2022 was the fist year we didn’t get one of the top RBs
Jun 7, 2022, 3:46 PM
|
|
2021 Shipley 2020 Bowman 2019 Mellusi 2018 Lyn J 2017 ETN 2016 Feaster
And so on…. Don’t be short sighted, he get one of the top guys every year. All of them are top 250 players, minimum 4 stars and top 7 at the position in their classes.

This kid may be fantastic. But, just on General's

Principle, wouldn't it be great to get one of those 6'3" - 235 Derrick Henry type monsters out of Bama that keep showing up on Saban's team? Just once?

I never said it wouldn’t, but we’ve done great with what we’ve gotten over the years, and the ones we missed on ahead of some of those guys were more like Richard Young this year or Zamir White (as I best recall) never the monsters Bama gets, so maybe it’s a philosophical approach to how we would use them. That said, Kobe is in that mold, so what do I know.

For people unfamiliar with Alabama, they may think that Vizzina and Cobb have been playing against lesser competition because they are in the private school league. In fact, in Alabama, the 5A private school league is the top competition. We are blessed to have Vizzina and Cobb would be a great addition to our incoming team, which seems to be shaping up well.

Helps to have reputation of churning out guys

At a position. We have/had a recent rep for producing WR's. It kinda helps recruiting when you can say sure we put Sammy Watkins, DeAndre Hopkins and Mike Williams in the league. But it helps even more when you can say we put Tyler Grisham (3 yr scout I believe), Adam Humpries and Hunter Renfrow in the league. We take good and make them great. We take marginal, that no one sees anything in and make them pros.
We can say that with DL too. We say we put a good amount of DB's in the league. We used to produce linebackers like that. But, what can we claim for RB's? Spiller, ETN, Ellington. OL, almost no one. TE about the same.
There's a reason Georgia and Bama pull 2 top 10 backs every year. They are features and have a history of either physically destroying them (UGA does this better than anybody) or sending them to the league. We don't and it's going to take a couple ETN type guys in a row to change the perception. Dabo did this with WR's. He made people know that every year, no matter who lined up at WR, they were going to be well coached, beat their guy, make highlight reels and move on the the league. CJ can do this with RB's and Austin with our OL. Hopefully Richardson can do the same at TE.
