the ACC is weak- how did the third place Atlantic team beat the SEC West Champs. LSU was also blown out by TN. TN took two overtimes to beat a middle of the Acc Coastal team. Also looked terrible in the cold last week at Arkansas.
Bama has two losses and barely squeaked by an A&M team that had won 3 games and a middle of the Big 12 TX team. From an eye test perspective, the only thing that flashes for Alabama is Young and Anderson. This is the most average team talent wise that Bama has out on the field in years. And like Clemson, a lot of those players were four and five stars out of high school. I am not sure KoolAide could cover a good high school receiver.
Salee is ok to listen to on Sirius XM but he is an SEC homer to the core. He went to Auburn but is a Georgia Fan.

Clemson is easy to pile on...everyone does cause we are in the acc...talk about overrated...not just name or conference but voting power...talk about lovers lately...Texas amu, USA, Louisiana, anyone in the sec...how good do you have to be to beat tamu, chics, Misery a pen full of hogs ,two sets of drunks till just recently...how long have Nebraska, Wisconsin, and Michigan been overrated ! Ratings are most often confused with a `Christmas` wish list. We are also very often wishing...we just have little pull with the football GODS!

Sallee has been very fair to Clemson

In the past. He is the only one that predicted Clemson to win in Tampa and Santa Clara and always explained it well. His comments about UNC look wrong now, but he's not always negative on clemson.
