Thoughts on next years lineup

Totally hypothetical here
C - Jarrell 1B - Gaffney 2B/SS/3B - purify/Lichtenberger/Someone (Castellani, this high school kid, or a transfer) LF - Tait Reynolds (early enrollee??) CF - Ryan Wideman (if we get him) RF - Wentworth DH - Priest
SP1 - Knaak SP2 - Moehler SP3 - Bell SP4 - ??? (A freshman)
Closer 1 - D2 transfer Closer 2 - (going on a BIG limb here) Leguernic
Will need at least 9 healthy (key word) pen arms.
What are your thoughts?

Good assessment for now. But it tells me Coach needs to hit the portal hard for the next three weeks.

If Gillen was not a senior, I was thinking he may be a closer for us. Moehler will eventually be a weekend starter, but he may not be available earlier in the year depending on his progression coming back from surgery. I think Brendan Bennett will also slot in thee somewhere potentially.

1B- Crighton, he'll be in the line-up McGovern will play. What and when? Starter? High leverage middle relief would be my guess.
Transfer we brought in from uga in HS, number 2 catcher but he might want to pitch so EB probably sticks with JJ.
Priest- he'd have 2 weeks to prove he can hit 350. If not, he's riding the pine.

Priest will never be a 350 hitter, I would be happy with him at 300 and 15 HR.

Honestly, Priest still had an OBP over .400 despite batting .240. If he’s even hitting about .270 or so, he’ll probably be getting on base a little under half of his at bats

His BABIP was really low also, if he can just make contact more often and limit the strikeouts, he could easily hit 0.300. If you change five in-play outs to hits (about one or two extra hits per month), he's already at a 0.265 average. Gotta work on pitch selection in the offseason to help drive the ball, but the numbers show he might just be unlucky.
I think it was Casas on the Red Sox who stated that just one hit per week in the MLB (about 26 hits) can change a batting average by 40 points. The difference between a 0.300 hitter and a 0.260 hitter is partially just luck and opposing defense talent.

Have you heard anything about the kid coming in from Hartsville. Jackson Moore. There are people there who think he was better than Cam coming out of high school. That might not translate to being good in college but if he is then we will know because he will start day 1.

Crighton will be somewhere in the lineup, and I think McGovern will be a closer

I think Crighton ends up in RF or LF honestly, he has the best current corner outfield defense, and also the most experience. Bakich limits the amount of playing time freshman get already, so I don't think Tait would be at the level to start right off the bat, even if he did enroll early. 3B is Clavon's spot to lose right now, he's the most proven player on the current roster at 3rd, although I'd like to see Castellani get starts as well (maybe a platoon or have one of them take reps in the OF), the better bat has priority.
Personally, barring a Wideman transfer, Wentworth is the best option in CF for now in my opinion, he's got good speed and a cannon for an arm which should play nicely in center. LF should be a battle between the odd man out of 2B/3B/SS and McCladdie, with Crighton in RF.
I wouldn't be shocked if LeGuernic gets the midweek spot to start and Gillen slots in as the setup guy or second closer. I also think (depending on the offseason) that McGovern gets the Saturday starting role unless he stinks it up or gets outplayed by Moehler or Bell. He hasn't done great starting, but has been incredible in long relief, so he might be the primary innings guy if Bakich wants to go with a bullpen game on the weekends.
I agree with the bullpen arms, you can never have too many, as shown clearly last year. Some MLB writer came up with an acronym TINSTAAPP (there is no such thing as a pitching prospect) basically describing that you can never rely too heavily on unproven young arms, and that the focus needs to be on pitchers with notable, definite experience.

I’m not counting out any of the redshirt Fr either. None got a chance but there are some good players. I’d watch Castellani (3B), Austin Jacobs(SS), and Owen Anchors (OF/1B) to be in the mix.
As far as pitching goes Moehler when he returns, probably late March, will push for a starting role late in season. Bennett (LHP) will be a factor too and there are a couple more that throws strikes but not super velo that will be a good mix out of the bullpen.

When Moehler returns, it’ll probably take him a month or a month and a half to be a full time starter. I listened to Bakich talking a few months ago about how he’ll give any pitcher returning from injury a midweek start, and let them pitch 1 inning. The next week would be a leash of 2 innings, and so on and so forth

I'm still scratching my head to how the boys won 45 games with the following stats:
1. 74th in ERA 2. 161st in batting average 3. 57th in runs scored 4. 73rd in home runs 5. 55th in on base percentage 6. 16th in strength of schedule
The bullpen will have a ton of experience with Knaak and Titsworth. Really hope the young studs develop fast.

Yes. Absolutely. A bit tired of only having pitch to contact pitchers... that's where you get a coastal or nc st, west va beat you up.

My thoughts, as of today:
LF Crighton CF Wideman (assuming he doesn’t get drafted) RF Wentworth 3B Clavon SS Lichtenberger 2B Purify 1B Gaffney C Jarrell DH Priest
McCladdie, Fultz (incoming frosh), and Castellani first off the bench. I think Kilby is drafted too highly to step foot on campus, unfortunately.
SP1: Knaak SP2: Titsworth SP3: Bell SP4: Transfer option or Moehler when he returns in April
Key bullpen arms: McGovern, Allen, Veasey, Simmerson, Leguernic (I think he takes a big step in 2026), Kissenberth (when he returns), & Gillen.
The biggest hinge piece here is Wideman. He was on campus yesterday, hope he doesn’t get drafted too highly. Kilby is the other big swing piece. If we can get him on campus, that would be a huge, huge bat at a position of need. I still think we need one more OF (if Wideman is drafted) and one more pitcher, ideally a guy who can start if necessary.

Yeah. Good discussion all around. The only thing from this line-up, 5 of the 9 players have to drastically improve or we'll be a 45 win team with regional host as our ceiling.

I can almost guarantee Wideman is not going to finish school. Projected as early as 2nd round but no later than 4th. He ain’t showing up on a campus in August

Titsworth is back next year right? He was a true sophomore last season so he has to come back 1 more year or transfer? If he comes back the rotation will be solid.

If he doesn’t come back, it’s because someone beat him out for a rotation spot. But he should be back
