I remember that 2-9 year when Red Parker was coach during my senior year at Clemson and we were 5-6 my sophomore year. Some bad years for sure. Benny Cunningham was a very good player.

Proving the naysayers right. Dabos system just doesn’t work in the pay for play era. Loyalty is worthless. Sadly he didn’t change with it and we get to watch our football team driven into the dirt.

Dabo threatening to leave every time he gets any criticism doesn’t scare anyone any longer. Love the guy but his philosophy of developing players rather than using the portal more and adapting to the NIL have proven disastrous. We just don’t have the same talent level that we used to. I thought the hire of the DC was a good move, but he’s not produced, The hire of Riley has been a complete but. Dabo needs to replace him

Very well summarized. The program is broken. I have no hopes it’s going to be fixed this season. Dabo; adapt and get with the system. Stay where you are and coach for half of what you are being paid, or move on. It’s that simple.

I'm no football coach but I've watched the sport for decades. What I saw were a couple of glaring things:
1) There looked to me like a lot of guys loafing out there. A lot of guys who are supposed to be some of our best players. That wasn't acceptable pre-pay-for-play. In my opinion, it's even more unacceptable not that you are being paid hefty salaries to play football.
2) We have no identity on either side of the ball. I'll cut the defense a little slack on the lack of identity (not the lack of intensity) as we have a new coordinator. The offensive lack of identity is even worse. I have no idea what we are trying to do. And when we find things that appear to be working we routinely abandon them.
This is a professional sport now. I hate it, but it is. We are a sloppy, unprofessional football team however.

I agree with the loafing by players. I watched #23 and he didn’t try to run up and tackle a receiver that caught a pass at first and it was first and 9 when it could be longer. Someone needs to get these players grill and there needs to be accountability.surr

This is well said. I really was mostly behind the coaches up to this point, assuming much of the problem was simply Klubnick being a reincarnation of DJU. But this has become a pattern, and that's coaching rather than athletes.

This is the most spot on article regarding the state of Clemson football that's been written. The team is soft. The coaches are overpaid and underproducing. What a terrible time for the state of Clemson football to show such mediocrity. Dabo will never change. Pride goeth before the fall - his rope has run out.

while Dabo doesn't like NIL he sure likes his $1M a game salary...a true champion coach knows its time and would renegotiate his buy out...Sweeney could be that man... let's see if he'll take the high road...

Hate to say it, but I think we’re feeling the effect of NIL. Think about it. Before NIL, the only payday you got was if you got drafted in the NFL and to get to the NFL you had to player butt off. Now, most, if not all your starters are getting pretty fat checks whether they produce or not. The coaches leave a lot to be desired but they’re not missing tackles, playing with the lack of intensity, dropping balls, missing receivers or fumbling the ball away.

OSU, Oregon, everybody has players getting NIL. So why is it just our guys who don’t give a rats fuzzy rump? Just doesn’t make sense. you can make an argument that even though they’re paid and probably not as invested in the outcome of the game, their talent level may be better than ours. That being said, I don’t think anybody thinks Arch Manning is tearing it up.

David, you couldn't have said it any better. The last year and a half, players have become lackadaisical and going through the motions (those motions are questionable because they surely didn't come from a true position coach). Ever since $ entered it's way into the pockets of players, the effort and fire these players once had has faded away. But every postgame Dabo still admires their effort and the fact that 'they never quit'. Is he watching a different game than the 1 in front of him? And yes, it's great that SOME players don't quit, but are we playing for a National Championship or an invite to the Humanitarian Bowl? Or better yet the ACC Sportsmanship Award?
Where's the nasty our defense had?(Lawrence, Wilkins, etc) Where's the tempo on offense and ability to wear out opposing defenses? (Chad Morris) Or better yet where is the coaching? These number of bust on defense is inexcusable
I thought the hyp for this team was overboard to begin with, but even last year's team was better than this and it's basically the SAME PLAYERS.
Sweeney is a great coach and motivator, but some of these boys ain't drinking the same kool-aid
As far as our OC & DC, okay Dabo struck out twice. We need a Chad Morris type disciple (You still got Jeff Scott's #) And on the other side, I think we were doing pretty dang good with BV and surely he has a understudy tht can move to clemson for the right $

Maybe you need to ask the tough questions in the media sessions with Dabo because as fans we certainly can’t do that. Someone needs to hold these coaches accountable starting with Dabo Swinney.

Just an opinion, but we have struck out on QBs since Trevor and also made a bad hire with Riley. Also, I know every coach wants the ball to start the second half, but with a defense that is not working why let the other team set the tempo for the game. In the Chad Morris days, it would be 7-0 within the first couple of minutes. Dabo has proven he can build a program, and my guess is that he is thinking tonight what needs to be done. I think we are going to have to start over again and build and it probably begins with the OC and DC along with them bringing in their position coaches. I hate NIL and I hate the transfer portal but that is going to have to be part of the building process.

Pay for play needs to have stipulations, something like a small base salary, with bonuses for winning and significant bonuses for beating a top 25 team…etc. then maybe some of them would actually give a crap

I don't expect to win every game but I inspect to compete. Put simply this year has been an embarrassment. Players and coaches should be wearing bags on their heads. I never thought I would be in this spot but this pushes me towards they thought that players should be employees Which means they can be fired! I don't know if it is Allens scheme or his Coaching or simply having rich spoiled players who are supposed to be good but are getting the field wiped with their butts. And they think they can play like that in the NFL just because somebody told him they could? Yes, Good for Will, he is the only one deserves to wear the paw.

If I count correctly, we are now 77th in the nation in total yards given up and that will not get it. We went to the Playoffs with Wes Goodwin in charge and for some reason, Dabo thought Tom Allen would fix all the problems. How has that worked out? Penn State has not played a good team yet but they have only given up 17 points and and 221 yards a game. Do you think they are missing Coach Allen? Time will tell if we can turn it around.

Thanks - at least Neff sees it …and apparently isn’t happy either - Dabo has about one more “I’ll leave if you ain’t happy winning,”, “look at me” moment and .. Neff may take him up on his whiny threat ..
