The fact that he came on as a preferred walk-on tells me that we have more recruiting to do yet in this cycle. I'd love for us to get another top 10 recruiting class. Go Tigers!!!

I would like to see us in the top 10 but you know we are going to get there with quanity and not quality. Our average has been dropping with each committment. I also know that some of these players will turn out to make some big plays for us in the future.

The kickers are always rated low, but they are huge contributors to the team. Some of these other 3 star players will develop into good players for us too.

Stressing over the “ranking” of our class is a waste of time
Jan 27, 2022, 12:54 PM
|
|
When we only had 12 signed, we were among the “top five” in per-player average.
Now we have more players and we’re creeping up into the “top ten” overall but our per player average is going down.
Bottom line ... who car s?
if these guys can play ball, we will continue to be a strong program.
If they can’t, we won’t.
Any way we slant it, we owe all we value right now as a program to Dabo Swinney. If he suddenly doesn’t know how to assemble a coaching staff and recruit a team, we as a fan base are SOL.
I think this class is just fine in all aspects. We have a solid core of top rated talent at positions of need including the crucial QB position and were filling in around the edges with guys who have potential and we have time to let them mature.
If we’re Clemson fans, we have to trust the guy who got us here. We have no choice. We can voice our opinions on a fan web site, but our opinions are worth absolutely nothing regarding future success.
I trust Dabo ... because I’ve seen what we were before he showed up and what we’ve been since.
Go Tigers! 100% All In!

several scholarship players over the past week or so with potentially more to come. Those count toward the ranking and will bring it up even though they may be “only” 3-star recruits.
We will end up with a Top-10 recruiting class for 2022 for whatever that is actually worth.

This is a HIGHLY underrated comment in my humble opinion. The inbound punter has been touted as likely the best in the nation this year, and the PK up there as well. A solid place kicker being needed is a given, but I dare say a great, flip the field type punter is something ALL programs would love to have. Like all those Colquitt boys that played at UT. Dudes always seemed to flip the field putting opponents on the 15 or so. That to me is JUST as valuable as a 4* DT. Just my .02 cents. Punters, no one cares until it's 4th and long. Go Tigers!

Why refer to the UT punters? Remember Dale Hatcher? Was Hatcher the punter that hit the gondola at the Superdome, or was that a different Tiger punter?

If we have learned anything about Dabo over these past 12 years as our HC, he don't care about ranking numbers. He has always done what he feels will be the best for his team, and other peoples thoughts on ranking won't sway his decisions one bit!!!

Thinking same thing, and being the younger brother of a power 5 QB, will probably be all the insensitive he will need to work harder than any other QB in the QB room. Personally, I'm glad that he accepted a walk on deal at Clemson bc we all know that the QB room could get a serious shaking up here in the very near future, especially if Klubnik was to beat out DJ as the starter. Even if Cade doesn't beat DJ out by the start of 2022 season, there will be I feel, a short leash on DJ, and if Cade was to take over as our starting QB the way that Trevor did, DJ I feel would go to the portal, and I would hate to be in the very same situation as we were in last year if DJ would have went down at any time of the season.
Welcome to Clemson university Caleb Nix, work hard every single day, and you may get a chance to shine as a Clemson Tiger QB!!!!

Cade is unlikely to back up DJ for two years, and DJ is unlikely to be ready for the NFL after 2022 season. Something will give. Someone will leave. And Nix is a strong PWO to have on the roster.

Always that’s a real poor way to look at this grey shirt and why Dabo takes players. Do a little retrospective review and get back to us. Doubt I’ll see you on game day and that is ok by me.

Yeah, it is getting crowded. We'll likely have some transfers after spring but I hope not. And Hunter Johnson kinda coming in as a GA which will be good.

Hunter Johnson came back with the hope of a GA spot, but don't think for a second that he plans to lay down and leave the Quarter Backing to the other guys in that room. HJ will be out there working to take over as the QB if that chance opens up!!!

I know he was highly touted, but the guy makes some good throws. Maybe a bit of a wind up sometimes, but he hits the dime one some outside throws, impressive.

The guy may be an all purpose ballplayer. Charlie Waters came to Clemson as a quarterback, played wide out, and ended up an all pro safety as a Dallas Cowboy..

He does, and most of the guys coming on now, will have to beef up. It is uncommon, though, for any h.s.er to be at college"ideal weight".

about how Auburn treats their “Legacy Players” from his Big Brother . . . and his Daddy/HS Coach . . . Both of whom I assume are good with Caleb’s decision!

His dad is a coach - I think it says a tremendous amount about the value of getting to learn within Dabo’s system. Probably the same reason people like Rex Ryan and Kirk Herbstreit had kids at Clemson.

I understand that but none of the 5 schools recruiting him would have benefited him monetarily. The only benefit he would have gotten is free tuition and room/board. Plus a chance to play more often. I do not (and could be wrong) see him beating out DJ or Cade anytime. Maybe he will transition to another position, who knows.

Will be refreshing to add a few more QBs in the room with wheels. Have to have them to be successful in this specific offense.

Of course, this isn't an Auburn board.
But Auburn ... whew, they've got more defections than UNC had fake degrees.
And for whatever happened for Bo Nix to portal-out of Auburn (maybe the coaches told Bo that his ~ 6'7" QB teammate was sure to be 2022 season's starter), between existing players portalling-out and losing recruits, it's been a 'get out the popcorn' reality-show down there on the plains.
Now Baby Bro' Nix (who is undoubtedly a fine athlete, and about the same size as UGA's Stetson Bennett) comes to Clemson as a walk-on.
Clearly Clemson has done better despite numerous assistant coach departures than has Auburn as far as program stability.
OK, enough of my rambling about Auburn and back to All Things Clemson (as it should be!).
