That is why vetting and developing relationships is so important.
I was particularly impressed with his comment about the reason he's not being offered by Clemson is because of his grades. He knows that is a problem. Clemson obviously has told him that is a problem. And, he knows it is his responsibility to fix them.
Many, many years ago I was an assistant coach at a juco school. Had to do some recruiting. Many of the kids acted like I was the only one who ever mentioned academics. Most of the parents were shocked when I talked to them about academics more than athletics. I could watch a kid play in person and determine whether or not he was athletically talented enough to play for us. But, when you are Clemson, that is just the first in a long line of boxes that have to be checked off.

Academics among the athletes at FSU in general, and especially in football, are higher than ever. Fisher and Taggart seemed very uninterested in anything other than meeting minimum standards. Norvell regularly talks about the academic standing (all acacemic conference, athletes with higher than 3.0, overall team GPA being higher than 3.0, etc.) Not saying he is at the same level as Dabo. Just saying he understands the importance of academics and he vets students accordingly.

Coach Luke is a better evaluator of OL talent than the TNet resident "experts"....so if Matt Luke wants this kid, great. He has really quick feet and good hands, btw.

If he is smart and takes the steps Dabo demands, he will improve his life. Getting his grades together will help him a lot more than just getting an offer today. My brother was faced with the same dilemma his junior year (long ago), and now he is a judge. Dabo does seek to improve their lives even when it seems harsh.
