Ticket selling on Tnet

Aug 29, 2017, 6:21 PM

I am hoping to make a few games this season. Haven't made a home game since 2014. I'm surprised by the difference in prices on Tnet vs StubHub. There are exceptions, but the tix for sale here are markedly higher than stubhub for same lot/section. Why is this? Stubhub takes 10% so it would seem that they would be priced higher than a fee free market. Are folks posting here just sticking it to fellow Tigers?

When you select your tickets on StubHub and click on "check out", you'll find some fees that increase the total price by around 10%. For a long time StubHub did not add fees, but now they're back.

T-Net sellers aren't without issues, though. You have to be careful that the location of the tickets isn't mis-stated.... like the 50 yard line instead of the 40 yard line.

I have bought several parking passes on Stubhub. Parking passes are a separate event form the game.

The best part is, if you don't like the price they're asking, you don't have to buy it

Re: Ticket selling on Tnet

I think it's possible some people post on here and don't pay any attention to stubhub to determine prices since there are fees for the buyers and the sellers. They set prices purely based on what other tnetters are asking. I have tickets for sale in both places, but my prices are higher on stubhub to make up for the fees they collect. I personally set my prices based on combined market value of both places.

I'm sure everyone has their own method though. Tickets are expensive and going up every year with how great we're playing.

I will say I have had success in the last 2 years purchasing tickets the day of the game and have made out really well, but I expect some of the big games this year to be much like the FSU game 2 years ago - lots of people looking for tickets, not many selling them. I've always gotten lucky with availability and purchase price, but I know plenty of people who couldn't find anything or ended up with fake tickets. I didn't want to risk it this year and bought season tickets instead.

Everyone tried this line of thinking for the Natty and it did not work out. This is coming from someone that was there and experienced it first hand.

Re: Ticket selling on Tnet

Oh yea, that idea never would have worked for the natty! Those tickets only got higher the day of the game, I was shocked by the prices. I got lucky and had a friend with extras from IPTAY for that. I've never attempted it for any away game.

I was only talking about home games. I did it for Notre Dame - $50 for lower deck, and FSU - $140 for lower deck 2 years ago, and Louisville - $100 for 7th row in the upper deck on the 40, and Pitt - $60 for 3 rows from the field on the 40 behind the Clemson bench last year. Overpaid for that one, but it was fun to literally feel like you were on the bench for a game. I usually leave my husband at the tailgate and try to negotiate with men. I've had much better success than any of my male friends attempting the same thing.

you gotta pay their IPTAY donation along with tix price.***

Clarification on the original question

Aug 30, 2017, 10:00 AM

Thanks for the folks that have replied to clarify my topic: I am not complaining about the price of tickets, I am trying to understand the disparity between two marketplaces. To illustrate I'm providing the following examples. Auburn tix in section UG -Stubhub $290 & $295: Tnet $300; Section UJ- Stubhub $215, $265, $271 -Tnet $275. Section D-Stubhub $320, $334, $335 Tnet $425. Yes you can purchase parking passes on Stubhub, the disparity exists there as well: Jersey Meadows -Stubhub $249, $249, $300 Tnet $300, $275. Lot 3A Stubhub $197,$197,$200 Tnet $300

So my refined question is this Are Tnet Sellers a) ignorant of the market and innocently charging higher than market prices b) just another ticket broker who believes that they can game a premium from this board because we are fan centric and folks believe that they are buying from another fan, or c) something else?

I am not trying to stir the pudding, I'm trying to get clarity.

Re: Clarification on the original question

Aug 30, 2017, 11:42 AM

I've bought and sold on both, and here's my opinion.

First off, that lot 3A pass on Stubhub priced at $197 is actually $245 when you add the fees charged at checkout. (you can change the setting so that you see the fees in the prices under "filter", if you prefer).

Now, the Tnet price is $300, but in my experience, most people will try to negotiate and you rarely end up with your asking price. If I price at $300, I'll still usually get $225-$250 in the end, which puts it more in the range of the stubhub prices.

Not everyone cares, and will list for whatever they think they are worth. Also, not everyone is willing to negotiate, but many will come down some off their asking price as long as you don't low-ball them.

Why is that? I assume that all of the examples I gave in the second post originally belonged to season ticket holders, therefore would have that cost built in. Tickets in the same section have the same IPTAY donation guidelines, right? All tickets being sold are certainly above face value. Why would tickets on Tnet have the IPTAY donation built in but tickets on StubHub not?

By the time you add up all the cost for season tickets ( IPTAY, Seat Equity, parking pass ) that $65 ticket is actually costing more like $100 if not more. It's just the true economic cost for us season ticket holders. Go Tigers

Why would tickets on Tnet have the IPTAY donation built in but tickets on StubHub not? Are you saying that someone could have originally purchased these seats in these sections without being an IPTAY donor?

No,I would assume anyone selling tickets went through IPTAY in some fashion. Keep in mind their are a good many folks that purchase through corporations or as business owners; some don't care if they sell a ticket a face value and lose money. Just speaking to my situation as a season ticket holder, with two daughters currently in college, if I were to sell my 5 tickets at face value I am losing money. Just depends on the situation of the ticket holder. God luck on getting your tickets secured and Go Tigers and Go NC State.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

but you aren't losing money

Aug 30, 2017, 11:42 AM

you are donating to the university
you are adding to your priority points
you are keeping your seats for the future
you are getting prime parking

I'd buy that argument if and only if you charged an equal IPTAY surcharge per game, there are 7 home games this year.

say you donated at the mcfadden level of $6000 and purchased all 10 season tickets. YOu earn the 40 priority points, not the person purchasing your 1 game tix. You keep the reserved parking spot, not the person purchasing your 1 game tix. You keep the area parking spot, not the person purchasing your 1 game tix.

with 7 home games, each game is $857 of your $6000 donation, that is $85 per ticket. so if you add on $85 per ticket regardless of opponent, that is fair. knowing you will never get $125 for Kent State, or $145 for WF, you double and triple down on a big game like Auburn. This takes an $80 face value tix, to $250 or $335. And again, that is you keeping ALL of the benefits of the donation, it's not like you are tossing in the parking pass for free or keeping me as priority to purchase next year, or even throwing in the fancy sticker.

Re: but you aren't losing money

I get it and I don't plan to sell any of my tickets. I was simply trying to help the original poster understand why there is so much variance in ticket prices. I rarely post and mostly just read the board everyday, it's so easy to be misunderstood behind a keyboard so I will just go back to reading.

Enjoy the Game and Go Tigers

Yep you are correct. They just add another premium for the 30 years of donations and wasted tickets from the Hatfield/West/Bowden years when you could pick up a ticket off the ground and enter the game. Go Tigers!!
