Fine piece, as always, Ryan.

(?). Does Capehart have any eligibility remaining?

Mucho gracias!

Yikes. Safety play was bad. Young talent and better coaching will improve this area. Barnes was in a slump this year.

But I've been hearing for weeks that Barnes

is just as good, if not better, than Makuba because he had the same number of tackles.

Barnes was pushing him out last season but something broke there this year. Not sure if he was somewhat injured or just simply didn’t have the same focus, but he was noticeably bad this year with bad angles and missed tackles. Makuba for sure had a better year. Venables lost a step post injury as well. Overall, Conn didn’t earn his paycheck this year.

It also read like Mr Kantor also said that Wes Goodwin didn't do a very good job with his lack of experience developing the LBs, so I would assume that he wasn't doing very well as a Defensive Coordinator or as a LBs coach. But that usually happens when you put people to doing jobs that they had never done before especially at the level he was ask to them. Poor Wes, he jumped into the water without knowing how deep it was and drown!!!

I always felt Mickens was good and could lay the wood, but didn't realize the gap between him and the others.

Interesting pattern the last few years. You never hear anything about Conn... our co-coordinator. Perhaps some truth to what some of our better players who transferred have said. But it seems to be a distinct pattern of freshman coming in and regressed throughout the years.

Something is amiss as well because the high school star rating hasn't matched their development. You'll always have busts, but we seem to have more than the norm... as well as a problem with offense and defense staying healthy. Hopefully we're cleaning house in several areas.

Regression can come from three areas:
Player doesn’t respond to coaching
Coach is doing a poor job of developing the player
Strength and Conditioning program limits the player’s ability to improve.

None are good and one or all of these may be true.

I love deep-dives into metrics, especially at the end of a full season.

Ryan often seems to do just a brilliant job putting together pools of data into a digestible story like this to pour over through a lunch break.

Really enjoyed this. Go Tigers!
