It is the same tape from the LSU and OSU games. He seems incapable of learning or adjusting. Why do you think he will learn now? Was it Einstein who said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result?

We lost to LSU because they were unstoppable
We lost to ND because we couldn't stop them or run block.
We lost to OSU because they beat the crap out of us. We couldn't block or stop them, and Fields was lights out.
We lost to UGA because the OL was inept and the QB was barely functional. We tried all sorts of quick developing and medium range routes and we tried rolling DJ out, but still one or both of our primary issues rose up. Again, the OL got manhandled and our QB couldn't let go of the ball or tuck and run. If we have average OL play and a confident QB, we win that game with the same playcalls.

If DJ held the ball more than 2-3 seconds, he would be sacked. At that point in the game, he never had enough time to let plays develop. That's why the quick passes.
This is on Caldwell, not Elliott. O-line was not even ready to compete. If you want to blame recruiting talent that doesn't measure up, I guess Elliott would be at least partly to blame. But the last 3 years our O-line play hasn't measured up.

He hired Elliott and Caldwell. Dabo is in charge.
Dabo either didn't see an issue with our offense last year and during spring and preseason practices, or he did and Elliott didn't implement those changes. Either way, our struggles on offense aren't new and they haven't been addressed so far. If anything, they have gotten worse.
If "best is the standard" then why are we still having these issues?

The Clemson football program has been to 6 of 7 playoffs, played in 4 of 7 national championship games, we've won 2 of 7 national titles, and are the 2nd best program in the CFP era.
Sometimes you lose. You can't win every game against top 5 teams, and you certainly can't win every national title. I'd say winning 2 in 7 years is pretty dang good, no?
We are the 2nd most successful team of the CFP era, and we are in the middle of the far and away best run in Clemson history.
Please stop trying so hard to shoot holes in the coaching. You can't do any better than being the best we ever had.
And aren't you the dude who ALWAYS makes excuses for the coaching of our basketball program? You're right - the buck stops with the head coach, but gosh darn man, then you must admit the reason we can't get anything going in basketball. Right?

DJ also didn't recognize WIDE OPEN receivers across the middle and down the field. Lyn J was open twice with green in front of him for miles and he dumped it to the covered receiver. 90% of this is on DJ. He was off, scared, and looked like a deer in headlights all night. Hate to say it.

Sep 7, 2021, 2:44 PM

everything they could possibly need to be successful.
Facilities, coaching staff budget, fan support, and administrative support are the best in the nation.
So yes, given that, I can think of no reason why we shouldn't have the talent or coaching expertise to do better than 2 yards of rushing and 0 offensive touchdowns against Georgia on Saturday.
It's frustrating that we've seen these offensive issues (especially on the offensive line) for a few years but they apparently haven't been addressed. I trust Dabo to fix it, but am curious to know what that looks like aside from telling us in press conferences that it needs to be better.

and he's had it for several years. Other coaches have accomplished at higher levels with less too.
The lack of success in basketball begins and ends with the head coach. Period.
The football program is the 2nd best of the playoff era, and we are far and away in the best football run in Clemson history. The football head coach built it.

So appropriate criticism of Dabo equals jealousy?
Sep 7, 2021, 2:51 PM
|
|
LOL.
He makes over $8 million a year. He deserves every penny of that, as I've stated before. But with that comes criticism, especially since he has gotten to hand-pick his staff and pay them handsomely, and likes to talk about "best is the standard."
The expectations are naturally going to be higher for him, based on the tremendous success we've had the last 5-6 years and the perceived talent level of our players and coaches.
He needs to fix our offensive issues, especially on the offensive line. Whether that means changing his coaching strategy on the offensive side of the ball, altering our recruiting approach, or a combination of both, something needs to change. And I don't think doing what we've been doing is the answer, based on what I've seen in the last few games we've played against elite competition.
What part of this don't you agree with?

I agree with all of your points. When you rise to become an elite program then expectations rise or at least they should on the part of the supporters of the program. As I see it, the criticism is in the context of high expectations which is a service to Clemson not a disservice.

Don't you think every coach and player involved with the offense should be held accountable for our performance against Georgia?

That is just dumb. Tony Elliott was in the box and didn't block all night and neither did our line or running backs. To win against good teams you have to run and pass but our QB is limited so have no running threat.

Elliot’s play calling did not. He decided not to run DJ, whether it’s because DJ can’t run or they’re scared to run him. He called deep passing plays that take time to develop rather than quick hitters to take the pressure off DJ. He is the one that decided every running play needed to be off the left guard.
So yes you’re right the players didn’t execute well, but neither did our offensive coaching staff, including Dabo.

Valley Boy - DJ played like he was handcuffed by play calls and forbidden to run. That’s on TE and DS. We had all summer to get ready.
It was easy as a coach to watch DW4 and TL16 and think those great plays resulted from your play calls and pep talks. With DW4 and TL16, it was their greatness that won those championships. DJ will overcome and get his shot - if not this year then next year. But our success will not be due to play calling.

Did we throw to the backs out in the flats more than twice? Any screen plays, any jet sweeps? Just didn’t see any adjustments to neutralize the Georgia D line. Very disappointing adjustments in my opinion. Hope we fix it and get it rolling.

you can't block. We tried plenty of plays and formations, but the offensive line was clearly overeat he'd.
My concern is we seem to have regressed as a program. When challenged by a physical team, toughness is gone. It feels just like it did before we finally got over that hump versus LSU.
I don't know what the answer is, but I do wonder why some teams are so much physically stronger than us, especially against our OL.

Can you name the 4 plays and explain why they didn't work?
Sep 7, 2021, 2:56 PM
|
|
We tried dozens of plays.
You cannot run ANY offense when your OL is getting completely dominated and are losing at run blocking and pass blocking. Likewise, you can't call any plays when the QB is in a terrible funk, unable to run or throw.
We tried some long routes and NEVER had time. We tried many quick plays (TEs, slants, curls), and we still couldn't. We finally got some rhythm and had a key drop on 3rd down. The biggest gripe I have about playcalling was when we were inside the 5 and didn't at least try a running play or a QB power. That was a headscratcher, but when your starting RBs are getting less than 2 yards a carry, why would you keep running into a brick wall.
I know of no magic plays that work without a functional and executing OL and QB. When plays don't work, its not like it can be written off as bad call.

This is complete insanity. Our play calling has been utrocious for years and has gotten progressivly worse. TE looked like a cat about to get run over by a Mack truck because he had no idea what to do. And then to complain about something someone said on social media. That takes audacity. Personally I could care less what someone says to TE on social media and neither should he. He needs to be coming up with some new plays that new QB can run with that horrid offensive line they have recruited for us. They all need to be held accountable for that performance, from Dabo to the water girls. Losing by 7 was somewhat expected. That performance was not expected by anyone. If Dabo and Co just give this lip service we will lose 2 or 3 more games this season.

Seems DJU may have spent a lot of his prep time on coordinating his outfit/persona for the after-game press conference. The only one to show up in a three-piece suit, lot of jewelry and fedora. And then all the pesonal grooming during his presser.
On Elliott/Swinney, why did they not execute the "next man up play" for a series or two, and let DJU get refocused and/or focused ?
Thanks be to Glory that the D showed up and helped BV earn his $2.5M or we would be talking about a 30-3 loss.
