Don't count on a youthful Dabo Swinney leaving Clemson anytime soon
The video from the day in 2008 that Dabo Swinney was announced as Clemson’s head coach shows a much younger man with a set jaw and a determination to make himself a success with the Tigers. Swinney hasn’t changed a lot, his youthful face belying his 51 years, and the biggest changes that we’ve seen have centered on Clemson’s success on the field. Full Story » |

I personally don't believe that!!! Dabo will find a way to win regardless of the NCAA continued attempts to ruin college FB!!!!

I have said for years...I see no reason he will ever coach a college team

other than Clemson. This Bama thing is way overblown. He’s Clemson. His kids are full orange blooded Clemson. He doesn’t need to go to Bama to win. And his program is SIGNIFICANTLY different from Saban’s. He would have to recreate a winning culture to a different em winning culture. Why? It’s a dumb fear.
I can’t see him going anywhere unless the rule change sours him to college football, at which point I would guess he leaves the sport entirely. Why go to the NFL?
It will be interesting to see.

If he leaves, and I don't think he will -- he is foremost a competitor and Saturday afternoons are his juice -- it is more likely to run a major American corporation, maybe even a Fortune 500 company. He is entirely capable of that.

Saban has eight more years on his contract. No one is going to be replacing him any time soon.

Only an insane person would want to follow a legend and Dabo is far from insane. The pressure at Bama would be intense. I don't see any way that Dabo would even consider taking that job and especially with his love for Clemson.
Clemson haters will need to continue to hate Clemson for years to come because Dabo isn't going anywhere.

“Bloom where you are planted.” Dabo was planted and has bloomed at Clemson, not Alabama. He loves Clemson. He’ll be at Clemson until he retires.

I don't see him going anywhere else in college but he has always been honest in saying essentially "never say never." I do agree that NIL and the Portal will drastically change the sport so maybe he will get fed up and do something different. As some of you may have heard discussed on Mark Packer in the last week or so, Dabo and some (few probably) others operate on a very simple value system and culture - "It's Not About You." Recruiting players and coaches that believe this I think reduces the impact of both NIL and the Portal. We've seen that to be the case in the early portal years so we'll see how NIL plays out too I guess. Imagine if more of us took that approach to life rather than "It's All About ME!" We can learn a lot from Dabo that has nothing to do with football! Happy Fathers Day to all Dad's out there.

possible, and then do what has very seldom, if ever been done, turn it over to their sons.
There have been a few who tried to do this, but lack of success near the end of their tenure soured the school on that line of succession. (Granny and Skip Holtz come to mind.)

I think Dabo will coach at Clemson as long as he wants and his next job will be athletic director. Clemson’s athletic director.
Dabo will adjust to the current changes. Many more radical changes, however, and all bets are off. If the people of color and the radical feminist and leftist members of the media that infect everything with their political agenda continue to see college athletes as slaves being exploited, if these irrational forces get their way and athletes start getting paid a salary, which will lead to unions and of course athletes being considered employees and taxation, that could easily be the proverbial straw that breaks the camel’s back and cause Dabo to walk away.
He wouldn’t want to deal with that as a coach or athletic director. He would simply move on to something else. I hope that day never comes because it would be the end of college athletics. But then the revolutionaries on the left always take things too far and the Revolution always eats its own! So I am not confident in the future.

Dabo could win after Saban
Jun 20, 2021, 12:45 PM

|
I don't think Dabo coaches anywhere but Clemson.
I also don't think Dabo coaches into his 70's; he just doesn't seem like a work-to-death kind of guy.
But while I get the arguments that it would be near-impossible to follow Saban at Alabama, I do think Coach Swinney would have success there. I think he'd be happy, too. I'm not sure who ELSE could follow Saban at Alabama & have a similar level of success, but I'm curious if only for the chance to see---Tom Brady winning a Super Bowl after leaving the Pats in his 40's, for example, and Coach Swinney has been elite-level successful in every place he's worked (& it hasn't even always been football).
Bottom line, Coach Swinney isn't leaving Clemson. He'll be a living legend long enough to savor it like no other coach here before.

Dabo will end up head coach at his alma mater, Alabama. But it will be after whoever follows Saban and fails. Coaching at your alma mater is a strong magnet for coaches. At some point, we will get an alum. as coach. We have too many good ones now in the pipeline or the NFL. Renfrow comes to mind as well as others.

Absolutely amazing what Dabo has been able to do so far. I will have to honestly add an * to the wins in a decade because now that teams play 12 games a year plus conference championship games, bowl and playoff games, there are many more games than say back in the 1980's for example. Still a great accomplishment to be able to have that many wins.

Dabo might leave to be a minister if God calls him to do it in a different way.
Otherwise if healthy I believe he will stay at Clemson.
I hope Brent Venable stays too!!! He’s an incredible Defensive coordinator!!

Do you not think that Dabo is already a minister? Where today can you get the word to Young People that are too busy and have no desire to attend church. Dabo changes people. Makes men out of boys. He is so much more than just a great coach. More should be said about that. Sadly though there are many people out there that hate that aspect of him.

Oh yes I do but if he was called to do it through a church or some other way I believe he would answer the call.
No doubt he ministers & disciples as a coach.
