Oh man, it's a good time to be a Tiger.

The cult of Dabo.

Dabo is incredibly stubborn and has to be beaten over the head with a hammer to make even minor changes.

This is a major change in recruiting philosophy and it took years for Dabo to make it.

Get back to me when he finally starts using the transfer portal, which he will have to do eventually whether he wants to or not.

You're a lowcountry idiot. It wasn't necessary for Coach to change his official visit philosophy until now. Other than offensive line name 1 position we should've hit the portal for? They searched the portal for O-line this year and didn't get their targets. Should they get in touch with the starting right guard for the Charlotte 49ers and get him to transfer just because he starts for them? Yeah go ahead and take someone that's no better than your current roster. O-line is the one position that quality players are staying put at their current school.

Clemson doesn't care about basketball....as evidenced by Brown-L getting 14 years.

Everybody that isn't a Clemson fan, or a part of Clemson in some way, they have wanted Dabo to fail since he was named Interim HC, it got even worse once he was named HC. They talked so much against Dabo, that it would be embarrassing for them to admit that they were wrong about Dabo, and bc men these days refuse to man up when they're wrong, the hate for Dabo will continue. Continued success by Dabo will soon, or later weaken their stance against Dabo. Nobody beats a winning horse for ever bc, something, or someone will step up and stop it, and it's usually the ones that were beating the horse at the beginning!!!

the pure t idiots on this board know no bounds

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have admitted numerous times I was wrong about Dabo.

Jun 12, 2022, 1:59 PM [ in reply to Re: More bad news for ]

But if we’re gonna be honest let’s be honest. Everyone reasonable and rational thought hiring Dabo was a joke. No serious football program would do what Clemson did. Because at the time we were not a serious football program. The Administration was not interested in having a serious football program. Only after he became successful and the fans started showing support did the administration get behind Dabo.

As far as people saying I knew he was going to be great from the beginning. BS. You supported him because you blindly support Clemson, the administration and Clemson coaches.

But Clemson got lucky and caught lightning in a bottle twice by hiring a position coach as head coach. First with Danny Ford then with Dabo. And anyone that doesn’t admit that we got lucky and this was surprising is lying. So in that respect we pretty much all were wrong and I’m happy to be wrong. I love Dabo I’m glad he’s our coach I love and appreciate what he has done. It doesn’t change the fact that the man is stubborn and college football is radically changing and the jury is out on whether Dabo can adapt and change with it. I hope what he’s doing will continue to work but only time will tell.

The problem is you people are fanatics that no matter how much someone says they support Dabo that’s not good enough. You can’t question or have even rational reasonable conversations. The only thing acceptable around here is jumping up and down screaming like little children or behaving like coked up parents cheering for their kid at a Little League game.

Other than coot trolls, exactly who do you think is disappointed that Dabo made changes to get our recruiting back up to the standard he set the last few years? Also wondering why you are so unhappy that you can’t simply enjoy the success we are seeing on the trail without trying to pick a fight with those not in your group circle?

Exactly Judge.

There was also the crowd that said Dabo didn't need to change anything. I mentioned several times a while back that Dabo was 100% right about his philosophy....but that he was aware slight changes were needed and those changes were coming. You always got to adopt to the landscape to optimize opportunity...all the great CEOs do it. Glad to see the changes have yielded positive results. I expect a few more tweaks over the next year.....

Jun 10, 2022, 1:41 PM

Go read what you wrote. Do you hear yourself?

You said he was 100% right but minor changes were needed.

Well if changes are needed then he’s not 100% right and this isn’t a minor change this is a radical change in recruiting philosophy.

And someone else said that people don’t pay attention to the evidence that dabbo can change. Double is the most stubborn coach in college football and he has to get beaten over the head for years before he does make a change.

We still aren’t using the transfer portal when other programs that are out recruiting us every year like Alabama, Georgia, Ohio state, are using the portal in addition to out recruiting us.

And almost every year we’re under 85 scholarship players. And that’s after giving walk-ons a scholarship or a scholarship to the kids of coaches.

You think everything is all or nothing black or white there’s no in between there’s no room for nuance there’s no room for criticism. You’re either great or you suck. That’s not how life works. Every coach can improve there’s room for criticism and Clemson is far from perfect so is Dabo. And what I wrote is actually 100% accurate.

LOW…I said 100% right in “philosophy”. You can have a general philosophy……and be correct in your beliefs… but still need to improve your technique in achieving it and your overall goals. I’ve always advocated for him to evolve…and to his credit, he has.

I’ve never said he was 100% right…… No one is 100% right. You misread and misinterpreted what I said. We probably agree on most of this. I would like for him to use the portal the way Saban does; but agree the vast majority of the roster should be from high-end high school kids

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-20yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You’re still getting it wrong.

Jun 12, 2022, 2:06 PM

What he changed was his recruiting philosophy. That’s a radical change. He is completely changing how we recruit kids. Good Lord you people are blind.

And I really don’t care what he does as long as it’s successful. I do care about what he does not do that he should be such as using the portal. And people can keep defending that all they want but we’re the only ones not doing it and we need depth at certain positions and we never have a full scholarship count and we are having more turnover than in the past. That is not sustainable.

Don’t understand how fewer high school athletes are getting scholarships due to the portal. It seems to be a zero sum game to me.

If a player transfers, yes, it takes a scholarship from the roster of the school he transfers to but it opens up a scholarship at the school he transfers from, right?

Am I missing something?

Re: TNET: Change in philosophy gives Tigers recruiting momentum

Fewer high school athletes are getting power 5 scholarships because power 5 schools are recruiting players from lower levels.

Re: TNET: Change in philosophy gives Tigers recruiting momentum

Jun 11, 2022, 8:24 PM

Maybe but a similar number will end up at a lower lever. I think it is a wash

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It’s a wash in terms of total numbers.

Jun 12, 2022, 2:24 PM

But fewer kids out of high school are getting an opportunity at the bigger programs and power five schools.

This has actually been happening in basketball for a long time and no one cared. I’ll give you a perfect example, Seth Curry. He wasn’t recruited heavily coming out of high school and went to Liberty. But after being fantastic his freshman year he transferred to Duke.

Now that we have the portal a kid that didn’t get heavily recruited out of high school or that was maybe overlooked because of an injury or maybe a kid that simply went to a program and decided that’s not where he wanted to be will now have a chance to go to a bigger program if he played well. Sometimes a kid just doesn’t get recruited because he was at a small school or because he was a late bloomer. That kid will go to a lower level power five program or maybe to a school like Appalachian State but suddenly start performing at an unexpected level and because of the portal now transfer to a school like Georgia or Alabama. It won’t be Clemson because we’re not looking that direction. But what happens is that kid now leaves that lower level school based on whatever definition you care to make and go to a bigger program which tajes a scholarship that would’ve gone to a kid coming out of high school.

So yes if there are 100 college programs and each program only has 85 scholarships those numbers don’t change. But if the top 20 programs are getting some of their recruits from the lower 80 the number of high school kids getting a scholarship to a top 20 program does go down. That’s less opportunities for kids to go to a top 20 program straight out of high school.

Honestly what it does is make college football a true minor-league system for the NFL.

People Always loved to say that college football was a minor-league system. No it was not. You used to go from peewee football to JV to varsity to college to the NFL. There has always been a natural progression because that’s how humans develop.

But now you can go to a lower level college then transfer to a higher level college or if you’re not playing well at a higher level college go down to a lower level college. The transfer portal has literally made college football a minor-league system like with baseball.
