That’s a lot of salad words Neff

It’s really simple. A NIL cap is imposed for each school and players sign a three year contract with a school. Transfers are not permitted without repayment of some or all of the NIL monies received to the school they are leaving (yes, I know the school does not pay any NIL monies but they are the reason the player is able to earn NIL) and a player has a one year sit out from playing if they leave early. That will fix it quickly.

longer college football, and people in charge need to quit pretending it is. NIL combined with the portal are ruining the sport.

Your plans sounds pretty... USSR.

It's sports. The NFL is the most "communist" organized sport

May 2, 2023, 11:32 AM

A sport is a set of rules. Freedom is a lack of rules. If you want to play a sport, you agree that there is a boundary, and limits to your freedom. It's not the same as living your life under tyranny. It's a game.

badge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I like your plan. It's better than now.

I prefer they way it was before.... but that's never coming back.

Wait, I thought we like free market capitalism? Let the kids go where they can make the most money for their talents.

It's the most out-of-control mess I've ever seen, especially to be part of such a big business. If the NCAA can't, or won't, get it under control, then find a person/organization/whatever to get it under control. Schools should not have to deal with chaos. Young people need to learn that signing a contract means something.

Since neither Coach Brown, nor Neff are in Congress, there is really not much they can do. Now there is action in North Carolina to allow high school athletes to take advantage of NIL and they would join many states that already have that law. NIL is reality in today's world and we all have to accept that and figure out how to live with it.

That is a realization, but it needs rules and regulations like everything else.

ain't ever going to be corked up again. And the REALLY sad thing is how the NCAA still wants to slap people on the wrist for other, mundane things, and yet threw up their hands and ignore the most rampant cheating tool this side of tampering with the Transfer Portal, which is the other major joke right now.

They will put in some rules but it will be too late to still take in the kind of fans ad money they had before because many fans will have lost interest.

They need to act now but like most everything else they won’t act until the money and fans start dying in my opinion. Most schools don’t have the support Clemson has in football & athletics.

When money rules the top 5-10 schools the rest will lose interest as they use them as their mini farm system within So called college athletics. The disparity between them has grown already.

Hopefully, the kids will have guardrails to guide them to success.

I'm not going to go bashing on Neff - he's still new. But talk about saying a whole lot of nothing.

"Guardrails" reminded me of this old SNL skit. Guardrails, strategery, and lockbox!

How could it be possible that people did not see problems associated with NIL and seek to implement some rules and guidelines to govern the process? I think Brown is right--college athletics are no longer amateur. It appears to me that Clemson is handling the NIL problem as well as anyone, but many coaches and alumni just see NIL as a means being able to recruit and pay players in a way that used to be illegal, and that will only get worse unless there is some control over the matter.

Sorry. Cats out the bag. Can’t put it back

All of that would require some type of collective bargaining with players involved or their representation

This entire mess

Could have been resolved at the very beginning if the right leaders were in place. No one can argue that the NCAA has lacked quality leadership for a long time. Hopefully the National government will not be allowed to interfere in this mess. They have even bigger problems with leadership.

I don’t think any avid college sports fan did not see this being a dumb move from the very beginning. Money has a way of F’ing up a lot of things and now college sports will be greatly affected by this truly foolish move. Awarding scholarship to the talented and hard working student athletes was a win - win situation. The NCAA blew it,

There is an old song lyric that clearly defines this mess,

“The Rich get Rich and the Poor gets poorer ..... In the mean time, between time, ain’t we got fun?

I believe the transfer problem will see some needed changes made sooner than later.

In the meantime Go Tigers

Re: This entire mess

Lead or be led - the NCAA dropped this ball many years ago with their lack of leadership and oversight. Now, they’re effectively irrelevant.
