gun are the easiest to get, and the fastest way these criminals know to commit their crimes. I don't think we should ban guns like rifles and pistols, but the AR's need to be. Also, the penalty for owning an illegal gun should be 20+ years in prison.

Look, I'm all for raising the penalty for people who possess ILLEGAL firearms. But banning certain types of rifles because of how they look is just ridiculous and irresponsible. The left's ultimate goal is to eventually ban all guns. Banning rifles now will make it easier to ban handguns later on. They start with the scary semi auto rifles and then they'll come out and say we need to ban handguns because that's what %99 of gun crimes are committed with. Then what? We've created an even bigger and more lucrative black market. The US will start getting flooded with illegal weapons and all the criminals will be well armed while all the law abiding citizens will be utterly defenseless.

In how many hundred years do you think it would take just to get half the guns in this world. A few hundred years, when it would be best if we arm everyone. The bad guys will always have guns. Take them away from the good guys, and the bad guys rule!!!

The Three Laws of Robotics
A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
A robot may not injure its own kind and defend its own kind unless it is interfering with the first or second rule.

Have a robot shooting up a school. I'm sure there are ways to prevent this, I'm just saying it could be used for bad just as much as it is for good.

Its cool if it can run fast like that. It needs to be tweaked some however. It needs to run like Sammy Watkins and hit like thunder....and bullet proof. Only then will it be truly a finished project.

Dr. Gilbert is leaving Clemson for UF Gainesville, so I'm guessing he's taking this project with him.

This is our problem in Afghanistan
Apr 22, 2014, 5:47 PM
|
|
Cost to make Robot (aka Countermeasure Device): A TON of money
Cost to overcome the countermeasure/cost to find a new procedure to attack: Very little money
Bottom line: We spend millions on trucks that the Taliban spends hundreds to find a way to overcome their defenses. (e.g. An MRAP getting ambushed by a kid throwing a grenade in the turret.) Even if we had these robots, what's protecting against things such as a suicide bomber, an attack on a school bus, a pre - installed bomb, or a drive by at the car/bus circle?
Defenses are only a measure to invest in when you are desperate, but none stand the test of time. Where's the offense?

I don't follow your logic here. The difference in this situation would be a suicide bomber, etc. would destroy a robot rather than human(s). Robots are replaceable, humans are not. And this is an offensive tool against an intruder. I don't understand how you could be more offensive than attacking and subduing the intruder unless you're advocating some Minority Report precognition technology.
