Real information about conference realignment.

I just watched an hour long live interview with the Chairman of the Board of Trustees for FSU. I'll put a link at the bottom if you want to watch it. Here is a brief synopsis.
1. He didn't drop any bombshells. He didn't say when or where FSU was going to end up.
2. He made it very clear that the current situation is not acceptable. He made it very clear that FSU was working extremely hard to remedy the financial deficit ACC schools are in. He also made it very clear that "unequal revenue distribution" would not even come close to fixing the deficit.
3. He also made it very clear that FSU "has a good understanding" of the GOR. When asked to explain what that meant he said the the GOR was not a major obstacle and would not be the deciding factor in whatever decision FSU made.
4. He said that FSU started working the day that UCLA and USC announced they were heading to B1G. "It ruined my July 4th vacation. I spent the whole time on the phone for the entire vacation."
5. He said that geography would be considered but made it very clear that the the decision would be a financial decision.
There was no doubt in my mind that he has been talking with his peers at other ACC schools. Talked about this isn't just an FSU problem but a problem for the entire conference. He also convinced me that FSU will not be in the ACC through 2036. He gave no timeline, but I got the impression FSU would be leaving sooner rather than later (not tomorrow, not next week, but not 10 years from now either).
A lot of people listening to the interview were posting he was implying that FSU would be heading to B1G. I'm not that certain. To me he made it very clear that FSU was going where it made the most financial sense. There is no doubt in my mind that FSU, Clemson and probably several other schools will be leaving the ACC.
Personally, I will be shocked if the move is not made before the 2026 season and I will be surprised if it isn't made before the 2025 season.

Hear, Hear, I would be surprised if they were in the ACC at the beginning of the 2024 season bc, dragging their feet while knowing that the ACC is dead in the water from the outside looking in (thanks to John Swofford's unconscionable leadership of the ACC while in his trust) would be a bad judgement call by all FB first schools that are in the ACC after John Swofford killed the ACC for ALL FB first member schools in the ACC!!!

What’s your take on this pac12 mess? I guess the proposal today was way low and not agreed to by members. Why WOULDN'T schools bail at this point if they have offers in hand?

If the TV package is the best they can do, 20 million per year and all streaming, then I expect the PAC 12 to implode and all nine remaining teams to end up in Big 12, B1G, or MWC.

Because they are only testing the waters at this point trying to get a feel where each school will fit in the best before informing another conferences that are interested in joining their conference if they had an invitation....

I think FSU will be gone as soon as possible. The man did not spend his entire vacation on the phone talking about this just to hear himself talk. At least hw is keeping the FSU fans in the loop. CU has said nothing to its fans who foot the bills.

Takeaways were as follow:
1) FSU Chairman appears confident FSU has options - B1G and possibly SEC. 2) He is definitely leveraging for the best FSU financial deal especially when he cited "geography was not an obstacle" and "GOR was not a deterrent." 3. He said FSU's situation is "complicated". My take is he wants the ESPN/SEC if financially viable but will not hesitate to go B1G/Fox for more revenue.
Interesting interview which will be watched by ACC, SEC, B1G and all networks tonight. PAC-12 meetings underway tonight (re: AZ / AZ St) and FSU 3:00pm Board meeting tomorrow will be interesting.

I hope Clemson respects that our fans like their butts in the seats where the players can hear their cheers. I hope we maintain a southeastern travel schedule.
We belong!

I seriously doubt Clemson isn’t making moves as we speak. No matter the outcome, I’m 100% positive we are angling for the best situation for Clemson.

Obviously they didn't use all of them. I submittted this one - How often to you talk with your peer at Clemson?
I am convinced that Clemson and FSU and probably a few others are working very closely together.

Great question Bret. I guess I see it through a different lens. FSU was independent and has a national brand. They're in a better situation than us imo.
We being a charter school in acc, imo is different. As much as we'd love to look through orange lens, we're not a national brand like fsu.

This is only about football and a survey of what recruits say. Yes, our success has been phenomenal and Dabo has put us on the map. That said, then why did the b1g take ucla and not us? Or sec take Oklahoma and not us?
I'm not trying to argue. I'm just presenting a different perspective. Of course we here on tnet think we're gold. But there's probably some ADs at big schools that still don't know where Clemson is.
My main point was in general, if you asked the viewers they'd know ND and they'd know fsu... mainly because of the history.

From everything I've read over the last few years, Clemson's national brand is high--TV ratings, etc. I wish I could find the other articles. I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

Can't the ACC schools ALL leave the ACC and form the ECC (Eadt Coast Conference) and negotiate a deal with E$PN or FOX for same $$$ as the $EC and B1G?

my belief that one team leaving the conference will negate the GoR for those who remain. It seems like it's agreeing to purchase a car, paying for it and getting all the paperwork done the seller removes one of the wheels.
FSU was a part of the car when Clemson bought it so it seems only logical to believe that Clemson is ready to make a move too. My worst assumption is that our BOT may not share my desire to abandon this sinking ship.
I am glad FSU is playing hardball with the conference. It's about time somebody stood up and let tobacco road know that they ain't all that!

First, thanks for another valuable contribution to this board.
That the AD said the GOR was no obstacle was, imo, a huge statement. A number of you all here have put a great deal more time than I have in trying to understand GOR and then explain it to us. I have always understood GOR to be the sticking point.
Whatever allows your AD to say its not an impediment indicates something strong that likely applies to its as well. I assume it's a combination of things, but it seems we are all going to find out soon enough.
I will add that though I've never really been a fan of the ACC, like ourlittle brother in Columbia is for SEC, since we have been ACC since it's creation I find it feels a little odd to be committed to leaving.

I think it's all about the Benjamin's in order to keep up with the Jone's. Otherwise Clemson would happily remain in the ACC with all things being equal.

I could be way wrong on this but I can't help but believe that Clemson and FSU aren't trying to sell a package deal to someone. They are the crown jewels in ACC football and it would seem their leverage is increased by working somewhat together rather than independently.
It certainly doesn't have to stay this way but I would think it might be a good start to negotiations to see how far it went and then break off if it doesn't deliver the desired result.
